Download or read book Chapter 38 written by PD. Tennis and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A CHAPTER ON THE CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF hydraulic cements was included in ASTM STP 169C and this chapter is largely similar to that in the previous edition. It provides an overview and introduction to the chemistry of hydraulic cements, which has been, and remains, a fascinating and challenging topic for researchers, engineers and specifiers. Many aspects of hydraulic cement chemistry directly influence cement properties and performance in concrete, and an understanding of the chemistry can provide insight into specification provisions and test methods.

Book Synopsis Cement Based Materials by : Hosam El-Din M. Saleh
Download or read book Cement Based Materials written by Hosam El-Din M. Saleh and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-10-10 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cement-based materials have been used by humans nearly since the dawn of civilization. The Egyptians used lime and gypsum cement to bind their aggregate materials, mud and straw, resulting in bricks that are used for building their famous Egyptian pyramids (between 3000 and 2500 BC). Hydrated cement is a cement material bonded together with water and used for building construction; it is characterized by acceptable chemical, physical, thermal, mechanical, and structural stability. It plays a main role in the creation of vessels for storage, roads to travel on, weather-resistant structure for protection, inert hard stabilizer for hazardous wastes, and so on. Due to the composition of these materials and their advantages, it has been practiced in different applications. Cement is an essential component of making concrete, the single most prevalent building material used worldwide for construction, skyscrapers, highways, tunnels, bridges, hydraulic dams, and railway ties. Besides their numerous desired properties, there are some undesirable features. To overcome these disadvantages, several studies were established to prepare, improve, and evaluate innovative cement-based materials. Despite its oldness and deep research, every year several methods and materials evolve and so do cement technology. This book intends to provide a comprehensive overview on recent advances in the evaluation of these materials.

Book Synopsis Physical and Chemical Properties of Cement and Aggregate in Concrete by : National Research Council (U.S.). Highway Research Board
Download or read book Physical and Chemical Properties of Cement and Aggregate in Concrete written by National Research Council (U.S.). Highway Research Board and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paper 1: The pore-size distribution present in some carbonate rocks was determined as part of an investigation concerned with the properties of aggregate which affect the durability of portland cement concrete. Paper 2: 52 concrete aggregates were evaluated by means of the rapid chemical test for potential alkali-aggregate reactivity and the results generally showed good correlation with the data obtained in the mortar bar tests. Paper 3: It is demonstrated that the types of carbonate aggregate from the cedar valley formation in Iowa which have been classed as acceptable or unacceptable on the basis of service records, can also be differentiated on the basis of their reactivity with silica and/or fluoride in aqueous solution. Paper 4: Mixtures of calcium hydroxide, pozzolan, and water were reacted at 100 F for 1 to 6 months, and the reaction products were examined by x-ray diffraction and thermal analysis.
Book Synopsis Lea's Chemistry of Cement and Concrete by : Peter Hewlett
Download or read book Lea's Chemistry of Cement and Concrete written by Peter Hewlett and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-11-12 with total page 1087 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lea's Chemistry of Cement and Concrete deals with the chemical and physical properties of cements and concretes and their relation to the practical problems that arise in manufacture and use. As such it is addressed not only to the chemist and those concerned with the science and technology of silicate materials, but also to those interested in the use of concrete in building and civil engineering construction. Much attention is given to the suitability of materials, to the conditions under which concrete can excel and those where it may deteriorate and to the precautionary or remedial measures that can be adopted. First published in 1935, this is the fourth edition and the first to appear since the death of Sir Frederick Lea, the original author. Over the life of the first three editions, this book has become the authority on its subject. The fourth edition is edited by Professor Peter C. Hewlett, Director of the British Board of Agrement and visiting Industrial Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Dundee. Professor Hewlett has brought together a distinguished body of international contributors to produce an edition which is a worthy successor to the previous editions.
Book Synopsis Hydraulic Cement by : Frederick P. Spalding
Download or read book Hydraulic Cement written by Frederick P. Spalding and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-13 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hydraulic Cement: Its Properties, Testing, and Use The following pages contain the results of a careful study of the nature and properties of hydraulic cement, and the various methods which have been proposed, or are in use, for testing cement. The subject is not so simple as it might seem to the casual observer, but abounds in contradictions in the results of experiments and conflicts of opinion between authorities, which at times are quite bewildering. The views of the author, as derived from his own observation of the behavior of cement in use or in the laboratory, have been stated without reserve, and free use has been made of the results of available European investigations. The recommendations of the recent com missions appointed in Europe for the study of the methods of testing materials are fully given in so far as they relate to cement.
