Book Synopsis Rarefied Gas Dynamics by : K Karamcheti
Download or read book Rarefied Gas Dynamics written by K Karamcheti and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rarefied Gas Dynamics is a collection of selected papers presented at the Eighth International Symposium on Rarefied Gas Dynamics, held at Stanford University in July 1972. The book is a record of the significant advances in the broad field of Rarefied Gas Dynamics that are considered to be of general and continuing interest. The articles in this compendium are organized under 10 main topics. The text presents research papers on the kinetic theory of gases; studies and experiments on shock structures of gases; use of kinetic theory for the solution of problems in evaporation and condensation; gas expansions and jets; and techniques and methods applied to the study of rarefied gas dynamics. The book also includes works on gas-solid interactions; descriptions of basic notions of current polyatomic gas kinetics; and observation of the gas dynamic phenomena in space. Physicists, aeronautical engineers, mechanical engineers, researchers, and students in the field of aircraft design will find this book a good source of knowledge and information.

Book Synopsis Atmospheric Effects on Radar Target Identification and Imaging by : H. Jeske
Download or read book Atmospheric Effects on Radar Target Identification and Imaging written by H. Jeske and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Advanced Study Institute (ASI) under discussion was initiated by the "Special Programme Panel on Radio meteorology" of the Scientific Affairs Division of NATO. The domain of this panel - and consequently the topics of their former ASI-~rogrammes - is the influ ence of the non-ionized atmosphere on electromagnetic wave propagation, its prediction and its use as a re mote sensing technique. It is the final goal to inform radio and radar engineers about the various defects caused by the propagation medium atmosphere. Today there exist high-sensitive radar systems which can pro vide identification and produce images of distant ob jects very accurately by measuring a) the effect of the target on the shape of a short radar pulse, or b) the wave front (phase and amplitude distribution) and its orientation in space. But usuallv the radar-to-target path is through the inhomogeneous and turbulent atmo sphere and so the absolut limits of the system are very often determined by this atmosphere. It was the plan of this ASI to arrange an interdisciplinary information exchange between radar experts and propagation specia lists in order to get a better understanding of the susceptibility to atmospheric effects and to develope new methods that will reduce or correct these errors. The lectures given and especially the intensive dis cussions during the workshop sessions contributed to this aim.

Book Synopsis Aerodynamic and Flow-visualization Studies of Two Delta-wing Entry Vehicles at a Mach Number of 20.3 by : James P. Arrington
Download or read book Aerodynamic and Flow-visualization Studies of Two Delta-wing Entry Vehicles at a Mach Number of 20.3 written by James P. Arrington and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The longitudinal, lateral, and directional aerodynamic characteristics of two space shuttle concepts have been obtained in helium for operational flight Reynolds numbers at angles of attack from minus 10 to 55 deg. Included are elevon control deflections, roll control due to ailerons, and the effects of a nose modification. Selected results were compared with those derived from tangent-cone and Newtonian theories. Also included are results of a flow-visualization study consisting of electron-beam-illuminated flow and surface oil-flow patterns.
