Book excerpt: A 2021 INDIE NEXT Pick A Women's National Book Association 2021 Great Group Read When Angie is awakened by a midnight call from an officer with the Boise Police Department, she thinks there must be a misunderstanding. The officer tells her that her husband was involved in a shooting at a local bar, but how can that be possible when her husband is sleeping right next to her? Except when she turns to wake him, he isn’t there. Tessa is the twenty-three-year-old bartender who escapes to a backroom storage closet during the shooting. When it comes to light that five people were killed, she is burdened with the question of why she survived. Joyce wakes up to a knock at her front door, a knock she assumes is her wayward son, Jed, who must have lost his keys. It’s not Jed, though. Two police officers tell her that Jed is dead, shot at the bar. Then they deliver even worse news: “We have reason to believe your son was the shooter.” So begins the story of three women tied together by tragic fate—a wife trying to understand why her now-comatose husband was frequenting a bar in the middle of the night, the young woman who her husband was apparently pursuing, and a mother who is forced to confront the reality of who her son was and who she is.

Download or read book His Campaign written by Lois Breedlove and published by L.J. Breedlove. This book was released on 2023-07-11 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: He's the Man She's Never Forgotten Rebecca Jones and Jon Whitaker were childhood sweethearts — since the day she ran his campaign for president in the sixth grade. He was destined for politics, and Rebecca was going to be there to support his campaign. And then one day, she overheard what he really thought of her, and she fled. Now Rebecca is a professor of political science, and she's caught in a web of politics around freedom of speech, the Idaho legislature and a law banning critical race theory. Not that the legislature actually knows what CRT is, she gripes to her best friends on Friday night. Jon Whitaker is running for the Republican governor nomination. And he's got a problem. A big one. His father and uncle urge him to reunite with the girl he once scorned as bright, but not pretty enough for him. But Rebecca Jones has grown up. She isn't interested in his family's games. And Jon can't blame her. But she still might be just what he needs — even if she's considered the most liberal professor on campus. But what does Rebeca need? She doesn't know, but she's pretty sure it isn't the man who broke her heart and left her with panic attacks at a man's touch. His campaign. Her classroom. How love find a way through all of that to bring an HEA to two people so polar opposite? Maybe with a little help from Rebecca's friends. For her, they'll even pitch in to solve the problems a conservative politician brings to their world. (Anonymously. Dear God, says one. Don't let anyone know I helped you.) Book 1 in Rebecca's trilogy, and book 9 in the Second Chance Romances. Four women friends who have each other's backs. With that kind of support, you might even be willing to take another chance at love. For readers of Suzanne Brockman, Cherry Adair, and Elaine Levine.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book opens when Dr. Covelli arrives in Boise after twenty years away from the West. Chris discovers that some of his acquaintances from the past are by now old, have died, or are no longer active in the circles he knew them from. Chris decides to make new friends. Through a phone line, he meets a certain Hank, who is seeking a special friend, and Chris is receptive. A relationship develops. Hank tells about his own past life, having grown up inside a community of polygamist Mormons in Colorado City, Arizona. Chris becomes acquainted with Hank's first wife, Marcia. Her character is exposed. It so happens that Marcia makes Hank beholden to a commitment to surrender money and willpower to her church under threat of personal and professional destruction. Hank is weak and incapable of opposing the destiny plotted against him by her and the church. Chris helps Hank stay the course and go along with his life until things may change. Later, Hank is forced to marry a second wife, to go back to the church from where he, years in the past, ran away, and to continue to practice cannibalism as when he was a child. Chris discovers the practice and reminisces about seeing it in two other parts of the world, in highly primitive societies. Hank narrates the history of his church and how they degenerated as a result of a devilish curse. Chris helps Hank escape the curse by assembling a harem in the house they share. From this experience, great excitement is derived by Chris and for the future of Hank, except that destiny had it otherwise. The grandest imperial treasure is bequeathed to Chris, but Hank reverts to his old ways, ending murdered by his own family.

Download or read book Force 46 Strength and Conditioning written by Anthony Tridico and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2023-10-27 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Things do not really change as much as people like to claim. When people see the solution but, in reality, they do not see the problem, then the new concept of change/intelligence spirals down the rabbit hole farther and farther from the actual problem. This only creates more problems, never solving or improving anything, leading to more ignorance, not intelligence. I knew when I left the weight room for the last time at the University of Arkansas in 1992 that all human beings should train like this. The lessons I learned in Coach Stucky's weight room transformed my abilities in all areas to face the ills of society head-on in the chosen path ahead of me. A reality check in training, fitness, sport, and education is needed in the media-crazed times currently influencing society. Coach Stucky was the person who could see the problem and the solution fifty-seven years ago and counting. I am just a beneficiary of Coach Stucky's gifts, trying to pay it forward for the kids and future generations and strength and conditioning.
