Download or read book Synergy written by Murray James and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-11-23 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some people may think romance is dead. It isnt; it has just changed, along with the society we inhabit. Though this story would be viewed as a gay romance, that is not my main motivation in writing this book. It is intended to explore relationships in general. All relationships are different and unique. What is it that makes them work or not work? Synergy explores relationships through observations and comments via the many conversations and personal introspections and reflections of the two main characters. The two central characters are an aging, very private, and semi-introverted Australian writer and a handsome young Spanish artist. Their personal histories, environments, family influences, and important life experiences are explored and discussed. What shaped these two people into who they now are? Why does their unlikely relationship seem to work so well? When by all reasonable logic, it most probably shouldnt. This is the second volume in a trilogy. It continues on from the first published volume, Serendipity, where they meet on the Greek Island of Skopelos and are rapidly drawn together in a surprising and unforeseen set of circumstances. Synergy follows their developing and deepening relationship as they travel extensively. First in Spain, where they marry; then to London, for an exhibition of the artists works; Australia; and finally sail from Spain back to their new villa on Skopelos. There is the occasional glitch and questioning concerning their relationship, but it ends quite positively as the two move into and set up their new villa overlooking the magnificent Aegean Sea. The continuation and evolution of their story and relationship in the third volume is alluded to in the last chapter. Each volume is written as a separate and complete story that may be read on their own or in sequence. Murray James

Ely, who began his life's journey in 1911 when he was born on a small Pennsylvania farm. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1933 and went on to serve for Thirty-three years, rising to the rank of Lieutenant general before his retirement from the service in 1966. Then, returning to military education and experience to other uses, he built a successful career as a civil engineer. He also designed a golf course, assembled an admirable record as an amateur golfer, and co-authored Lief Sverdrup: Engineer Soldier at His Best. In his personal life, beginning before his retirement from active duty, he and Helen, his wife, raised a family and marked seventy-four years together before her own death at one hundred. The Oldest Living Graduate reaches its end with a brief personal status report of the author's daily life. He chose as the final chapter's last word a portion of the lyrics from West Point's "Alma Mater" : "And when our work is done. / Our course on earth is run. / May it be said, 'Well done. / Be thou at peace.'" Weather you are one who relishes reading personal histories or one who admires individuals who live with tenacity and hood humor, The Oldest Living Graduate will satisfy you with its personal look at more than a century of living."--Page 4 of cover.

Download or read book The Way from Me to Us written by Mike Coleman and published by Riverdale Avenue Books LLC. This book was released on 2023-06 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two men in love. A world ready for change. THE WAY FROM ME TO US is the story of two pioneers. It’s the true account of a love that began nearly 50 years ago in a Nashville gay bar called The Other Side. It was 1977, when coming out could mean you lost everything. Your job. Your friends. Your family. Mike and Ted were all too aware of the risks at the bar that night. It was literally a step to the other side for Mike, who was nowhere near as accepting of his true self as Ted was of his. “I like being gay,” Ted told him. “I’d like to find somebody who likes being gay with me.” Mike accepted the challenge. With no instruction manual, the two of them staked out a life together at a time when such things “just weren’t done.” Theirs is a story of two men battling the toughest challenges, some external, some that sprang from within. It’s the story of the triumph of an undeniable love that has lasted nearly half a century. This uplifting memoir will move and inspire you. It’s living proof that, no matter how vehemently the world works against it, love wins.

Book excerpt: Becoming Free Have you ever dreamed of just clearing your desk, packing up your life and heading across Europe into the sunset for an adventure, not knowing where it’s going to take you? Well, Kay did just that. She was maybe naïve, but she was determined to follow her dream of living free. After being made redundant from the fifth largest employer in the world, she made that jump into the unknown, knowing that she couldn’t stay on these shores any more. We join her in a real-time journey of adventure, self-discovery and awakening as she as she escapes to an old friend’s yoga retreat in rural Portugal. We meet the characters she encounters along the way, all leading an alternative lifestyle outside the normal social order. And for a while, she too is part of this. But what brought her back to the UK so soon, to re-enter the society she had fled on six months earlier, and from which she had been so desperate to escape? A week before Christmas, she finds herself back, in sub-zero temperatures, to a homecoming not fit for a fairytale. Back in the rat race she had left behind, stripped of all material possessions and with no home or job to fall back on. But with the compassion of friends and the kindness of strangers, she started to rebuild her life. Then God dealt her a blow that would change her life forever. And out of the fear came hope. The fairytale had to end happily ever after, now!
