Book excerpt: The volume offers an overview of the theories and practices of Italian legal feminism, presenting both the main themes addressed and the main protagonists of Italian feminist legal theory. The book is divided into two parts. The first is dedicated to deepening crucial issues that directly concern women’s knowledge and lives from a feminist perspective, such as the interconnection between law, rights and justice; diversity, difference and equality; sex, sexuality and reproduction; citizenship and borders; deviance, criminal matters and security; and victims, victimology, and vulnerability. Each set of thematic issues is analysed by a current Italian feminist legal scholar, who engages with multiple feminist voices in order to emphasise the need for an interdisciplinary approach to law from a feminist perspective. The second part of the book is devoted to outlining the paths of study, research and practice of specific and renowned Italian legal scholars who have provided the foundation for legal feminism in Italy: Letizia Gianformaggio, Tamar Pitch, Silvia Niccolai, and Lia Cigarini. The book thereby offers, for the first time, a comprehensive account of the traditions and trajectories of Italian legal feminism, thus opening up a dialogue with other feminist approaches to law and justice. The book will appeal to scholars in legal theory, critical and sociolegal studies, sociology, gender studies, and critical criminology.

Book excerpt: The present publication is brought about by the joined researchers efforts to share common concerns and scientific analysis to the global current pandemic Covid-19, which discussions were held abridged during the International Online Congress “Critical Dialogues on Pandemic Perspectives: Global Justice, Rule of Law and Human Rights” comprising professional and theoretical reflections and synergy to promote international academic and scientific exchanging cooperation on the current global pandemic context on reflecting, thinking and scrutinizing government’s, public policies and decision-making process and innovation in the fighting against direct and collateral damages caused by the Covid- 19’s social and institutional impacts, considering transnational implications to the political, economic and the rule of law systems from a Global Justice approach and, locally to human rights’ protection. The Sustainable Development Goals achievements cannot ignore the technological challenges of The Industrial Revolution 4.0, the precariousness of labor relations, the growing of an economic inequality, and a return to extremist nationalism. Yet, the pandemic context, after two years, forces us to think about the ascendancy of intramural violence, since social distance ends up challenging everyone, however, with outstanding, material, and dissimilar conditions since it tends to the social elimination of the socially vulnerable. Despite the needed corporate and public adopted strategies, disenfranchisement and excessive administrative measures have been settled, reframing, and mitigating international relations pulling geopolitical, economic, and technological strings in the multipolar world. For those finding facts, we are invited to discuss the new challenges and outcomes from a pandemic perspective to the Global Justice, Rule of Law, and Human Rights questioning if and how human rights can be ensured and mainstreamed in the taken prevention and recovery measures in democratic societies. The International Congress was organized to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Research Group Culture, Law and Society ((DGP CNPQ UFMA), and was upheld by The Graduate Law Program of the Universidade Federal do Maranhão (PPGDIR/UFMA), together with the Graduate Law Program of the Faculdade de Direito de Vitória (PPGD/FDV), the Chinese Study Center of the Instituto de Relaciones Internacionales of the Universidad Nacional de la Plata, and the Institute for International Legal Studies of the National Research Council of Italy, by each representative, we are pleased to WELCOME you to the Critical Dialogues on Pandemic Perspectives, discussing Human Rights, Democracy and Pandemic Perspectives. Book excerpt: Living on the margins offers a unique insight into the working lives of undocumented (or ‘irregular’) migrants living in London, and their employers. Breaking new ground, this topical book exposes the contradictions in policies, which marginalise and criminalise these migrants, while promoting exploitative labour market policies. However, the book reveals that the migrants can be active agents in shaping their lives within the constraint of status. Taking an inter-disciplinary approach, this fascinating book offers an international context to the research and provides theoretical, policy and empirical analyses. It will appeal to undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers and academics, as well as policy makers, practitioners and interested non-specialists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rights of children are outlined in article 24 of the Charter of fundamental rights of the European Union; the binding catalogue of rights which institutions and member states are bound to respect when applying EU law. Although this article has undoubtedly been taken very seriously since the Charter was adopted in 2000, there are indications that in a number of cases it has not been possible for children in the EU to exercise fully the rights it envisaged. One such case involves migrating Romanian children, and concerns have been expressed that the rights of this group of migrant children have not always been fully taken into account. This book is the result of the two-year project "Children’s rights in Action", funded by the European Union, which focuses on the needs of children migrating from Romania to Italy and Spain in order to identify good practices, reduce their vulnerability and protect their rights. The book presents the impact that limited access to the rights guaranteed by EU law have had on the actual conditions of life for Romanian children in migration across Europe. Although the book shows that the rights enshrined in article 24 of the EU Charter are not yet fully and equally ensured in some EU countries, it also describes the ways in which local communities and civil society actors have often operated to fill the gap and enabled such children to exercise their rights despite legislative and political shortcomings.

This book was released on 2016-03-01 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing from more than two hundred examples representing twenty-two languages of wide genetic and typological variety, the author guides the reader through a broad collection of situations encountered in the analysis and practice of translation. This enterprise gains structure and rigor from the methods and findings of contemporary linguistic theory, while realism and relevance are served by the choice of "naturalistic" examples from published translations. Coverage draws from a variety of genres and text-types (literary works, the Bible, newspaper articles, legal and philosophical writings, for examples), and addresses a thorough selection of structural-functional aspects. These range from discrepancies between source and target languages in sentence construction, to dfiferences between source and target poetic traditions with respect to meter and rhyme.
