This book was released on 1967 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies of the incompressible fluid motion around a two-dimensional flat plate aligned parallel to the oncoming free stream are thoroughly reviewed and extended. Emphasis is placed on the detailed study of the fluid motion in the neighborhood of the trailing edge. A modified Oseen linearization is used to simplify the Navier-Stokes momentum equations and the stream function equation. These equations are then solved by the Wiener-Hopf technique. The solution of the momentum equations confirms the existence of a singularity at the trailing edge, and the distribution of shear stress on the plate is in agreement with a recent numerical solution. The stream function equation, however, is only formally solved. Finally, an iterative procedure is proposed to solve the viscous fluid motion around an arbitrary two-dimensional finite object. Specifically, the full Navier-Stokes equations are written in the form of inhomogeneous Oseen equations and higher orders of the asymptotic stream function are then determined by solving the inhomogeneous equations with lower order terms substituted in the inhomogeneous part of each of the equations. Green's function is found for the Oseen operator, but no specific example is given in the study. (Author).

Donaldson and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: An approximate method is presented for the estimation of the properties of the incompressible laminar boundary layer on a flat plate in the slip-flow regime using Kármán's momentum method. These results are compared with results for a normal boundary layer at the same Reynolds number to bring out the characteristics of a slip boundary layer. A simple criterion for the importance of slip is presented.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Symmetry Analysis by : Brian J. Cantwell
Download or read book Introduction to Symmetry Analysis written by Brian J. Cantwell and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2002-09-23 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Symmetry analysis based on Lie group theory is the most important method for solving nonlinear problems aside from numerical computation. The method can be used to find the symmetries of almost any system of differential equations and the knowledge of these symmetries can be used to reduce the complexity of physical problems governed by the equations. This is a broad, self-contained, introduction to the basics of symmetry analysis for first and second year graduate students in science, engineering and applied mathematics. Mathematica-based software for finding the Lie point symmetries and Lie-Bäcklund symmetries of differential equations is included on a CD along with more than forty sample notebooks illustrating applications ranging from simple, low order, ordinary differential equations to complex systems of partial differential equations. MathReader 4.0 is included to let the user read the sample notebooks and follow the procedure used to find symmetries.

Book Synopsis Separation of Flow by : Paul K. Chang
Download or read book Separation of Flow written by Paul K. Chang and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interdisciplinary and Advanced Topics in Science and Engineering, Volume 3: Separation of Flow presents the problem of the separation of fluid flow. This book provides information covering the fields of basic physical processes, analyses, and experiments concerning flow separation. Organized into 12 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the flow separation on the body surface as discusses in various classical examples. This text then examines the analytical and experimental results of the laminar boundary layer of steady, two-dimensional flows in the subsonic speed range. Other chapters consider the study of flow separation on the two-dimensional body, flow separation on three-dimensional body shape and particularly on bodies of revolution. This book discusses as well the analytical solutions of the unsteady flow separation. The final chapter deals with the purpose of separation flow control to raise efficiency or to enhance the performance of vehicles and fluid machineries involving various engineering applications. This book is a valuable resource for engineers.
Book Synopsis Laminar Flow Analysis by : David F. Rogers
Download or read book Laminar Flow Analysis written by David F. Rogers and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1992-10-30 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The major thrust of this book is to present a technique of analysis that aids the formulation, understanding, and solution of problems of viscous flow. The intent is to avoid providing a "canned" program to solve a problem, offering instead a way to recognize the underlying physical, mathematical, and modeling concepts inherent in the solutions. The reader must first choose a mathematical model and derive governing equations based on realistic assumptions, or become aware of the limitations and assumptions associated with existing models. An appropriate solution technique is then selected. The solution technique may be either analytical or numerical. Computer-aided analysis algorithms supplement the classical analyses. The book begins by deriving the Navier-Stokes equation for a viscous compressible variable property fluid. The second chapter considers exact solutions of the incompressible hydrodynamic boundary layer equations solved with and without mass transfer at the wall. Forced convection, free convection, and the compressible laminar boundary layer are discussed in the remaining chapters. The text unifies the various topics by tracing a logical progression from simple to complex governing differential equations and boundary conditions. Numerical, parametric, and directed analysis problems are included at the end of each chapter.
