Book excerpt: Fans of Mo Willems and Dev Petty's I Don't Want to Be a Frog will love this humorous tale about one gnome's journey to prove he is unlike the other magical creatures in the forest. Join Gnome (that's spelled G-N-O-M-E--don't ask why the G is silent!) as he travels through the magical forest to attend the annual Gnome Festival. Along the way he encounters elves, dwarves, trolls, and fairies. But don't be mistaken. He is NOTHING like those magical creatures. Well, maybe he is . . . but only a little bit! When Gnome finally arrives at the festival, he realizes that all the traits he thought made gnomes different from the others actually made them alike--and that's just fine.

Book excerpt: ISSN: 2397-9607 Issue 340 In this 340th issue of the Baba Indaba’s Children's Stories series, Baba Indaba narrates the Fairy Tale "THE THREE LITTLE GNOMES”. ONCE upon a time, long, long ago in a forest far, far away, a silvery thread of smoke curled up over the trunk of the old tree and floated away through the forest, and tiny voices came from beneath the trunk of the old tree. Even longer ago, the tree had stood strong and upright and its top branches reached far above any of the other trees in the forest, but the tree had grown so old it began to shiver when the storms howled through the branches. And as each storm came the old tree shook more and more, until finally in one of the fiercest storms it tumbled to the earth with a great crash. There it lay for centuries, and vines and bushes grew about in a tangled mass until it was almost hidden from view. Now down beneath the trunk of the fallen tree lived three little gnomes, and it was the smoke from their fire which curled up over the trunk of the old tree and floated away through the forest. They were preparing dinner and laughing and talking together when they heard the sound of a horn. "What can it be?" one asked. "It sounds like the horn of a huntsman!" another cried. As the sound came nearer, the three little gnomes stamped upon their fire and put it out so that no one would discover their home. Then they climbed upon the trunk of the tree and ran along it to where they could see across an open space in the forest without being seen themselves. And when the sound of the horn drew very close, they saw a little boy climb through the thick bushes. As the little boy came out into the open space the three little gnomes saw that he was crying. "He must be lost!" said the first little gnome. "He looks very tired and hungry!" said the second little gnome. "Let us go and ask him!" said the third little gnome, and that’s when the adventure of the three little gnomes began. What adventure you ask? What happened next – is that ANOTHER question? Where did they go, what did they do? Well many things happened, some silly and some serious. To find the answers to these questions, and others you may have, you will have to download and read this story to find out! Book excerpt: An unsettling, wildly imaginative collection of stories The Gnome Stories focuses on characters who are loners in the truest sense; who are in the process of recovering from mental, physical, or emotional trauma; and who find solace—or at least a sense of purpose—in peculiar jobs and pursuits. A man whose wife has left him is robbed, so he decides to start doing his own breaking and entering, into his neighbors’ homes. When another man’s girlfriend is cryogenically frozen by her family after a car accident, he becomes a maintenance worker at the cryogenic facility, eavesdropping on visitors as they whisper secrets to their frozen loved ones. A woman serves as an assistant to the Starvationist, whose methods to help clients lose large amounts of weight are unorthodox, sadistic—and utterly failproof. Another woman and her robot assistant have been hired to tinker with the troubling memories inside a celebrity’s brain. With The Gnome Stories, Ander Monson presents eleven unforgettable stories about oddly American situations: as surreal as an urban legend and at the same time perfectly mundane.

When she realized that a “gnome” was also another word for a proverb, she brought the two together. The result is a charming collection of Scandinavian wisdom accented by whimsical illustrations. There are gnome women chopping wood (“chop your own wood and it will warm you twice”), men surreptitiously knitting (“two balls of yarn are better than one”), and gnome kids making snow angels, skiing, and more. In The Little Winter Book of Gnomes, Sevig invites readers into a cozy wonderland of her own prolific imagination. With recipes for holiday favorites like mulled cider and gingerbread, this book is the perfect gift to inspire readers to take joy in all of winter’s little happy-makers.

The first book is an introduction to Jude's world and his family of Immortals, but the second book is an action-packed adventure filled with time travel and people from myth and legend. I was so caught up in the book that I did not want to put it down. Ms. Lewis writes a story that flows effortlessly from the pages, creating a rich and fulfilling reading experience." Delene Vrey for Reader's Favorite For a time, they remained hidden. For a time, they remained as legends. Until it was not enough to only live. Jude, the vampire king, just wanted to live out his life with his new bride. Go on their honeymoon, read the paper every Sunday morning over coffee and beignets, bury himself in the comfort of his wife’s arms. Is that too much to ask? They say life is what happens while you’re making other plans, and now Jude is coming to terms with two highly uncomfortable truths: the world is nothing as he’s known it to be, and nothing will ever the be the same again. Because while he’s been on a personal quest to save history, an ancient and paranormal war has been simmering beneath his nose to wipe out his family and the vampire kind in general. Now, like it or not, Jude is forced to step into his destiny as leader, king and the prophesied Warrior. With the help of the People of Wudge, along with history’s immortal heroes, Jude and his family will begin to discover their true purpose – and just exactly how nightmares can become reality. Continuing where A New Queen left off, join our band of immortal misfits as they travel the world in search of the keys to defeat the supernatural army rising to destroy them. Part historical fiction, part speculative fiction, and part paranormal fiction, take a deeper dive to discover the stories behind Marie, Ludwig, the People of Wudge and the Ancient Impieties! What if… everything you knew about history was a lie? What if… it was all connected? *Please note: This book picks up directly where Book 1 left off, and there is a cliffhanger.* "...what also impressed me about this superb creation was its emotional resonance and the level of realism that’s interwoven by the presence of real history and powerful characterization. There was also a great deal of humor, pathos, intrigue, and mystery, not least in the utterly charming dialogue and razor-sharp wit, which characterized each individually wonderfully and moved the plot along at a suitably action-packed pace." Hard copy first editions are sought by collectors; this resurrected ebook showcases Gruelle's original text, which is further enhanced by his wonderful colour drawings, which in themselves have been made more vibrant, in order that the two may be fully appreciated by young and old alike. =============== KEYWORDS/TAGS: Book of Friendly Fairies, children’s book, color illustrations, Raggedy Ann, Raggedy Andy, captivated minds, vibrant, folklore, fairy tales, myths, legends, moral lessons, three, little gnomes, happy rattle, red, yellow, blue, recipe, happy day, grandfather, skeeter hawk, crow talk, fairy ring, violin, mr. and mrs., thumbkins, old rough stone, gnarled tree, sally migrundy, johnny cricket, saw, santa claus, twin sisters, happy, grumpy, little thumbkin, good deed, wishbone, tim tim, tamytam, tammy-tam, change, coats, whisp, smoke, asleep, toadstool, mushroom, little prince, Wizzy Owl, Fuzzy Fox, wild boar, wounded bear, bunny rabbits, escape, hunting horn, Willie Woodchuck, whittle, Timothy Toad, Eddie Elf, Gerty Gartersnake, Wallie Woodpecker, Billie Bumblebee, Tilly Toad, grumpies, Marjorie, pretty brown eyes, Merry Chuckle, Make-Believe Land, Witchy Crosspatch, disagreeable, Bug Boys, Tommy Grasshopper, Johnny Cricket, Willy Ladybug, catfish, Skeeterhawk, beautiful fish, teeney, weeney bit, grandpa, grandma, attic, chest, fables, storyteller,
