Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die . . . A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.” War has come to Algoran. The Gulstaa nation is determined to expand their territory with merciless resolve. Their end goal is revenge for a past defeat — they want to conquer the Mountain Mokta and anyone else in their way. Jordan SnowFire is now the Mokta Chieftess. She has the daunting task of stopping a conflict she never asked for. Will she seek the wisdom of God or the wisdom of her tribe? What impact will the blood of SnowFire flowing through her veins have on the way she conducts this war? How far will she go to protect her family and the Mokta people? Meanwhile, Erica Melendez finds herself trapped in the middle of the hostilities. Tragedy forces her away from the Ullvarr village and into circumstances she never imagined when she came to this world. Can she survive long enough to be reunited with Jordan? Loyalties are tested. Decisions are made. And Algoran will never be the same after Jordan’s Arrow finds its target.
Book Synopsis When Blame Backfires by : Anne Marie Baylouny
Download or read book When Blame Backfires written by Anne Marie Baylouny and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2020-09-15 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent influx of Syrian refugees into Jordan and Lebanon has stimulated domestic political action against these countries' governments. This is the dramatic argument at the heart of Anne Marie Baylouny's When Blame Backfires. Baylouny examines the effects on Jordan and Lebanon of hosting huge numbers of Syrian refugees. How has the populace reacted to the real and perceived negative effects of the refugees? In thought-provoking analysis, Baylouny shows how the demographic changes that result from mass immigration put stress on existing problems in these two countries, worsening them to the point of affecting daily lives. One might expect that, as a result, refugees and minorities would become the focus of citizen anger. But as When Blame Backfires demonstrates, this is not always the case. What Baylouny exposes, instead, is that many of the problems that might be associated with refugees are in fact endemic to the normal routine of citizens' lives. The refugee crisis exacerbated an already dire situation rather than created it, and Jordanians and Lebanese started to protest not only against the presence of refugees but against the incompetence and corruption of their own governments as well. From small-scale protests about goods and public services, citizens progressed to organized and formal national movements calling for economic change and rights to public services not previously provided. This dramatic shift in protest and political discontent was, Baylouny shows, the direct result of the arrival of Syrian refugees.

Book excerpt: Retired Atlanta police detective Mac Burns was trying to enjoy retirement in the lowcountry town of Bluffton, South Carolina. He had planned to live a quiet, even solitary life after a challenging career and messy divorce. In his fifties, he never presumed he would meet a much younger woman who would change his view towards retirement. Shelby Crewe became his love interest and true partner as he faced new challenges that call upon his training in law enforcement. When asked by a neighbor to gather information about a fading rock star who had been accused of murder, Mac couldn't resist getting involved, asking some questions, and reviewing the evidence. Couldn't hurt. Charles "Deacon" Martin had been arrested and charged with negligent homicide of his fiance. The singer had no recollection of the incident and was so distraught that he hadn't mounted much of a defense. Mac had a hunch something was amiss. Porch Rocker is a classic "who done it" that takes Mac Burns, Shelby, and his neighbor Percy (a disbarred attorney) from Bluffton to Atlanta, and then to Birmingham in search of the truth.
