Book Synopsis The Structure of Healthy Life Determinants by : Tanji Hoshi
Download or read book The Structure of Healthy Life Determinants written by Tanji Hoshi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-08 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first one to examine the cause and effect of elderly people’s healthy life expectancy, providing models that are easy to understand. The novel point is the success achieved in constructing a single structural model of cause and effect of healthy life expectancy. In the final models of the authors’ studies, it was possible to clearly point out that it is not the case that lifestyle habits including an ideal diet directly provide for healthy life expectancy. This book is made up of published studies based on scientific evidence, using a vast amount of data based on about 8,000 in-home elderly people tracked longitudinally from 3 to 6 years, three times in all including baseline research, in a specific region of Japan. Therefore, health policy makers will be able to use this book as scientific evidence for creating area programs to promote good health that are focused on healthy longevity as the central issue. Academic researchers whose special fields are mainly public health will be able to learn both theory and practice to structurally analyze cause and effect of health factors.

This book was released on 2017-04-27 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the United States, some populations suffer from far greater disparities in health than others. Those disparities are caused not only by fundamental differences in health status across segments of the population, but also because of inequities in factors that impact health status, so-called determinants of health. Only part of an individual's health status depends on his or her behavior and choice; community-wide problems like poverty, unemployment, poor education, inadequate housing, poor public transportation, interpersonal violence, and decaying neighborhoods also contribute to health inequities, as well as the historic and ongoing interplay of structures, policies, and norms that shape lives. When these factors are not optimal in a community, it does not mean they are intractable: such inequities can be mitigated by social policies that can shape health in powerful ways. Communities in Action: Pathways to Health Equity seeks to delineate the causes of and the solutions to health inequities in the United States. This report focuses on what communities can do to promote health equity, what actions are needed by the many and varied stakeholders that are part of communities or support them, as well as the root causes and structural barriers that need to be overcome.
Book Synopsis Family Change and Housing in Post-War Japanese Society by : Misa Izuhara
Download or read book Family Change and Housing in Post-War Japanese Society written by Misa Izuhara and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the experiences of older women in post-war Japanese society through analysis of their family and housing histories. Three broad themes - family relations, welfare systems and housing - were chosen to highlight issues surrounding the changing role and position of women in the family and society. A qualitative approach is used to address a gap in the literature and to illustrate the real-life experiences of women in Japan. Many aspects of the book are comparable, or related, to studies exploring other industrial and East Asian societies and the book thus contributes to international debates surrounding housing policy, the ageing society and the changing nature of the family. It also provides useful insights into and analysis of, Japan’s society and socio-economic system.
Book Synopsis Faces of Aging by : Yoshiko Matsumoto
Download or read book Faces of Aging written by Yoshiko Matsumoto and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2011-03-17 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The indisputable fact of Japan's rapidly aging population has been known for some time. But beyond statistics and implications for the future, we do not know much about the actual aging process. Senior citizens and their varied experiences have, for the most part, been obscured by stereotypes. This fascinating new collection of research on the elderly works to put a human face on aging by considering multiple dimensions of the aging experience in Japan. Faces of Aging foregrounds a spectrum of elder-centered issues—social activity, caregiving, generational bias, suicide, sexuality, and communication with medical professionals, to name a few—from the perspective of those who are living them. The volume's diverse contributors represent the fields of sociology, anthropology, medicine, nursing, gerontology, psychology, film studies, gender studies, communication, and linguistics, offering a diverse selection of qualitative studies of aging to researchers across the social sciences.
Book Synopsis The Gift of Generations by : Akiko Hashimoto
Download or read book The Gift of Generations written by Akiko Hashimoto and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1996-06-13 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern societies today contend with population dynamics that have never before existed. As the number of older people grows, these countries must determine how best to provide for the needs of this population. The constraints are real: fiscal and material resources are finite and must be shared in a way that is perceived as just. As such, societies confront the fundamental question of who gets what, how, and why, and ultimately must reappraise the principles determining why some people are considered more worthy of help than others. This study systematically explores the Japanese and American answers to this fundamental question. This is the only US-Japan comparative work of its kind, utilizing systematically comparable data from both countries. It also draws on interview material that presents the choices, disappointments, and satisfactions of old age in the individual's own words.
Book Synopsis Health and Health Behaviors of Japanese Americans in California by : Ying-Ying Meng
Download or read book Health and Health Behaviors of Japanese Americans in California written by Ying-Ying Meng and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides a close look at the health and health behaviors of the Japanese American population in California. Using data from the California Health Interview Survey (2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2011-2012), this report contributes to the understanding of the health status and health-related characteristics of Japanese Americans. The report examines a number of health indicators for Japanese Americans compared to other Asian ethnic groups in the state (Chinese, Filipino, Korean, Vietnamese, South Asian, and other Asian), as well as other racial/ethnic groups (Latinos, African Americans, Whites, American Indians/Alaska Natives, and other single and multi-ethnic Californians). While Japanese Americans are too often lumped together with other Asian ethnic groups, this report shows that they have unique health concerns and assets relative to other Asian ethnic groups and the general population.
Book Synopsis Japan: Health-, Elderly- and Child- Care in comparison to the German system: based on a case study by : Anja Hellmann
Download or read book Japan: Health-, Elderly- and Child- Care in comparison to the German system: based on a case study written by Anja Hellmann and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2010-04-27 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2009 in the subject Health - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,6, University of Applied Sciences Bremen, language: English, abstract: The development of the Japanese society is characterized by a lot of similarities to Germany. This is why I have chosen the country to compare especially the Health Care System with the German one. Not only the economic achievements are comparable, but first of all the Demographic Change. In 2020 28% of the Japanese population will be over 65 years. In Germany it is prognosticated to be around 21% (Tab.1). Moreover the Japanese Health Care System is known as own of the cheapest of the industrialized countries. This leads to the question of adoption of some parts or ideas from the Japanese system to the German one. In my elaboration I want to describe a case of a family in Japan regarding the family and work situation, the Health Care System in general and additionally the system of taking care of the elderly and the children. My example family has got following parts: The mother is 42 years old, she works as a nurse in an outpatient department of a local government. In addition she has to take care of her parents almost every day. The father is 45 years old, works as an engineer and likes his hobby, which is driving motorbikes. The daughter of them is 7 and their son is 13, both go to school. The grandmother has got dementia, she is 76 years old and lives together with her husband, who is 76 and has got diabetes. They live in the neighborhood of their children and grandchildren. Case 1: Values, culture, roles of the family members. Case 2: Health Care System of Japan in comparison to the German one. What happens after a traffic accident of the father? Case 3: Elderly and Child Care in general and in the case of the accident and depression of the mother.
