Download or read book I Can Fix This written by Kristina Kuzmic and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2024-05-21 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of Hold On, But Don’t Hold Still, the emotionally charged and eye-opening account of a mother who navigates the cacophony of best practices and urgent advice from parenting authorities in search of a way to support her teen as he maps his own path to mental health. When Kristina Kuzmič started to see signs that her otherwise sunny, resilient teenage son was struggling, she was sure a few simple fixes could right the ship. But over the following months, the issues her family faced became more nuanced, complicated, and pervasive than she could've predicted—and what began as a clear to do list spiraled into an emotionally fraught and seemingly endless push and pull between signs of progress and overwhelming fear. Despite her best efforts, Kuzmič had internalized a set of obligations, ideas, and unrealistic standards from parenting culture and social media that left her unprepared to guide her child when he needed her most. Featuring an urgent and affirming foreword by renowned and New York Times bestselling clinician Dr. Shefali Tsabary—Kuzmič's new book debunks ten "parenting truths” that kept her in crisis, and delves into her insecurities and the mistakes she made to reveal invaluable lessons and transformative approaches that worked. While her family stands on the other side now stronger than ever, Kuzmič's journey calls to parents who have felt the instinct to say “I can fix this” in situations where good intentions far exceed our abilities to enact change.

The key theme is the devastation caused by this rare and fatal diabolical disease, it describes the wider circle affected when this disease strikes and how various persons handle the news. Hunting down Huntington's also presents strategies that are beneficial in navigating through this disease process. The book aims to increase the awareness of this disorder and inform the reader of its origins, history and on going research. I would like the reader to take away. . new knowledge of the HD process . learn about the ongoing research . become involved in the larger HD community chapters . learn ways where they can contribute . have a greater awareness of this condition My book's objective is to raise awareness for this illness and to encourage people to become involved in the local chapters. My desire is to give hope and encouragement to affected families. I'm also directing all royalties from the book to THE HUNTINGTON'S SOCIETY OF CANADA. Reading and learning about neurological diseases is significant because it's already believed that if a cure is found for HD other neurological dementias could also be prevented. My book isn't a supplement for business or a course.

Download or read book Talking to Depression written by Claudia J. Strauss and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2004-01-06 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When a friend or family member suffers from depression, we naturally want to help—but too often our good intentions seem to come out wrong. We can feel guilty, or even angry, about the sheer difficulty in communicating with someone we love so much. This practical, compassionate guide can help you understand exactly what your loved one is going through, and why certain approaches help and others have the potential to do damage. Whether your loved one is receiving professional treatment or not, this guide addresses the vital role you can play in managing the day-to-day ups and downs, and speeding up recovery. By discussing common behaviors and situations, Talking to Depression offers specific advice on what to do and what not to do—what to say and what not to say—to avoid frustration and give the kind of caring, effective support that really makes a difference. “A prescriptive guide for genuine relating with loved ones experiencing depression. It touches the heart of one’s inner experience.”—Jo Cohen Hamilton, Ph.D.
Download or read book Spoken written by Nicole Theron Parkes and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-10-02 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have been writings stories and poems since before I could write. My imagination is my constant companion; it has helped me through my toughest times when I was suffering with mental illness and a loss of self. My hope is that this book of my writings, poems and short stories will help at least one person to know that they are not alone in the silent, yet deathly grips of mental illness. In our culture today having a mental illness is bad, yet no one wants to talk about it. Mental illness can kill, the same as war or cancer, and we talk and hear about them all the time. For years I was silent, never telling anyone how hurt I felt and how much I had grown to hate myself. I thought I was the only one who felt this way and therefore I was broken or wrong. So I know that there are people out there who are needlessly suffering in silence and so I am going to take a step to break the silence and to hopefully begin to start a conversation, or at least make people hear and see what mental illness can do. Mental illness not only affects the afflicted person but it can trickle down to affect family members, work environments and even whole communities. Mental illness is becoming an epidemic in our society and no one is talking about it. I have spent too many years being silent and afraid. If you are reading this and you are suffering, or you know someone who is, you are not alone. I have been there too, and I have held on so that I could share my story and my love of writing and creative expression. Enjoy.

Book excerpt: "Answer the question unanswered for more than two millennia, and perhaps you may yet restore the world." On a September evening in 1931, John and Jack, two of the Caretakers of the Imaginarium Geographica, discover a cryptic warning on a medieval manuscript -- which is not only addressed to them but seems to have been written by their friend, Hugo Dyson! But before they can discover the origin of the strange book, Hugo walks through a door in time -- and vanishes into the past. And in that moment, the world begins to change. The Frontier, which separates our world from the Archipelago of Dreams, has fallen. Dark and terrible beasts roam throughout England. No one can be summoned from the Archipelago. And both worlds have fallen into darkness under the reign of a cruel and terrible king. The only hope to restore the proper order of things lies on a forgotten island at the edge of the Archipelago, where a time travel device left by Jules Verne must be used to race through history itself -- from the Bronze Age to ancient Alexandria and the founding of the Silver Throne -- in one night. And in that single night, John and Jack will find that the only way to save their friend and stop the chaos destroying the world is to solve a 2,000-year-old mystery: Who is the Cartographer?

Book Synopsis A Thousand Miles of Dreams by : Sasha Su-Ling Welland
Download or read book A Thousand Miles of Dreams written by Sasha Su-Ling Welland and published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. This book was released on 2007-09-05 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Thousand Miles of Dreams is an evocative and intimate biography of two Chinese sisters who took very different paths in their quests to be independent women. Ling Shuhao arrived in Cleveland in 1925 to study medicine in the middle of a U.S. crackdown on Chinese immigrant communities, and her effort to assimilate began. She became an American named Amy, while her sister Ling Shuhua burst onto the Beijing literary scene as a writer of short fiction. Shuhua's tumultuous affair with Virginia Woolf's nephew during his years in China eventually drew her into the orbit of the Bloomsbury group. The sisters were Chinese "modern girls" who sought to forge their own way in an era of social revolution that unsettled relations between men and women and among nations. Daughters of an imperial scholar-official and a concubine, they followed trajectories unimaginable to their parents' generation. Biographer Sasha Su-Ling Welland stumbled across their remarkable stories while recording her grandmother's oral history. She discovered the secret Amy had jealously hidden from family in the United States—her sister's fame as a Chinese woman writer—as well as intriguing discrepancies between the sisters' versions of the past. Shaped by the social history of their day, the journeys of these extraordinary women spanned the twentieth century and three continents in a saga of East-West cultural exchange and personal struggle. Book Synopsis The Invisible Mask by : Catherine Hope
Download or read book The Invisible Mask written by Catherine Hope and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2019-05-09 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you tired of feeling invisible and alone? There are few things worse than hiding behind an invisible mask with a fake smile, feeling unnoticed, unwanted, and desperately hoping that someone would notice the real you. Most of my life I struggled to fit in and to be accepted. I felt invisible and that I didn’t have a voice. Through my journey of finding acceptance and purpose, I wrote my prayers to God in the form of poems and wrote moments that I encountered a lesson learned or a struggle. I needed an outlet, so I wrote. What I didn’t expect was by doing so, I would find healing, acceptance, and love. I came to know of a loving Father who showed me that I wasn’t invisible, but loved by Him and had a purpose. God had a purpose for my tears and put it on my heart to share my journey with others. You deserve to be noticed, cared for, and valued. You are not alone but loved. My prayer is with this book others can and will find comfort and hope as my struggles point them to a Loving God, Savior, and Friend.
