With his patient, thoughtful approach to photo-documentation, his pictures celebrate objects and people in a humble, uncluttered way. Over a period of two months, Bolofo explored the corridors of Steidlville in Göttingen with the aim of creating a portrait of the printing and publishing house more personal than the photojournalistic series that have been made in the past. He achieved this by focusing on often overlooked everyday details such as smeared rubber gloves, tubs of ink and scraps of paper in a wire basket, and by photographing those who work at Steidl in settings and poses chosen by the sitters themselves. I Spy with My Little Eye, Something beginning with S is Bolofos homage to the craftsmanship and creativity of bookmaking. Koto Bolofo was born in South Africa in 1959 and raised in Great Britain. Bolofo has produced short films and photographed for such prestigious magazines as Vogue, Vanity Fair, Marie Claire and GQ. He has created advertising campaigns for companies including Hermès, Burberry, Levis and Dom Pérignon amongst others. Bolofo lives in the Vendée, France and his books with Steidl include Venus Williams, Vroom! Vroom!, La Maison and Grande Complication.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two sisters. Two strange tattoos. Two lives about to change beyond recognition. Firstly, they’re about to learn that supernatural beings exist. Secondly, despite being adopted, they’re about to learn they’re connected in ways almost impossible to comprehend. And thirdly, those supernatural beings mentioned above? Well, these two sisters are about to learn that they’re exactly that: supernaturals. Adopted sisters Lana Beth and Emma Jane are polar opposites, not only is one black and one white, but they couldn’t be more different in character either. And when the same strange 'tattoo' suddenly appears and winds its way up their bodies within days of each other, they soon realise there's more to their relationship than they could ever have imagined. Sent off to London for two weeks of so-called ‘work experience', the Morgan Sisters soon find themselves being initiated into the ancient Praxos Foundation, one that protects the innocent while fighting evil, both human and supernatural. A series full of action and adventure, it’s the ultimate fight between good and evil. "S G Turner has done it again! Her books get better and better.... this had me gripped from the start!" “Such an incredible story. The Morgan sisters are powerful ladies. Wish there was a sequel to continue the story of the Morgan sisters journey as adults. Love all the books and recommend them to all my friends and family.” BUY the Praxos Academy Box Set and explore the darker side of magic TODAY! Daisy Madigan’s Paradise "A fantastically evocative YA novella perfect for both younger and older teens.” When tragedy falls upon 15-year-old Daisy Madigan, she escapes to the only place she feels safe, the cemetery of Abney Park. There, in the company of the dearly departed, she realises she is changing, growing stronger and faster by the day. But in the darkness lurks a terror even she can't imagine facing. Daisy Madigan's Paradise is a Morgan Sisters novella. Check out The Ghost of Josiah Grimshaw, the first full-length novel in the series. The Ghost of Josiah Grimshaw "I would go so far as to say that this book could be the beginnings of a series as good as those by J.K. Rowling!" Adopted sisters Lana Beth and Emma Jane are polar opposites, but when the same strange 'tattoo' suddenly appears and winds its way up their bodies within days of each other, they soon realise there's more to their relationship than they could ever have imagined. Sent off to London for two weeks of 'work experience', the Morgan Sisters soon find themselves being initiated into the ancient Praxos Foundation, one that protects the innocent while fighting evil, both human and supernatural. At the same time, Lana Beth and Emma Jane must also investigate why the sweet but sometimes pesky ghost of Josiah Grimshaw just won't leave them alone. The Temporal Stone "S G Turner has done it again! Her books get better and better.... this had me gripped from the start!" It's been a couple of months since Emma and Lana entered the Praxos Academy and life has been hectic ever since. What with regular A level classes combined with learning all about the supernatural world, control classes, self-defence and fight night, the girls are constantly busy. But when their world seems to stop right in front of them, they and their fellow Watchers, have a huge mystery to solve. A mystery which will lead them on a long road trip across south-west England where they will meet all kinds of strange creatures, some intent on causing harm and others desperate to put a stop to the problem. Looking for Lucy Jo “Turner gives us a little bit of everything in these pages: adventure, the supernatural, excitement, mystery, and light romance all wrapped up in a great storyline.” It's their first Christmas since entering the Praxos Academy and 16-year-old sisters Lana Beth and Emma Jane Morgan are looking forward to some serious R&R. But when their little sister mysteriously disappears from her bed on Christmas Eve, all thoughts of fun disappear with her. Emma and Lana must do everything in their power to locate Lucy Jo and bring her home safely. Easier said than done, they are forced to go on yet another journey, this time taking them out to the murky depths of the North Sea as well as to the far reaches of southern Portugal. Another action-packed tale with a little bit of everything from adventure and excitement to mystery and light romance. We Stand Against Evil “Such an incredible story. The Morgan sisters are powerful ladies. Wish there was a sequel to continue the story of the Morgan sisters journey as adults. Love all four books and recommend them to all my friends and family.” Eleanor Hayden-Jones, the Guardian of the Fourth House of Praxos, has been kidnapped and it’s up to the Morgan Sisters to use their unique skills and special powers to find her. Can they get to her before it’s too late? Kidnapped by the cruel and twisted Madge Sophokles, Eleanor could be anywhere in the world. The girls, along with a few of their Mentors, have little to go on, other than a vague idea that she might be in Canada. A story full of action and adventure, it’s the ultimate fight between good and evil. A great book for lovers of The Magicians, Harry Potter, Vampire Academy, Morganville Vampires & Percy Jackson

In particular it turns upside-down the commonly held belief that professionals know better than parents how to educate and bring up children; and it throws doubt on the theory that working-class children underachieve at school because of a language deficit at home. The second edition of this bestselling text includes a new introduction by Judy Dunn. Fascinating account of an unusual research project challenges many assumptions about how young children. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title for 2009 "This ground-breaking resource is strongly recommended for all libraries and health and welfare institutional depots; essential for university collections, especially those catering to social studies programs." —Library Journal, STARRED Review Children and adults spend a great deal of time in activities we think of as "play," including games, sports, and hobbies. Without thinking about it very deeply, almost everyone would agree that such activities are fun, relaxing, and entertaining. However, play has many purposes that run much deeper than simple entertainment. For children, play has various functions such as competition, following rules, accepting defeat, choosing leaders, exercising leadership, practicing adult roles, and taking risks in order to reap rewards. For adults, many games and sports serve as harmless releases of feelings of aggression, competition, and intergroup hostility. The Encyclopedia of Play in Today′s Society explores the concept of play in history and modern society in the United States and internationally. Its scope encompasses leisure and recreational activities of children and adults throughout the ages, from dice games in the Roman Empire to video games today. With more than 450 entries, these two volumes do not include coverage of professional sports and sport teams but, instead, cover the hundreds of games played not to earn a living but as informal activity. All aspects of play—from learning to competition, mastery of nature, socialization, and cooperation—are included. Simply enough, this Encyclopedia explores play played for the fun of it! Key Features Available in both print and electronic formats Provides access to the fascinating literature that has explored questions of psychology, learning theory, game theory, and history in depth Considers the affects of play on child and adult development, particularly on health, creativity, and imagination Contains entries that describe both adult and childhood play and games in dozens of cultures around the world and throughout history Explores the sophisticated analyses of social thinkers such as Huizinga, Vygotsky, and Sutton-Smith, as well as the wide variety of games, toys, sports, and entertainments found around the world Presents cultures as diverse as the ancient Middle East, modern Russia, and China and in nations as far flung as India, Argentina, and France Key Themes Adult Games Board and Card Games Children′s Games History of Play Outdoor Games and Amateur Sports Play and Education Play Around the World Psychology of Play Sociology of Play Toys and Business Video and Online Games For a subject we mostly consider light-hearted, play as a research topic has generated an extensive and sophisticated literature, exploring a range of penetrating questions. This two-volume set serves as a general, nontechnical resource for academics, researchers, and students alike. It is an essential addition to any academic library.
