Il présente par la suite l'ensemble des contaminants qui ont été trouvés dans les eaux souterraines dans les villes de ces pays et dans certaines villes des pays développés. Dans les pays en voie de développement, les pollutions les plus étudiées dans les eaux souterraines sont les polluants organiques et bactériologiques. Les métaux lourds étant les moins étudiés. Bien plus, on a remarqué que les sols et les nappes phréatiques étudiées dans certaines villes étaient fortement polluées par les métaux. Les sources principales de la pollution ont été récapitulées dans cette revue ainsi que les principaux facteurs géochimiques qui influencent le transfert des polluants de la surface des sols à la nappe d'eau souterraine. Les chercheurs devraient intensifier davantage les travaux afin de mieux cerner, comprendre et combattre la pollution de l'eau souterraine.
