Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jump aboard this emotional roller-coaster ride through a painful past. A life full of suffering, rejection, loneliness, hatred, and heartbreaking memories of the author and his three sisters. The ways in which they were traumatized, abandoned, and made to fend for themselves. The author's experience of dealing with an alcoholic mother, being bullied, and turning to drugs, alcohol, and violence to cope with harsh reality. He shares his experiences of going in and out of jail and the hospital due to street fighting. He describes the joy of having a son and the pain of losing his mother, getting married, having a daughter, and being cast in the overwhelming role of being a parent without any experience of knowing what a normal family looks like. He shares with you the things that led him to God and how he experienced true healing. His hope is for others to find peace with their painful past too. God is your heavenly Father and will forgive you of your sin, but there are consequences; he will discipline his children. The author found this out the hard way when he wrote this book, facing ninety-one years in prison.

Book excerpt: Providing insight in a familys history against the backdrop of major world wars, Busters Book offers a collection of more than a thousand letters exchanged during the twentieth century as young men provided service to their country. In this memoir, author Donald Junkins has compiled letters, diaries, interviews, recollections, and photographs of the familys participants in both world wars and the Korean and Vietnam wars. This fascinating historical record includes the stories of a variety of escapades: from single-handedly opening an eight-year-old Nazi prison camp; to B-24 air forays from New Guinea in which an aerial gunner shot down two Japanese Zero planes; and to the rescue in Korea of wounded men stalled in a jeep in the middle of a freezing river that culminated in the awarding of the Silver Star. Busters Book reflects both the lives of a middle-class American family during these years and the daily activities of two generations of young American men at war.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teen films of the 1980s were notorious for treating consent as irrelevant, with scenes of boys spying in girls' locker rooms and tricking girls into sex. While contemporary movies now routinely prioritize consent, ensure date rape is no longer a joke, and celebrate girls' desires, sexual consent remains a problematic and often elusive ideal in teen films. In Consent Culture and Teen Films, Michele Meek traces the history of adolescent sexuality in US cinema and examines how several films from the 2000s, including Blockers, To All the Boys I've Loved Before, The Kissing Booth, and Alex Strangelove, take consent into account. Yet, at the same time, Meek reveals that teen films expose how affirmative consent ("yes means yes") fails to protect youth from unwanted and unpleasant sexual encounters. By highlighting ambiguous sexual interactions in teen films--such as girls' failure to obtain consent from boys, queer teens subjected to conversion therapy camps, and youth manipulated into sexual relationships with adults--Meek unravels some of consent's intricacies rather than relying on oversimplification. By exposing affirmative consent in teen films as gendered, heteronormative, and cis-centered, Consent Culture and Teen Films suggests we must continue building a more inclusive consent framework that normalizes youth sexual desire and agency with all its complexities and ambivalences.

Book excerpt: Joey, Cole, Haden and Braxton have been a constant in my life since I was five, and I have loved being one of the guys. I've been cheerleader. I've been study partner. I've been listener. When we're young, we don't realize the profound impact certain people will have on our lives. I had no idea twelve years ago I'd meet four boys who would turn out to be my best friends, my soul mates - my barmy. Now school is almost done, our last summer together is drawing closer, and I'm trying to hold on to what we have while I still can. After this we'll have to say goodbye to each other, as our choices will take our lives in different directions. But I don't know if our friendship can survive once secrets and surprises begin revealing themselves to us at every turn. When it's all said and done, will our friendships remain unbreakable? Or will our once strong bond prove to be weaker than we anticipated? Letting go is harder than I thought, but some changes are necessary. And finding Laila...finding myself...may be the greatest journey of all.
