Book Synopsis Explosive Pulsed Power by : Larry L. Altgilbers
Download or read book Explosive Pulsed Power written by Larry L. Altgilbers and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2011 with total page 597 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explosive pulsed power generators are devices that either convert the chemical energy stored in explosives into electrical energy or use the shock waves generated by explosives to release energy stored in ferroelectric and ferromagnetic materials. The objective of this book is to acquaint the reader with the principles of operation of explosive generators and to provide details on how to design, build, and test three types of generators: flux compression, ferroelectric, and ferromagnetic generators, which are the most developed and the most near term for practical applications. Containing a considerable amount of new experimental data that has been collected by the authors, this is the first book that treats all three types of explosive pulsed power generators. In addition, there is a brief introduction to a fourth type ix explosive generator called a moving magnet generator. As practical applications for these generators evolve, students, scientists, and engineers will have access to the results of a considerable body of experience gained by almost 10 years of intense research and development by the authors.
Book Synopsis Electrotechnologies for Extraction from Food Plants and Biomaterials by : Eugene Vorobiev
Download or read book Electrotechnologies for Extraction from Food Plants and Biomaterials written by Eugene Vorobiev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-02-28 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, the electrotechnologies based on the effects of pulsed electric fields (PEF), such as ohmic heating (OH) and DC electric field, have gained real interest in the field of food processing. These techniques efficiently enhance methods of extraction from food plants and dehydration of biosolids. The PEF and pulsed OH techniques preserve the nutritional, functional, structural and sensory properties of products better than conventional extraction technologies. The electrofiltration and electro-osmotic dewatering can be very effective for the separation of bioproducts and dehydration of food wastes. The first source book in the field, this book gives an overview the fundamental principles of electrical techniques, electrophysical properties of foods and agricultural products, application of various emerging electrotechnologies for enhancing the solid-liquid separation and drying processes, extraction techniques of pigments, processing methods of different in-plant tissues and biosolids, electro-osmotic dewatering and electrofiltration of biomaterials, recent industrial- scale gains, and other aspects. Each chapter is complementary to other chapters and addresses the latest efforts in the field.

Book Synopsis Quasi-Optical Control of Intense Microwave Transmission by : Jay L. Hirshfield
Download or read book Quasi-Optical Control of Intense Microwave Transmission written by Jay L. Hirshfield and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-02-12 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between February 17 and 20, 2004, approximately fifty scientists from ten countries came together at the Institute of Applied Physics (IAP), Nizhny Novgorod, Russia to participate in a NATO sponsored Advanced Research Workshop whose appellation is re flected in the title of this volume, namely Quasi Optical Control of Intense Microwave Transmission. The fashionable label “quasi optical ” has come into use in recent decades to denote structures whose characteristic dimensions exceed (sometimes by large factors) the free space radiation wavelength. Such structures were and are developed to replace the traditional single eigenmode ones in situations when high frequenc ies (short wavelengths) are combined with high powers, a combination that could otherwise lead to RF breakdown and high Ohmic wall heating rates. Treatments of guided wave propagation in oversized structures is aimed at pr eserving the propagating field coherence and thus to provide efficient transmission of RF power to remote destinations such as antennas, microwave ovens, plasma chemical reactors, nuclear fusion machines, and the like.
Book Synopsis Energy Efficient Microwave Systems by : Lambert E. Feher
Download or read book Energy Efficient Microwave Systems written by Lambert E. Feher and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-04-21 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many individual technological solutions for microwave applications in industries have been developed without a clear pattern for a key strategy to replace conventional industrial technologies. In this work, the author shows how a modular microwave system line for very homogenous microwave fields is originated. "Energy Efficient Microwave Technologies" is designed for engineers and scientists from industry and academic research. The number of applications of this new technology is enormous: In this book, applications in the avionic field are shown as well as new methods in microwave materials processing for composite materials including new quantum aspects on microwave heating.

Book Synopsis Innovative Food Processing Technologies by :
Download or read book Innovative Food Processing Technologies written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2020-08-18 with total page 2482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Food process engineering, a branch of both food science and chemical engineering, has evolved over the years since its inception and still is a rapidly changing discipline. While traditionally the main objective of food process engineering was preservation and stabilization, the focus today has shifted to enhance health aspects, flavour and taste, nutrition, sustainable production, food security and also to ensure more diversity for the increasing demand of consumers. The food industry is becoming increasingly competitive and dynamic, and strives to develop high quality, freshly prepared food products. To achieve this objective, food manufacturers are today presented with a growing array of new technologies that have the potential to improve, or replace, conventional processing technologies, to deliver higher quality and better consumer targeted food products, which meet many, if not all, of the demands of the modern consumer. These new, or innovative, technologies are in various stages of development, including some still at the R&D stage, and others that have been commercialised as alternatives to conventional processing technologies. Food process engineering comprises a series of unit operations traditionally applied in the food industry. One major component of these operations relates to the application of heat, directly or indirectly, to provide foods free from pathogenic microorganisms, but also to enhance or intensify other processes, such as extraction, separation or modification of components. The last three decades have also witnessed the advent and adaptation of several operations, processes, and techniques aimed at producing high quality foods, with minimum alteration of sensory and nutritive properties. Some of these innovative technologies have significantly reduced the thermal component in food processing, offering alternative nonthermal methods. Food Processing Technologies: A Comprehensive Review, Three Volume Set covers the latest advances in innovative and nonthermal processing, such as high pressure, pulsed electric fields, radiofrequency, high intensity pulsed light, ultrasound, irradiation and new hurdle technology. Each section will have an introductory article covering the basic principles and applications of each technology, and in-depth articles covering the currently available equipment (and/or the current state of development), food quality and safety, application to various sectors, food laws and regulations, consumer acceptance, advancements and future scope. It will also contain case studies and examples to illustrate state-of-the-art applications. Each section will serve as an excellent reference to food industry professionals involved in the processing of a wide range of food categories, e.g., meat, seafood, beverage, dairy, eggs, fruits and vegetable products, spices, herbs among others.
