Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first symposium of the working group on experimental urology of the German Society of Urology was held in Cologne in 1972. It was meant to be a platform to present and, in particular, to discuss experimental studies developing new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, and to promote in novation in urology in Germany. This plan was well received, and during the last 16 years both the number of participants from other European and overseas countries and the number and quality of presentations have been continuously increasing. At the most recent meeting, held in Aachen in 1988, new data were presented on renal cell cancer, andrology, prostatic cancer and adenoma, bladder cancer, urinary diversion, urodynamics, renal pathophysiology, transplantation and the pathogenesis and treatment of urolithiasis. The present book contains 44 of the 109 papers given at the Aachen meeting, covering both basic and clinical research. It will be of eminent interest to all scientifically minded urologists, oncologists, neurophysiolo gists, endocrinologists, and pathologists because it is a synopsis of all the major scientific research currently being conducted in urology in Europe. There are no other books available which offer as comprehensive a cover age of recent experimental issues in urology. The aim of the series Inves tigative Urology is to demonstrate the continuous development of research in urology and to encourage all colleagues interested in experimental urol ogy to continue their important activities and create new international co operation.

This book was released on 2008-12-03 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clinics in Developmental Medicine No. 178 For most children with cerebral palsy, the extent to which they can use their hands is critical to their overall development. Over the last two decades there have been major advances in the understanding of hand function. Particularly in children with cerebral palsy, assessment of hand function has become more exact and the range of possible interventions has expanded. Changes in treatment approaches can be seen in neurorehabilitation, orthopaedic management, developmental pediatrics and rehabilitation including occupational and physical therapy practices. In this book, selected experts from around the world in the fields of neuroimaging, neurology, orthopaedics, anatomy, motor control and motor learning provide fundamental theoretical information for the development of hand function in children with cerebral palsy. The book also shows how theory can be translated into practice by clinicians who provide assessment and intervention services to improve hand use in this population in sections written by researchers in occupational and physical therapy. Linking different fields of knowledge, this book highlights new perspectives and provides the best evidence for different types of intervention. By focusing only on hand function this essential book highlights new concepts for clinicians and others working towards the overall well-being of children with cerebral palsy.

This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Author of this new book, ?Hyperbaric Oxygenation for Cerebral Palsy and the Brain-Injured Child?A Promising Treatment?, is Dr. Richard Neubauer, internationally known and respected as one of the foremost authorities on hyperbaric medicine (HBOT). Since the early 1970s, Dr. Neubauer has successfully treated thousands of patients for a variety of illnesses and brain insults using hyperbaric oxygenation. In the past five years his primary focus has been children with neurological problems, especially cerebral palsy and traumatic brain injuries. He has treated more than 400 children with cerebral palsy using hyperbaric oxygenation as one of the children?s therapies. His latest book is a complete guide for caregivers of children with cerebral palsy or traumatic brain injuries who are considering using hyperbaric oxygenation therapy. Written in a semi-scientific manner, the information should also be of value to physicians, researchers, and insurance providers seeking accurate and proven insight about the value of hyperbaric oxygenation therapy for these children. It is one of a few, perhaps the only, book available written exclusively for caregivers. It covers a broad range of subjects from the functions of the brain to choosing a medically sound hyperbaric center where a child can receive safe and appropriate treatments. While one of the primary goals of the book is to introduce the positive effects of hyperbaric oxygenation, another purpose is to help the caregivers understand how single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) scans can be used to document the activity in the brain before and after treatments.Dr. Neubauer received his medical degree form the University of Virginia Medical School. Trained as an internist, Dr. Neubauer held directorships at a number of hospitals before specializing in hyperbaric medicine. He has published numerous journal articles and lectures at medical facilities all over the world on the subject of hyperbaric medicine for children with cerebral palsy, and is the co-founder of the American College of Hyperbaric Medicine.
