Book excerpt: Ever since the dawn of human life on this planet, Man has always sought to understand Nature, his own place in the scheme of Creation and the purpose of Life itself. In this quest for Truth, spanning many centuries and diverse civilizations, organized religion has shaped human life and determined to a large extent, the course of history. While some religions have been based on books, claimed by their adherents to be divinely inspired, others have relied solely on human experience. Al-Qur’aan, the main source of the Islamic faith, is a book believed by Muslims, to be of completely Divine origin. Muslims also believe that it contains guidance for all mankind. Since the message of the Qur’aan is believed to be for all times, it should be relevant to every age. Does the Qur’aan pass this test? In this booklet, I intend to give an objective analysis...

Book excerpt: In this book, you will read about: Allah showed Abraham the kingdom of the heavens and the sun, the moon and the stars Why has Allah made Abraham ascend to heavens to see the earth, moon, planets, sun and stars? Abraham and Venus Abraham: This is my Lord; but I do not love to take as Lord that which set and disappeared Abraham and the Full Moon Abraham: This is my Lord. This is bigger than Venus. But I do not love a Lord that is not lasting Abraham and the Sun Abraham: This is my Lord! This is greater! But I do not love a Lord who is not lasting. Abraham said to his Atheist people: How should I fear what you worship as gods when they can neither profit nor harm? How should I fear your idols when they can neither help nor hurt? How should I fear the sun when it is one of the creatures of the Almighty Creator? How come that you do not fear Allah when He has power over all things? When One = Ten = 700 One good deed = Ten good rewards in the Afterlife Hanif = the Religion of Abraham who totally and absolutely submitted to Allah Allah sent all the Messengers with One Message = "there is no god save Allah," so submit to Him Nobody Bears the Sin of Another Unto your Lord is your return after you die Everyone will be requited according to his deeds, whether good or evil No one has any special relation of kinship with Allah Allah invited the Jews and Christians to accept Allah's divine Oneness Do not take each other for Lords, beside Allah, as you have taken rabbis and priests The reasonable agreement proposed by the Prophet Muhammad An argument about Abraham's Faith and Religion Was Abraham Jewish? No Was Abraham Christian? No What was Abraham's religion? Allah's oneness = the faith of the entire prophets. O Jews and Christians! You disputed about that of which you had knowledge Why then do you dispute about that of which you have no knowledge? The nearest of kin to Abraham are those who follow him, as are this Prophet (Muhammad) and the Muslims Neither the Jews, nor the Christians, nor the idolaters could lay any claim to Abraham's religion Faith is the noblest form of social unity which alone is worthy of man Allah has chosen for you, O Muslims, the Islam which He commended unto Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus Allah is our Lord and your Lord Allah will judge between us on the Day of Judgement Unto us our works is the worship of Allah and the adoption of Islam Allah will bring humankind together on the Day of Judgement When Abraham saw how Allah raises and revive the Dead Abraham witness the secret of breathing life into the dead before his own eyes Allah gathers the bones of dead and revive them, just as He gathered these birds and revive them The Prophet Joseph said: I follow the creed of my fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob The affirmation of Allah's Oneness is the pure Religion, with which Allah has honored us The Prophet Joseph said to his fellow-prisoners: Is the worship of many gods better, or the worship of Allah, the Almighty? You worship, other than Him, anything but mere names that you your fathers have named for idols The meaning of the name Abraham Abraham is the leader of humankind Why every nation love Abraham? Abraham's Religion is the Religion of all messengers Abraham's Confession and why the churches hate the Prophet Muhammad Was Sarah Abraham' Sister or Abraham's Wife or Both?

Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject Orientalism / Sinology - Islamic Studies, grade: 1,0, San Diego State University (Institute for Religious Studies), course: The Qur'an, language: English, abstract: Jews, Christians and Muslims believe in the same God and all of them refer to one founding father. Abraham or Ibrahim, it depends from which perspective we are talking, is considered to be the progenitor of the three so-called Abrahamic religions Judaism, Christianity and Islam. For these great faiths, Abraham was the first human being who worshiped only one God. Jews call this God Yahwe or Elohim, Muslims call him Allah and in Christianity it is God the Father. It is true that these religions differ in their rules and duties but they do have some fundamental commonalities. All three religions are of monotheistic nature and they refer to Abraham as common founding father. Hence, it is not surprising that his figure and story can be found in their Sacred Books. As Prophet Abraham is an identification figure for all three religions, it might be interesting to discuss his role and to explore differences and commonalities of his person and his life in the different books. However, it would be beyond the scope of the following paper to allow a comparison between Prophet Abraham’s role in the Tora, in the Qur’an and his role in the Bible. Therefore, this paper is only going to focus on Abraham in the Qur’an, which represents the Islamic point of view and the Bible, which stands for the Christian perspective.

Book excerpt: In this timely, provocative, and uplifting journey, the bestselling author of Walking the Bible searches for the man at the heart of the world’s three monotheistic religions—and today’s deadliest conflicts. At a moment when the world is asking “can the religions get along?” one figure stands out as the shared ancestor of Jews, Muslims, and Christians. One man holds the key to our deepest fears—and our possible reconciliation. Abraham is that man. Bruce Feiler set out on a personal quest to better understand our common patriarch. Traveling in war zones, climbing through caves and ancient shrines, and sitting down with the world’s leading religious minds, Feiler uncovers fascinating, little known details of the man who defines faith for half the world. Both immediate and timeless, Abraham is a powerful, universal story, the first-ever interfaith portrait of the man God chose to be his partner. Thoughtful and inspiring, it offers a rare vision of hope that will redefine what we think about our neighbors, our future, and ourselves.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume contains essays dealing with the Second Temple Jewish traditions and documents preserved solely in their Slavonic translations. It examines these Slavonic pseudepigraphical materials in the context of their mediating role in the development of early Jewish mystical traditions from Second Temple apocalypticism to Merkabah mysticism attested in rabbinic and Hekhalot materials. The book represents the first attempt to study Slavonic pseudepigrapha collectively as a unique group of texts that share common theophanic and mediatorial imagery crucial for the development of early Jewish mysticism. The study demonstrates that mediatorial traditions of the exalted patriarchs and prophets played an important role in facilitating the transition from apocalypticism to early Jewish mysticism.

This book was released on 2011-06-03 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Islamic claim to supersede Judaism and Christianity is embodied in the theological assertion that the office of prophecy is hereditary but that the line of descent ends with Muhammad, who is the seal, or last, of the prophets. While Muhammad had no natural sons who reached the age of maturity, he is said to have adopted a man named Zayd, and mutual rights of inheritance were created between the two. Zayd b. Muhammad, also known as the Beloved of the Messenger of God, was the first adult male to become a Muslim and the only Muslim apart from Muhammad to be named in the Qur'an. But if prophecy is hereditary and Muhammad has a son, David Powers argues, then he might not be the Last Prophet. Conversely, if he is the Last Prophet, he cannot have a son. In Muhammad Is Not the Father of Any of Your Men, Powers contends that a series of radical moves were made in the first two centuries of Islamic history to ensure Muhammad's position as the Last Prophet. He focuses on narrative accounts of Muhammad's repudiation of Zayd, of his marriage to Zayd's former wife, and of Zayd's martyrdom in battle against the Byzantines. Powers argues that theological imperatives drove changes in the historical record and led to the abolition or reform of key legal institutions. In what is likely to be the most controversial aspect of his book, he offers compelling physical evidence that the text of the Qur'an itself was altered.
