E una particolarita di questo vangelo che si applica, di fatto, ai discepoli: in una sequenza del discorso della montagna (6,25-34), durante la tempesta (8,23-27), nel cammino di Pietro sulle acque (14,22-23), durante la discussione dei lieviti (16,5-12) e, infine nel caso della mancata guarigione del ragazzo epilettico (17,14-20). Il presente studio si propone di analizzare i cinque brani appena citati, sia per se stessi che nel loro contesto, prossimo e remoto, con un'attenzione particolare allo sviluppo del tema della poca fede nello svolgimento del vangelo; a questi testi, inoltre, sara accostato anche l'episodio conclusivo dell'opera di Matteo (28,16-20) che ci consegna l'ultima azione dei discepoli (28,17) in bilico tra adorazione dubbio-esperienza, questa, che richiama implicitamente la poca fede. Una veloce sintesi finale raccogliera i dati piu significati emersi dal commento. La ricerca si presenta, dunque, come una sorta di affondo sia nella piu vasta e articolata tematica del discepolato che nella tematica della fede tout-court. I cinque testi sulla poca fede, come luminosi punti prospettici, uniti all'accenno del finale (28,17), sono in grado di offrirci un suggestivo ritratto - per un verso da completare con altri dati sparsi nel vangelo, e per un altro verso sufficientemente compatto - di colui che liberamente e chiamato ad accogliere il Dio-con-noi nella persona di Gesu (1,23, 28,20).

Why did he modify the text so much and arrange ten miracle narratives one after the other at one stretch with minor interruptions? Why did he place the so-called «miracle chapters» immediately after the Sermon on the Mount. Why did he enclose them between two summary statements on either side? These are only some of the unanswered questions about chapters 8 and 9 of Matthew's Gospel. Beginning with Aristotle's theory of the drama or tragedy, the author suggests that the way the evangelist has reworked and reorganized the miracle narratives is similar to the structure of the classic drama. By discovering the narrative strategies and the discourse aspect, we are able to demonstrate how each episode corresponds to the different moments of a plot such as the initial situation, inciting moment, complication, climax with suspense and finally resolution and denouement.
