Book excerpt: “A passionate, elegiac tale about the excesses of sex, drugs, and rock and roll over a tortured musician’s lifetime” by the O. Henry Award–winning author (Publishers Weekly). Keyboard man Jack Voss spends his evenings in the relative sanctuary of the clubs, playing jazz standards on the piano and occasionally singing some of the songs that made him famous. But when his life of comparative comfort and solitude is rocked by a devastating personal loss, Voss is led back to The Enchanted Pond, the 1974 rock opera that catapulted his band, Vossimilitude, into the stratosphere. The story of an ill-fated love triangle based on the tense relations between Voss, his childhood girlfriend, and Vossimilitude’s dangerous and charismatic bassist, Voss’s masterpiece set him on a path to this day of reckoning. To endure, he must confront the tragic consequences of his self-absorption on the only firm ground left him: the piano. With the sure, unsentimental narrative command of writers like Richard Russo and Jonathan Franzen, John Van Kirk has brought to life in Song for Chance not just a fallen rock god, but—with the help of liner notes, bonus tracks, and the complete Voss discography—the whole sex, drugs, and rock and roll era with an immediacy so recognizable that it feels like yesterday. “Van Kirk raises compelling if age-old questions about the tension between art and life, and about our responsibilities to those we love.” —The New York Times “A generously rendered account of a soul’s journey through an unexpected life . . . The cadenced rhythms of Song for Chance will stay with you long after you’ve finished the book.” —Richard Currey, author of Lost Highway

The Sikaran mercenaries are expert martial artists and members of a Sikaran Brotherhood of the Sword, the "Isithan." Often misunderstanding the humans, Marayshan, Nava and Avernyi have many adventures, and some close encounters with the humans, with amusing results. Equally the human star ship Captain, Lawrence Grey and his crew must come to terms with their cross-cultural, cross-species prejudices as they become more involved with the aliens. Joanna Ray has created an amazing world with vividly original characters. Book excerpt: Legends are said to be those individuals who soar above the limitations of the average human experience. These special souls leave eternal footprints in the hearts of even the casual observer, and their message remains timeless. History books are full of stories about these remarkable people. While some of these dynamic leaders affect only their generation, others are birthed for the purposes of eternity. Arthur Lee Crume Sr. is such a man. Arthur is the owner, manager and longest active member of the widely acclaimed Soul Stirrers Gospel Quartet. Historians herald this group as the greatest quartet in the history of gospel music. Arthurs musical talents catapulted and held him at the top of his field for several decades. Although he enjoyed all the attention and accolades he received, he had one serious problem. Arthur did not have a personal relationship with the God he was singing about. All the notoriety and fame stroked his already inflated ego and caused him to become even more self-absorbed. His poor choices and fleshly appetites scarred the lives of those who loved him the most, leaving broken hearts littered along lifes highway. But God, who is rich in mercy, never gave up on Arthur.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This novel is an exciting book to read and the genre is between a thriller and a mystery, because of all the twists and turns that this story takes you through. The story talks about everyday life and what really goes on in our lives. It touched upon all aspects of life and the ups and downs and the heart aches of life, death and deceptions. My husband Victor believed in me enough that he gave me this title and encouraged me to write this book. He said, Write a novel surrounding this title, The Jealous Bridesmaid. At first I laughed and I thought to myself that he was crazy, because I didnt know the first thing about writing a book. I eventually sat down at my computer and started typing and to my surprise, I wrote this novel. The Jealous Bridesmaid is based upon two best friends Rozelle Grant and Rachel Smith. Rozelle was the bad girl with good looks and lots of drama in her life and Rachel was the strong silence type; she was a spiritual woman but very bossy. The girls grow up together in a small rural town in Georgia. Rozelle Grant was a very pretty and a perky young lady with lots of problems with multi personalities, because she was envious of every body, especially Rachel. Rozelle tried to destroy Rachels relationship with her fiance Raymond. Rozelle would use whatever means possible to get what she wanted, even if she had to kill to get it. Rachel Smith came from a large family that lived on a farm. After high school, she went to college on a four year basketball scholarship to Georgia University. After college she move back to Parkerville and got a job working at a Tire Plant, where she was a supervisor. Her fiance Raymond also worked there, as a supervisor but in another department. Rachel was the rock and the support system for her large family and everybody depended on her. After dating Raymond for two years, they finally got engaged and were planning to wed, but Rozelle would try to do everything possible to destroy that relationship and to make sure that the wedding never took place. My first novel is based in a country setting, a rural town in the south of Georgia. This novel touched upon real life scenarios, such as funerals, drowning, deaths, wedding, and births. It also touches upon every aspect of life and the imagination as well. Christianity, relationships, breakups, make ups, heart aches, homosexually, bullying, voodoo rituals and lots more. There are situations about obesity, hypertension, high risk pregnancy and the outcome of what happen when it is not treated. Some parts of this story makes you laugh, cry and think about life as a whole. I compiled a lot of different situations together to come up with a great book. Readers will definitely be intrigued with my novel and cannot wait to find out what happens next.

With one bag of food at my door I fed my kids for a week, we were literally without a dime. My strength and willful confidence kept us going and my children believed in me, that was what kept us alive. Today I can honestly say- Ive come a long way.

Book excerpt: S.J. Wilson lives in Massachusetts and has worked as a farmhand, pie maker, radio dispatcher, telemarketer (briefly and with apologies), receptionist, kindergarten teacher, and at long last and most sweetly, a writer. From The Soul of Fenway: On the horizon, the sun was an orange ball of hell. The heat of another summer day waited for her, ready to wrench her back through summers gone by, finally screeching to a halt in 1967. Even if she could stop dreaming about Nate, the summer would still come around to haunt her. It wasn't until after he was dead that she realized how much he looked like summer. The August sky matched the blue of his eyes and his hair was the color of native corn. She'd only known him with a tan and she remembered his skin, always golden-brown and smelling of Coppertone(r). And he lived for this season, when long hot days reached into the night, when everything was baseball and youthful optimism. He was summer. And God, she hated it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heal Your Way Forward is a seminal work in antiracism, guiding white and white-identifying folks to utilize activism for intergenerational healing. In 2018, myisha t hill created the @ckyourprivilege handle on Instagram to undo the harm created between white women and women of the Global Majority. After years of living in the micro- and macro-aggressions of white culture, myisha was tired of staying silent. But she wanted to do more than fight back—she wanted to heal forward. "myisha t hill is a rare educator who comes from a place of compassion and profound emotional insight. She is leading a revolution of mind, heart, and soul, one that she now continues in her highly anticipated book, Heal Your Way Forward. myisha's work changes how we experience the world by helping us understand our place within it. This book shows anyone interested in human liberation the way to heal, to hope, and to become true advocates and co-conspirators — not just for justice and change, but for the future of who we are as humans." — Anna Paquin, Actress and Producer In just over three short years, Check Your Privilege and myisha's personal platform have amassed more than 750K followers on Instagram and became hubs for interracial activism during the Great White Awakening of 2020. But like many antiracism activists, myisha saw the activism abate after the election of President Biden. Heal Your Way Forward: The Co-Conspirator's Guide to an Antiracist Future is the trumpet call to white and white-identifying folks, guiding them to recognize their antiracism work as intergenerational healing. In her first major book, myisha asks the most critical question of antiracism work: what do we want the world to look like in seven generations? This book is her answer, but also, it's a tactical, practical guide for learning (and unlearning), healing (and feeling through the hurt), and committing (and recommitting) to real change and a reparative future. This is the book myisha's 750,000 followers have been waiting for—a marriage of personal story, antiracist handbook, and an emotional plea to all people to be the change today so we can heal the world for tomorrow. In this seminal work, myisha offers readers the ultimate reason to engage in activism—to create a better world not just for our babies, but for our babies' babies—and a clear strategy to change the future and nature of interracial activism by: Sustaining the great white awakening by discovering the sweet spot of shame and vulnerability Making room for white tears Developing radical listening and lifelong learning Practicing the great act of recommittment And building a reparative future As myisha shares, the more you fail forward, the more you heal your way forward, and the better we can heal the future together. myisha t hill is a mental health activist, speaker, and entrepreneur passionate about mental wellness and empowerment for all. She runs the advocacy site Check Your Privilege with more than 700K followers on Instagram. Additionally, myisha works with organizations and community groups taking white people on a self-reflective journey to explore their relationship with power, privilege, and racism.
