Book Synopsis Il tempo del cuore - Time of the heart by : Giorgio Vecchi
Download or read book Il tempo del cuore - Time of the heart written by Giorgio Vecchi and published by Aletti Editore. This book was released on 2024-03-11 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Giorgio Vecchi è stato, per oltre trentacinque anni, Professore Associato di Lingua Spagnola all'Università di Pavia. Sue poesie sono state premiate in concorsi locali e nazionali. Giorgio Vecchi has been Associate Professor of Spanish Language at the University of Pavia for over thirty-five years. His poems have won prizes in local and national competitions. He is a native of Piacenza by birth and education and has lived in Oltrepò Pavese for many years. In 2021 he published 'Albergo Roma e dintorni', a volume of short stories about Piacenza in the 1950s. A volume of his poems entitled 'I palpiti del tempo' has recently been published. The poems in this collection speak above all of love, of the difficult relationship with the other person, a real or, often, invented companion with whom dialogue is ultimately impossible. The poet seems more interested in the form/music of the verse than in the content, in a direct approach to the reader, who should perceive the text as a virtuous game intending to create a kind of communication with the author.

Book Synopsis Preacher, Sermon and Audience in the Middle Ages by :
Download or read book Preacher, Sermon and Audience in the Middle Ages written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-11-12 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preacher, Sermon and Audience in the Middle Ages presents research by specialists of preaching history and literature. This volume fills some of the lacunae which exists in medieval sermon studies. The topics include: an analysis of how oral and written cultures meet in sermon literature, the function of vernacular sermons, an examination of the usefulness of non-sermon sources such as art in the study of preaching history, sermon genres, the significance of heretical preaching, audience composition and its influence on sermon content, and the use of rhetoric in sermon construction. The study looks at preaching history and literature from a wide geographical and chronological area which includes examples from Anglo-Saxon England to late medieval Italy. While doing so, it outlines the state of sermon studies research and points to new areas of investigation.

Book excerpt: In Il Moro Heywood constructs a presumably imaginary debate about the nature of true happiness between his great-uncle Sir Thomas More and six of More's friends. Heywood's principal intention in composing this dialogue about happiness seems to have been to provide posterity with a loving memorial of one of England's greatest humanists.

Book Synopsis The Story of Leander and Hero, by Joan Roís de Corella by : Joan Rois de Corella

This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joan Roís de Corella is one of the most renowned authors of fifteenth-century Catalan literature. His Story of Leander and Hero uses a well-known Vergilian and Ovidian motif of unremitting love that turns into tragedy. Corella retells the story adding to it a great dose of suspense and pathos and recasts it in the fashion of sentimental prose, a genre famous at the time and a clear precedent of the great narrative genre to flourish during the Renaissance in the Iberian Peninsula and Europe: the novel.

Book Synopsis The Novellino or One Hundred Ancient Tales by : Joseph P. Consoli
Download or read book The Novellino or One Hundred Ancient Tales written by Joseph P. Consoli and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-07-04 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1997. Considered one of the first prose works in Italian and a precursor of the Decameron, this is the first complete translation of the Novellino into English, based on the 1525 editio princeps. While manuscripts vary as to wording and the number of tales, the 1525 first edition follows seven of the eight known manuscripts closely. The text includes a transcription of the 1525 edition, taken from the copy in the Parma Biblioteca Palatina. This transcription has been altered as little as possible, diacriticals are added and capitalization is systematized, but no attempt has been made to modernize the language. Vocabulary notes are provided, as are ample notes to explain the historical and cultural significance of figures and events in the tales. There is one bibliography for the Novellino and another for the explanatory notes.
