Book excerpt: Studies of flow through the unsaturated zone and perched ground-water zones above the Snake River Plain aquifer are part of the overall assessment of ground-water flow and determination of the fate and transport of contaminants in the subsurface at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL). These studies include definition of the hydrologic controls on the formation of perched ground-water zones and description of the transport and fate of wastewater constituents as they moved through the unsaturated zone. The definition of hydrologic controls requires stratigraphic correlation of basalt flows and sedimentary interbeds within the saturated zone, analysis of hydraulic properties of unsaturated-zone rocks, numerical modeling of the formation of perched ground-water zones, and batch and column experiments to determine rock-water geochemical processes. This report describes the development of a transient numerical simulation that was used to evaluate a conceptual model of flow through perched ground-water zones beneath wastewater infiltration ponds at the Test Reactor Area (TRA).

Book Synopsis Hydrological Modeling by : Ramakar Jha
Download or read book Hydrological Modeling written by Ramakar Jha and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-02-05 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book carefully considers hydrological models which are essential for predicting floods, droughts, soil moisture estimation, land use change detection, geomorphology and water structures. The book highlights recent advances in the area of hydrological modelling in the Ganga Basin and other internationally important river basins. The impact of climate change on water resources is a global concern. Water resources in many countries are already stressed, and climate change along with burgeoning population, rising standard of living and increasing demand are adding to the stress. Furthermore, river basins are becoming less resilient to climatic vagaries. Fundamental to addressing these issues is hydrological modelling which is covered in this book. Integrated water resources management is vital to ensure water and food security. Integral to the management is groundwater and solute transport, and this book encompasses tools that will be useful to mitigate the adverse consequences of natural disasters.
Book Synopsis Hydraulic and Environmental Modelling: Estuarine and River Waters by : R.A. Falconer
Download or read book Hydraulic and Environmental Modelling: Estuarine and River Waters written by R.A. Falconer and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2019-07-23 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1992, this is the second of two volumes on recent advances in the field of hydraulic and environmental modelling, with invited and refereed contributions from an international group of engineers, scientists and planners involved in application, research and development. It covers the estuarine and river waters with parts devoted to: flow processes; flow modelling; salinity intrusion modelling; water quality modelling; sediment transport modelling; expert systems. The first volume covers coastal waters. With the continually increasing interest in the development and application of numerical hydraulic models, their value is especially evident as tools of design and management for flow, pollutant and sediment transport simulation studies in various environments. The readership includes practising engineers and scientists in the water industry, consulting engineers, water companies and the NRA and other government departments, university and polytechnic libraries, staff and students and all other members of the water engineering profession.
