Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume sheds new light on the immense potential of medicinal plants for human health from different technological aspects. It presents new research on bioactive compounds in medicinal plants that provide health benefits, including those that have proven especially effective in treating and managing diabetes mellitus and hypertension. It looks at the medicinal properties, antioxidant capacity, and antimicrobial activity of plants and provides scientific evidence on the use of medicinal plants in the treatment of certain diseases. Many of the plants described in the chapters are easily accessible and are believed to be effective with fewer side effects in comparison to modern drugs in the treatment of different diseases.
Book Synopsis Water Resources and Hydraulics by : Xixi Wang
Download or read book Water Resources and Hydraulics written by Xixi Wang and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-01-07 with total page 633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This exciting new textbook introduces the concepts and tools essential for upper-level undergraduate study in water resources and hydraulics. Tailored specifically to fit the length of a typical one-semester course, it will prove a valuable resource to students in civil engineering, water resources engineering, and environmental engineering. It will also serve as a reference textbook for researchers, practicing water engineers, consultants, and managers. The book facilitates students' understanding of both hydrologic analysis and hydraulic design. Example problems are carefully selected and solved clearly in a step-by-step manner, allowing students to follow along and gain mastery of relevant principles and concepts. These examples are comparable in terms of difficulty level and content with the end-of-chapter student exercises, so students will become well equipped to handle relevant problems on their own. Physical phenomena are visualized in engaging photos, annotated equations, graphical illustrations, flowcharts, videos, and tables.

Download or read book Ejecta Studies written by W. A. Roberts and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project included 146 ejecta measurement stations encircling ground zero at eight radial distances ranging from 373 to 1,707 meters. The twenty-four sampling lines were spaced at fifteen-degree intervals. Data presented were recovered from stations located at radial dis tances of 640, 853, 1,067, 1,280, and 1,707 meters. An attempt will be made to recover data at stations located closer to ground zero at a later time. Preliminary analysis of ejecta data indicates that a real density varies inversely as distance raised to the 3.64 power. Circumfer ential variation of areal density is about a factor of 30 at the 1,707 meter radial distance, a factor of 10 at the 1,280 meter radial dis tance, and a factor of 7 at the 853 meter radial distance. Book Synopsis Globalization and the Singapore Curriculum by : Zongyi Deng
Download or read book Globalization and the Singapore Curriculum written by Zongyi Deng and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides a multi-faceted and critical analysis of the Singapore curriculum in relation to globalization. First, it details reform initiatives established by the Singapore government to meet the challenges posed by globalization. Next, Globalization and the Singapore Curriculum presents how these reforms have been translated into programs, school subjects and operational frameworks and then examines, in turn, how well these have been implemented in schools and classrooms across the country. Through this examination, the book reveals how the initiatives, together with their curricular translation and classroom enactment, reflect on the one hand global features and tendencies and, on the other, distinct national traditions, concerns and practices. It brings to light a set of issues, problems and challenges that not only concern policymakers, educators and reformers in Singapore but also those in other countries as well. Written by curriculum scholars, policy analysts, researchers and teacher educators, Globalization and the Singapore Curriculum offers an up-to-date reference for postgraduate students, scholars and researchers in the areas of curriculum and instruction, comparative education, educational sociology, educational policy and leadership in Singapore, the Asia Pacific region and beyond. It also offers a vital contribution to the story of modern education around the globe: providing international students, scholars and researchers valuable insights into curriculum and curriculum reform for the 21st century.
Book Synopsis Civil Engineering Hydraulics by : Martin Marriott
Download or read book Civil Engineering Hydraulics written by Martin Marriott and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-07-20 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thorough update of a well-established textbook covers a core subject taught on every civil engineering course. Now expanded to cover environmental hydraulics and engineering hydrology, it has been revised to reflect current practice and course requirements. As previous editions, it includes substantial worked example sections with an on-line solution manual. A strength of the book has always been in its presentation these exercises which has distinguished it from other books on hydraulics, by enabling students to test their understanding of the theory and of the methods of analysis and design. Civil Engineering Hydraulics provides a succinct introduction to the theory of civil engineering hydraulics, together with a large number of worked examples and exercise problems with answers. Each chapter includes a worked example section with solutions; a list of recommended reading; and exercise problems with answers to enable students to assess their understanding. The book will be invaluable throughout a student's entire course – but particularly for first and second year study, and will also be welcomed by practising engineers as a concise reference.
