Book excerpt: A companion to the author's earlier book Designing an Older Adult Ministry (Discipleship Resources, 1999), this book will provide new information and outline ways to develop and strengthen ministries by, with, and for older adults that can, and will, enhance the spiritual growth and well-being of people of all ages. The church is beginning to recognize that there are vast numbers of older people in its membership. It is becoming aware of its indebtedness to them for the leadership, support, service, and faith that has made the church of today possible. The church is uniquely positioned to help older adults respond to the challenges of aging; to see the tremendous potentialities in the lives of older adult for making the church and community better; and to assist older people as they experience new meaning and purpose in their later lives. Chapters include "Why Older-Adult Ministries?"; "Understanding the Aging Process"; "Aging and the Spiritual Journey"; "The New Seniors: Boomers?"; "Intentional Ministry by, with, and for Older Adults"; "Organizing for Intentional Ministry in the Local Church"; "Organizing for Intentional Ministry in the Conference"; "Congregational Care Ministry"; "Additional Ideas for Intentional Ministry"; and "Trends in Aging." Appendixes include a "Facts about Aging" quiz, information on creating and using older adult surveys, and suggested resources for further reading and study.

In addition to being beneficial for churches and synagogues, this book has a place in seminary education. Study groups may find especially useful the "Points to Ponder" page concluding each chapter. The questions found on those pages can also stimulate older readers to reflect on their life pilgrimage. If the illustrations sprinkled generously throughout the book motivate readers to adapt ideas or create their own responses to identified needs, then faithful engagement can result.
Book Synopsis Reincorporating Senior Adults in to the Life of a Local Church by : Joe Evans
Download or read book Reincorporating Senior Adults in to the Life of a Local Church written by Joe Evans and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This DMIN research thesis’s problem concerns that some senior adults have grown complacent in their walk with God at Judson Baptist. In response to this problem, the researcher desired to implement a trend of encouraging all senior adults to become fully engaged in serving Christ. This senior adult minister wanted to reincorporate inactive members into the life of the church. As the seniors were encouraged to reactivate their status, their prayer life and faith walk may have improved. The problem was addressed by using a specific plan and understanding its objectives of overcoming apathy and indifference in church life. A sample of three-hundred fifty older adults at Judson Baptist consented to participate in this project. A survey interview collection method was implemented in encouraging seniors to continue growing in Jesus Christ. Prayer and faith may have been rejuvenated in members’ lives. This project study will encourage other senior adult ministers and pastors to reevaluate their age group’s significance in extending God’s kingdom. Hopefully, the research will ignite a flame of interest as to why seniors think as they do, why they act in their unique ways, how they can be encouraged to be mentors to the next generation, and how they can contribute to the growth of the church. All of these answers will benefit ministry to senior adults. This project will help incorporate older adults into the local church to fully implement the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).

Book Synopsis The Mentoring Church by : Phil A. Newton
Download or read book The Mentoring Church written by Phil A. Newton and published by Kregel Publications. This book was released on 2017 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ministry Book of the Year--The Gospel Coalition 2017 Book Awards The critical missing element in Christian mentoring today: the congregation "Bringing up future leaders isn't just the job of the pastor but of the whole congregation. This is an urgently needed book in churches today." --R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Young, emerging leaders of the church, many of whom have gone through leadership training and traditional mentorship programs, still too often find themselves unprepared for the realities of ministry. Many leave the ministry altogether, overwhelmed. Phil Newton reveals a critical gap: single-source mentorship is incomplete. Mentoring must involve the congregation, not just senior pastors, in order to bring forth mature, resilient leaders prepared for all that ministry entails. The solid, practical solutions in The Mentoring Church offer churches of any size both the vision for mentoring future leaders and a workable template to follow. With insightful consideration of theological, historical, and contemporary training models for pastor/church partnerships, Newton is a reliable guide to developing a church culture that equips fully prepared leaders.
