Book excerpt: Sue spent a lifetime being invisible. Metamorphosis is a deeply vulnerable account of Sues journey as she attempts to find love and success. She shares how she became accustomed to paying a high price for acceptance. Sue intertwines her pursuit of professional success and her quest for love from a Native American man who could not openly acknowledge his love for her to his closest friends and family. When she and Michael were alone their relationship was magical, spiritual and deeply fulfilling, but ultimately it represented her invisibility and her willingness to pay for love. In the same way at the height of her career Sue was considered a national expert on law enforcement policy, but she never completely fit in, spending most of her career hiding behind a faade she created for her own protection. When Sue got sick in 2009, all of her worlds collided and she could no longer live life in the same way. It was time to decide if she wanted to wither inside her cocoon or choose to begin to live and thrive.

Jensen Professor and Vice Chair for Research Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2011-04-02 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you suffer from chronic pain, whether as a result of an injury, illness, or accident, you know it can interfere with every aspect of your life. You may also know the medical treatments currently available are limited and, for many, ineffective. Current research has shown hypnosis to be an effective treatment for managing chronic pain, and almost all patients who learn self-hypnosis skills benefit from this approach. The hypnosis treatment found in this workbook has been scientifically tested and proven effective for reducing the intensity of chronic pain, including migraines, back pain, and tension headaches, among others. This workbook explains how to use these techniques to manage your chronic pain and take back control of your life and your health. Used in combination with the program described in the corresponding therapist guide, this workbook teaches you self-hypnosis skills for lessening your pain, enhancing your sleep, and improving your mood. The first chapters will help you understand how hypnosis works by changing how your brain deals with information it receives from the body. The complete hypnosis treatment described in this book, alongside the treatment you receive from your clinician, will ultimately teach you skills for pain management that you can use at any time, and for the rest of your life. "An excellent blueprint to understanding pain and the fundamentals of how hypnosis combined with CBT can offer pain amelioration. Perfect, even for uninitiated practitioners who wish to use empirically based scripts."--Jeffrey Zeig, Ph.D., The Milton Erickson Foundation "Pain can too easily enslave people, holding them captive in many different ways. It is a liberating theme of empowerment that echoes throughout Dr. Jensen's work: he empowers clinicians to work more knowledgeably and skillfully with people who suffer painful conditions using his therapist guide, and he encourages the suffering individual to break free from pain's grip with the practical pain management skills taught in his workbook. Dr. Jensen's vision for the many ways hypnosis can help reduce the debilitating effects of painful conditions is fresh, inspiring and should be regularly integrated into every pain management program."--Michael D. Yapko, Ph.D., Clinical Psychologist and author of Trancework: An Introduction to the Practice of Clinical Hypnosis (Third Edition) and Treating Depression with Hypnosis

This book was released on 2014-11 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus in psychology and psychotherapy for most of the twentieth century was on repairing the negatives of symptoms, traumas, disorders and deficits. Then around the turn of the century a refreshing movement began to gain credibility: Positive psychology and positive psychotherapy. Positive psychotherapy contrasts with standard therapeutic interventions for symptoms of mental or emotional dysfunction by increasing positive emotion, engagement, character strengths, and meaning rather than directly targeting negative symptoms. This developing trend is a direct descendent of the humanistic psychology movement and transpersonal psychology which evolved in the second half of the twentieth century. A further development in this continuum adds the dimension of adult development for optimal functioning into as yet unrealized potential: life coaching. Coaching hypnosis is the deliberate use of hypnotic strategies and principles as an adjunct to accepted coaching process. The inclusion of hypnosis, NLP techniques, and hypnotic strategies and principles in coaching is not only appropriate but highly effective. We will document some of the neuroscience reasons for this. Hypnosis creates a state of dual effect: relaxation yet responsiveness. The conscious mind is calmed, enabling access to the unconscious mind - 'trance logic' - a way of reasoning that does not follow the rules of 'normal' logical processes. Through this mechanism, an individual may have experiences and interpret them in ways that transcend their conscious rational belief system, opening new perspectives and expanded horizons of what is possible. Hypnosis: a new dimension in coaching.

Book excerpt: The workforce today is facing ever increasing demands for higher productivity, usually at the severe cost of decreasing quality of work life and private life. Inhibited by limiting beliefs, decreasing motivation and the burden of past negative experiences, many employees have a hard time coping, even with their normal, daily challenges. Motivational speakers come and go, people are "high" for a week or so, but then they dive back into despair. This book addresses this problem, namely how to acheive higher productivity without sacrificing the quality of work life or private life. It also describes how this problem can be solved by utilizing Neuro-Linguistic Programming interventions. The research, which this book is based on, proves that lasting positive changes can be induced in a short period of time, and that a significant increase in work life quality has a profound influence on productivity. This ground-breaking book contains descriptions of the research, the processes utilized, and the results achieved in an easy to read format.
