This book was released on 2013-07-20 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to help engineers and scientists better understand contaminated sediment sites and identify and design remedial approaches that are more efficient and effective. Contaminated sediment management is a difficult and costly exercise that is rarely addressed with easily identified and implemented remedies. It is hoped that this book can help identify and implement management approaches that provide an optimal, if not entirely satisfactory, solution to sediment contaminant problems.

Book Synopsis Third Century of Biochemical Oxygen Demand by : Rodger Baird
Download or read book Third Century of Biochemical Oxygen Demand written by Rodger Baird and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most comprehensive summary and literature review of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) on the market! BOD is one of the fundamental concepts in wastewater treatment. Throughout the 1800s and the 1900s, BOD was exhaustively studied and refined, both as a concept and as an analytical procedure. Review all previous BOD work--including why technicians, scientists, plant operators, regulators, and engineers have complained about the BOD test for many years. This book is intended to serve three purposes: first and foremost, is to describe BOD as a test procedure and biological phenomenon; secondly, to describe the place of BOD within the complex of testing that is used to evaluate treatment processes; lastly, is to present the development of BOD and preserve all peer-reviewed literature citations that mark the road to the current test. Written by Rodger B. Baird and Roy-Keith Smith. Mr. Baird is Manager of Laboratories for the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts, where he has worked in laboratory supervision and management for more than 30 years. Dr. Smith has written over 60 published articles and is the author of eight books (one in the 4th edition) on environmental analysis. Chapters detailing sediment oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, and total organic carbon testing and their relationship to BOD testing, as well as extensive coverage of the interferences encountered during oxygen demand testing makes this a must-have reference.

Book Synopsis The formation of patterns in subaqueous sediment by : Kidanemariam, Aman Ghebremichael
Download or read book The formation of patterns in subaqueous sediment written by Kidanemariam, Aman Ghebremichael and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2016-11-14 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the formation of subaqueous patterns by means of high-fidelity numerical simulations which resolve all the relevant scales of the flow and the sediment bed. This is required to provide a space- and time-resolved information on the flow field and the sediment bed. Secondly, detailed analysis of the generated data allows to address the different governing mechanisms involved in the formation of patterns as well as to access the validity of various existing models.
Book Synopsis Sediment and Contaminant Transport in Surface Waters by : Wilbert Lick

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contaminated bottom sediments and their negative impacts on water quality are a major problem in surface waters throughout the United States as well as in many other parts of the world. Even after elimination of the primary contaminant sources, these bottom sediments will be a main source of contaminants for many years to come. In order to determin
Book Synopsis Cohesive Sediments in Open Channels by : Emmanuel Partheniades

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control the impact of cohesive sediments on open channels by managing the effects of silt, clay and other sediments in harbors, estuaries and reservoirs. Cohesive Sediments in Open Channels provides you with a practical framework for understanding how cohesive sediments are transported, deposited and eroded. One of the first books to approach the subject from an engineering's perspective, this book supplies insight into applying hydraulic design as well as understanding the behavior of cohesive sediments in a flow field. - Properties and of the nature and the origin of the interparticle physicochemical forces - The forces between clay particles and the process of flocculation - Processes and dynamics of flocculation and the hydrodynamic behavior of cohesive sediments - Transport processes of sediments by flowing water and related equations are first presented and explained - Deposition and resuspension of beds deposited from suspension from flowing waters - Engineering applications of the hydraulics of cohesive sediments

Book Synopsis Sedimentation in the Rupnarayan River by : Swapan Kumar Maity
Download or read book Sedimentation in the Rupnarayan River written by Swapan Kumar Maity and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-17 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book elucidates sedimentation processes at work in the Rupnarayan River, with particular focus on the environment of sediment deposition under a tidal system. It addresses the various complexities arising from the interactions between riverine and marine processes, as well as the seasonal fluctuations in available and critical shear stress that lead to sedimentation. Logical explanations of the research findings will help readers understand the mechanisms of sedimentation and both the sources and distributional patterns of sediments in estuarine environments. The book offers a valuable guide and faithful companion for all students and researchers working on fluvial geomorphology and sedimentology, as well as engineers, hydrologists, planners and other authorities interested in sedimentation and associated problems.

Book Synopsis Deposition of Fine Sediments in Turbulent Flows by : Emmanuel Partheniades
Download or read book Deposition of Fine Sediments in Turbulent Flows written by Emmanuel Partheniades and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deposition of fine cohesive sediments in a turbulent flow field was studied in a system of a rotating annular channel and ring. The percentage of the total sediment that a given flow can maintain in suspension depends only on the bed shear stress and is independent of the initial sediment concentration. The percentage (C) of the depositable sediment deposited at time t has been found to vary with time according to the law (C = alpha logt + beta), where the coefficient a is independent of the flow conditions and sediment concentration, while the coefficient b is a function of the bed shear stress only. Both a and b depend on the physiochemical properties of the sediment and the water environment. Deposition rates are proportional to the depositable sediment concentration and inversely proportional to time.
