Book Synopsis Semigroups of Operators -Theory and Applications by : Jacek Banasiak
Download or read book Semigroups of Operators -Theory and Applications written by Jacek Banasiak and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-20 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many results, both from semi group theory itself and from the applied sciences, are phrased in discipline-specific languages and hence are hardly known to a broader community. This volume contains a selection of lectures presented at a conference that was organised as a forum for all mathematicians using semi group theory to learn what is happening outside their own field of research. The collection will help to establish a number of new links between various sub-disciplines of semigroup theory, stochastic processes, differential equations and the applied fields. The theory of semigroups of operators is a well-developed branch of functional analysis. Its foundations were laid at the beginning of the 20th century, while the fundamental generation theorem of Hille and Yosida dates back to the forties. The theory was, from the very beginning, designed as a universal language for partial differential equations and stochastic processes, but at the same time it started to live as an independent branch of operator theory. Nowadays, it still has the same distinctive flavour: it develops rapidly by posing new ‘internal’ questions and in answering them, discovering new methods that can be used in applications. On the other hand, it is influenced by questions from PDEs and stochastic processes as well as from applied sciences such as mathematical biology and optimal control, and thus it continually gathers a new momentum. Researchers and postgraduate students working in operator theory, partial differential equations, probability and stochastic processes, analytical methods in biology and other natural sciences, optimization and optimal control will find this volume useful.

Book Synopsis Singularities of Differentiable Maps, Volume 2 by : Elionora Arnold
Download or read book Singularities of Differentiable Maps, Volume 2 written by Elionora Arnold and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-05-16 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume is the second in a two-volume set entitled Singularities of Differentiable Maps. While the first volume, subtitled Classification of Critical Points and originally published as Volume 82 in the Monographs in Mathematics series, contained the zoology of differentiable maps, that is, it was devoted to a description of what, where, and how singularities could be encountered, this second volume concentrates on elements of the anatomy and physiology of singularities of differentiable functions. The questions considered are about the structure of singularities and how they function.
Book Synopsis Markov Processes and Related Problems of Analysis by : Evgeniĭ Borisovich Dynkin

This book was released on 1982-09-23 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of Markov Processes has become a powerful tool in partial differential equations and potential theory with important applications to physics. Professor Dynkin has made many profound contributions to the subject and in this volume are collected several of his most important expository and survey articles. The content of these articles has not been covered in any monograph as yet. This account is accessible to graduate students in mathematics and operations research and will be welcomed by all those interested in stochastic processes and their applications.

Book Synopsis Singularities of Differentiable Maps by : V.I. Arnold
Download or read book Singularities of Differentiable Maps written by V.I. Arnold and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present. volume is the second volume of the book "Singularities of Differentiable Maps" by V.1. Arnold, A. N. Varchenko and S. M. Gusein-Zade. The first volume, subtitled "Classification of critical points, caustics and wave fronts", was published by Moscow, "Nauka", in 1982. It will be referred to in this text simply as "Volume 1". Whilst the first volume contained the zoology of differentiable maps, that is it was devoted to a description of what, where and how singularities could be encountered, this volume contains the elements of the anatomy and physiology of singularities of differentiable functions. This means that the questions considered in it are about the structure of singularities and how they function. Another distinctive feature of the present volume is that we take a hard look at questions for which it is important to work in the complex domain, where the first volume was devoted to themes for which, on the whole, it was not important which field (real or complex) we were considering. Such topics as, for example, decomposition of singularities, the connection between singularities and Lie algebras and the asymptotic behaviour of different integrals depending on parameters become clearer in the complex domain. The book consists of three parts. In the first part we consider the topological structure of isolated critical points of holomorphic functions. We describe the fundamental topological characteristics of such critical points: vanishing cycles, distinguished bases, intersection matrices, monodromy groups, the variation operator and their interconnections and method of calculation.

Book Synopsis Discrete Representations of Random Signals by : Kenneth L. Jordan
Download or read book Discrete Representations of Random Signals written by Kenneth L. Jordan and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation of the possibility of efficient, discrete representations of random signals is discussed. In many problems a conversion is necessary between a signal of continuous form andA SIGNAL OF DISCRETE FORM. This conversion should take place with small loss of information but still in as efficient a manner as possible. Optimum representations are found for a finite time interval. The asymptotic behavior of the error in the stationary case is related to the spectrum of the process. Optimal solutions can also be found when the representation is made in the presence of noise. These solutions are closely connected with the theory of optimum linear systems. Some experimental results have been obtained by using these optimum representations. (Author).

This book was released on 1991-06-30 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Praesidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences has decided to publish three volumes of Selected Works of A.N. Kolmogorov, one of the most prominent mathematicians of the 20th century. The creative work of A.N. Kolmogorov is exceptionally versatile. In his studies on trigonometric and orthogonal series, theory of measure and inte gral, mathematical logic, approximation theory, geometry, topology, functional analysis, classical mechanics, ergodic theory, superposition of functions, and in formation theory, many conceptual and fundamental problems were solved and new questions were posed which gave rise to a great number of investigations. A.N. Kolmogorov is one of the founders of the Soviet school of probability theory, mathematical statistics, and the theory of turbulence. In these areas he obtained a number of basic results, with many applications to mechanics, geophysics, linguistics, biology and other branches of knowledge. This edition includes the most important papers by A.N. Kolmogorov on mathematics and natural science. It does not include philosophical and ped agogical studies of A.N. Kolmogorov, his articles written for the "Bol'shaya Sov'etskaya Entsiklopediya", papers on prosody and various applications of mathematics and publications on general questions. The material of this edition was selected and grouped by A.N. Kolmogorov.
