This book was released on 1994 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nested-standpipe and vibrating-wire piezometers were installed in Pre-Illinoian Wolf Creek and Albernett formations at the Eastern Iowa Till Hydrology Site located in Linn County, Iowa. These surficial deposits are composed of fine-grained glacial diamicton (till) with occasional discontinuous lenses of sand and silt. They overlie the Silurian (dolomite) aquifer which provides private, public, and municipal drinking water supplies in the region. The saturated hydraulic conductivity of the Wolf Creek Formation was investigated in a sub-area of the Eastern Iowa Till Hydrology Site. Calculations of saturated hydraulic conductivity were based on laboratory flexible-wall permeameter tests, bailer tests, and pumping test data. Results show that bulk hydraulic conductivity increases by several orders of magnitude as the tested volume of till increases. Increasing values of saturated hydraulic conductivity at larger spatial scales conceptually support a double-porosity flow model for this till.

Book Synopsis Method for Coincidentally Determining Soil Hydraulic Conductivity and Moisture Retention Characteristics by : Jonathan Ingersoll
Download or read book Method for Coincidentally Determining Soil Hydraulic Conductivity and Moisture Retention Characteristics written by Jonathan Ingersoll and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A constant-head permeameter has been modified to include the essential components of a Tempe cell moisture extractor. With this equipment, tests for saturated hydraulic conductivity (permeability), unsaturated hydraulic conductivity and moisture retention characteristics of the soil can be conducted using the same soil sample. The procedure can be used for both absorption and desorption phases. Test results from four different soils (a glacial till, a fine sand, a silt and a coarse sand) are presented. The effects of density on hydraulic conductivity and moisture retention characteristics are shown. (Author).

Book Synopsis Hydraulic Conductivity Determinations in Unlithified Glacial and Fluvial Materials by : KR. Bradbury
Download or read book Hydraulic Conductivity Determinations in Unlithified Glacial and Fluvial Materials written by KR. Bradbury and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiences with many measurements of the hydraulic conductivity of unlithified glacial and fluvial materials in Wisconsin suggest that hydraulic conductivity must be viewed in terms of the operational scale of measurement, based on the scale of the problem at hand and the volume of the materials of interest. Frequently, the hydraulic conductivity of a given lithostratigraphic unit appears to increase as the operational scale of measurement increases. In particular, laboratory methods can yield hydraulic conductivities one to two orders of magnitude lower than conductivities determined in field tests on the same materials. The operational scale of most laboratory methods is much smaller than the operational scale of most field problems, and laboratory tests, although often logistically and financially attractive, may be of little value in characterizing the hydraulic conductivity of Pleistocene and recent deposits at working field scales.

Book Synopsis Applied Hydrogeology by : C. W. Fetter
Download or read book Applied Hydrogeology written by C. W. Fetter and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2018-04-23 with total page 620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrogeology’s importance has grown to become an integral part not only of geology curricula, but also those in environmental science and engineering. Applied Hydrogeology serves all these students, presenting the subject’s fundamental concepts in addition to its importance in other disciplines. Fetter skillfully addresses both physical and chemical hydrogeology, highlighting problem solving throughout the book. Case studies, Excel-based projects, and working student versions of software used by groundwater professionals supplement the fourth edition’s insightful explanations and succinct solutions to real-world challenges. Each chapter concludes with example problems, a notation of symbols, and informative analysis. A glossary of hydrogeological terms adds significant value to this comprehensive text. Fetter’s accessible coverage prepares readers for success in their careers well beyond the classroom.
