Download or read book Computer Applications in Production and Engineering written by Frank Plonka and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 750 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the latter half of the 20th century, forces have conspired to make the human community, at last, global. The easing of tensions between major nations, the expansion of trade to worldwide markets, widespread travel and cultural exchange, pervasive high-speed communications and automation, the explosion of knowledge, the streamlining of business, and the adoption of flexible methods have changed the face of manufacturing itself, and of research and education in manufacturing. The acceptance of the continuous improvement process as a means for organizations to respond quickly and effectively to swings in the global market has led to the demand for individuals educated in a broad range of cultural, organizational, and technical fields and capable of absorbing and adapting required knowledge and training throughout their careers. No longer will manufacturing research and education focus on an industrial sector or follow a national trend, but rather will aim at enabling international teams of companies to cooperate in rapidly designing, prototyping, and manufacturing products. The successful enterprise of the 21st century will be characterized by an organizational structure that efficiently responds to customer demands and changing global circumstances, a corporate culture that empowers employees at all levels and encourages constant communication among related groups, and a technological infrastructure that fully supports process improvement and integration. In changing itself to keep abreast of the broader transformation in manufacturing, the enterprise must look first at its organization and culture, and thereafter at supporting technologies.

Book Synopsis Thermal Management of Electronic Systems II by : E. Beyne
Download or read book Thermal Management of Electronic Systems II written by E. Beyne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the second time, the Eurotherm Committee has chosen Thermal Managment of Electronic Systems as the subject for its 45th Seminar, held at IMEC in Leuven, Belgium, from 20 to 22 September 1995. After the successfui first edition of this seminar in Delft, June 14-16, 1993, it was decided to repeat this event on a two year basis. This volume constitutes the edited proceedings of the Seminar. Thermal management of electronic systems is gaining importance. Whereas a few years ago papers on this subject where mainly devoted to applications in high end markets, such as mainframes and telecommunication switching equipment, we see a growing importance in the "lower" end applications. This may be understood from the growing impact of electronics on every day life, from car electronics, GSM phones, personal computers to electronic games. These applications add new requirements to the thermal design. The thermal problem and the applicable cooling strategies are quite different from those in high end products. In this seminar the latest developments in many of the different aspects of the thermal design of electronic systems were discussed. Particular attention was given to thermal modelling, experimental characterisation and the impact of thermal design on the reliability of electronic systems.

Book Synopsis Perspectives from Europe and Asia on Engineering Design and Manufacture by : Xiu-Tian Yan
Download or read book Perspectives from Europe and Asia on Engineering Design and Manufacture written by Xiu-Tian Yan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-04-30 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will be the first proceedings of a series of symposia on the exchange of best practices and research in engineering design and manufacture organized focusing on Europe and Asia by a group of researchers from European and Asian Universities working on several EU funded projects. This very first book will explore the difference and communalities of European and Asian research and practice in this very important field. With the rapid economic expansion of Asia and the gradual shift of manufacturing from Europe and the USA to Asia, this Symposium will provide a timely forum for leading researchers in the field to exchange their research findings and experience. The book covers this first symposium, and aims to give insights to these on-going changes, shows their implications from design and manufacture perspective for both Europe and Asia and identifies new research topics to improve industrial practice. The primary audience of this book are researchers in the field of engineering design and manufacture, industrialists and business persons who are interested in finding out the state of design and manufacture in Asia and Europe.

Book Synopsis Collaborative Design by : Stephen A.R. Scrivener
Download or read book Collaborative Design written by Stephen A.R. Scrivener and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design occurs in a rich social context where the effectiveness and efficiency of social interaction and collective performance are key to successful outcomes. Increasingly, design is being explored and developed as a collective, collaborative, participatory, and even community process. The heightened recognition of designing as a social process has stimulated interest in collaborative design. This book contains the proceedings of the international conference "CoDesigning 2000" held in Coventry, England, September 2000. During this meeting exponents from a wide range of design domains came together to present and discuss perspectives on and new knowledge and understanding of collaborative design, and the evidence for enhanced design performance through collaboration. Within this volume different motivations for, conceptions of, and findings about collaborative design are addressed in 50 contributions by different research groups. Structured into 6 sections according to the main fields of interest, it provides a survey of the state of scientifically based knowledge and trends emerging from collaborative design research and their implications for a wide range of domains.
