Solomon spoke a word in Proverbs 17:17, saying, "A friend loves at all times." Talking about a friend that sticks closer than a brother and a friend that loves at all times, I had biological brothers and sisters, but none of them were in my life. I was the only one out of eight that was not in the home with them. On September 25, 1975, when I found my way to the Cross, Jesus told me, "I will never leave you, nor will I forsake you. I'm going to be with always." On June 19, 2021, I was at my church that Saturday morning, crying and praying. I felt so all alone. I was under such heavy burdens. I felt like what the prophet Isaiah said, "When the enemy shall come in like a flood." As I was crying, talking to the Lord, telling him, "I feel so all alone. I don't have anybody," I heard Jesus say unto me, "I am your friend that sticks closer than a brother." Jesus told me, "Begin writing the book, and title it I Have a Friend That Sticks Closer than a Brother, His Name Is Jesus."

Like many, she struggled with an identity crisis. Her ambition was to be a supermodel, but after an encounter with Jesus Christ, she found that she was God’s model. Later, she discovered that the world brought her outward happiness, but Jesus filled her soul with joy. Struggling between the world and the Word, her decision would change her life. Would she follow her will or Jesus’s will for her life? Eventually, she forsook everything and ran to God for his divine purpose. She tells a story of great devotion to ministry followed by crisis after crisis, which left her with a broken heart. Never losing hope in the Word, she conquered every difficult trial, inspiring people to be overcomers. That means trusting Jesus while going through storms in life.

After his birth in southern Indiana, he grew up mostly in rural areas and small towns. He was educated in a one-room schoolhouse with different grades in different rows. He completed his course of study to become a minister at Kentucky Mountain Bible Institute and was ordained in the Church of the Nazarene. He spent most of his life as a pastor preaching the gospel. His memoir, presented in five parts, begins with his childhood years in the early forties, during World War II. From his near death experience at two from pin worm to the memories of his childhood in Indiana, he captures the essence of times gone but not forgotten. Part two explores the trials and victories of his journey as a preacher in the mountains of eastern Kentucky. In part three, he recalls leaving the mountains and returning to Indiana with his wife and partner in ministry. Finally, in parts four and five, he explores creation and offers proof of a living God and inspirational messages about the Christian faith. In Memory of the Good Old Days offers inspiring messages on faith and hope interspersed with tales of a life well lived.

Book excerpt: Throughout her life, the homespun advice of Florence's mother and grandmother has guided and sustained her. Florence may not have always followed it, but she always found out they were right in the end. As she meditates on the wisdom they offered her and tells her own story of redemption, Florence pays homage to the two women that most influenced her life. Their down-to-earth approach is perfectly captured in the reflections on their lives and the timeless wisdom that they passed on. These strong women faced slavery, racism, gender discrimination, and many other hindrances; however, they overcame powerfully, and their stories transcend those barriers of resistance. Their love for family and neighbor and their steadfast adherence to core values continues to be an inspiration. Remember What I Told You will help you recall the wisdom that you've gleaned from your own family as you learn from these amazing women. 'After having read the manuscript a second time, I found myself perusing the story, amazed at how each of the characters' lives are strangely entwined with the others and how they evolve and blend into the flow of the main plot, which is to encourage family values that permeate through the social fabric of our lives and society.' Rev. Paul R. Williams (UK/Afro-Caribbean Historian and Media Journalist) '[Flo's] family stories and examples in this book are truly remarkable. They give you a clear picture of the Bible scriptures that she is referencing. Remember What I Told You is real down-home stuff and a great inspiration! I encourage everyone to read it. It's appealing to both young and old.' S. Norwood Thornton (Entrepreneur/Entertainer)

Book excerpt: Jesus gave answers to the temptations of Satan beginning with the declaration: "It is written." The Word of God is a storehouse of answers to combat the woes of this life. It is also a treasure chest of promises and hopes for the saints of God. It has a wealth of remedies for those who have no hope and for those trodden down with the terminal disease of sin. The Lord Jesus Christ said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (Jn. 14:6) Man desperately searches the world over in quest of youth, longer life, and happiness of life. Yet, right before his eyes is the very treasure map that unveils the well of living water springing up unto everlasting life and the fountain of eternal grace flowing from Immanuel's veins. Within its pages the Holy Comforter has written wondrous guides through the straight and narrow way that begins at the foot of the old rugged cross. He leads the seeker securely in hand over the lofty heights of pure truth; and when the weary traveler is faint with distressing thirst, the Spirit and Bride say, "Come drink of the water of life freely, and you shall find rest for your soul and life more abundantly." These single page lessons are set forth only as brief simple studies of various topics of the Scriptures. They are not designed as theological discourses, or the settling of doctrinal issues. These are mere glimpses through the windows of the Word of God. They are thought provokers, docks for launching out into the deep, and stimuli for discussion of the truths of the Holy Scriptures. They are purposely designed for church bulletins, devotions, and study starters.

It was inspired by the Holy Spirit when I asked God to breathe an idea into me. Most of the poems in this book are experiences of the things I have faced, how God has lifted me up and given me strength to pull through. An intense war was going on inside me. Knowing the grace of God as I struggled to live right and hold on to my faith has turned me into a great worshiper. My faith has been shifted to another level. During writing, God was working through me, and He has transformed me in an amazing way. I pray that the Holy Spirit will minister to you as you read and that the poems will inspire, encourage, counsel, and change you.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Name of Friendship: Deguy, Derrida and "Salut" centres on the relationship between poet Michel Deguy and philosopher Jacques Derrida. Translations of two essays, "Of Contemporaneity" by Deguy and "How to Name" by Derrida, allow Christopher Elson and Garry Sherbert to develop the implications of this singular intellectual friendship. In these thinkers’ efforts to reinvent secular forms of the sacred, such as the singularity of the name, and especially poetic naming, Deguy, by adopting a Derridean programme of the impossible, and Derrida, by developing Deguy's ethics of naming through the word "salut," situate themselves at the forefront of contemporary debates over politics and religion alongside figures like Alain Badiou and Jean-Luc Marion, John Caputo and Martin Hagglund.
