Book excerpt: This book is the beginning of a new search, into the unknown of self. I advise caution to the weary and down hearted, for I believe it it is only fair to advise, that if correctly applied, as you read the following material it can be harmful to your perception of reality; it may give rise to emotional distress, disillusionment and mental incoherence. Th is is in essence the design of an emotional mind drug. It is my aim to guide you into a realm where the textures you sense are in truth your own ingredient to what you may see. Life is a structure of orientation; for beneath the inkwells lie the stigmatic abuses of mankind, the places which we alone understand any familiarity. I give you a key unto which the shadows of the labyrinth submit. From the moment you embark you step into the infinite of possibility and dreamless grandeur. You alone guide your destination. It is in your power to fail or prevail, whether by hope or despair. Th ere are two tools to cut upon the girth of the stone, on which you are about to place your signature, for you can never return, your name is purely there for the phantoms to remember you. I present the hammer and the chisel. The hammer represents fact, your experience of reality. Th e chisel is fable-the dreams you must hold as you step beyond your conscious recollections. The stone lies in verse for I believe poetry is truly the gateway to an endless search into the mind of the soul, within the veins of the earth lie trophies and skeletal remains of its dynamic nature. Whence we fl ow where fluids allow, and break into diversion to where the rocks divide our souls...then we begin the search for the labyrinths heart, for few have ventured there, therefore I plead: R e a d i n t o t h e d e p t h s o f y o u r s o u l, R e a d i n t o t h e c o r n e r s o f y o u r m i n d, R e a d i n t o t h e w i n d s o f y o u r s p i r i t, R e a d i n t o t h e l o n g i n g o f y o u r d r e a ms, R e a d a n d k n o w y o u' r e n o t a l o n e .

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forget what you’ve heard. Nice girls can get the corner office. As women, we haven’t always had the best role models at work. We’ve either worked for men or we’ve had female bosses who are, well, big bitches. Woman still don’t have much of a road map right now when it comes to taking charge at the office, so the team who brought you the national bestseller The Girl’s Guide to Starting Your Own Business is drawing one for us. Caitlin Friedman and Kimberly Yorio will teach you to be powerful without being possessive, to be opinionated without being brassy, and to have a strong voice without micromanaging. You’ll learn just how to own the role of queen bee in a positive way so that you can be more mentor than manager, one who leads, inspires, and motivates. So, you finally got that promotion. You’re the boss now. The supervisor. The manager. The captain. The taskmaster. Those days of taking orders, running errands, and clock-watching are over. As exciting as all this might seem, once the rush of the promotion is over, you might be scratching your head wondering exactly what to do. Being the boss is never easy, but it's twice as hard for a woman. It seems like there's no middle ground. Either you're the dragon lady who rules with an iron fist or the mousey girl who gets drowned out at every meeting. When a woman wields authority and dares to make tough decisions, how often is the "B-word" bandied about by her employees? How can she strike that balance between pushover and dictator? Fear not. You can do the job. All you need is a little helpful advice to send you on your way. Whether you supervise two as a shift manager or lord over an entire corporate empire, Caitlin Friedman and Kim Yorio will show you how to step gracefully into your new position of power. They’ll teach you how to motivate your team without alienating them, how to delegate without feeling guilty, how to deal with office politics and how to handle evaluations, promotions, and even firings. And for those of you who are already running the show, they can help you become the mentor your employees deserve. Inside, there are self-assessment questionnaires to help you find out where you land on the bitch or wimp scale; interviews with prominent female bosses, human-resources directors, and therapists; and advice from a whole host of experts. In addition, there are funny and informative checklists and tips to make sure you’re the Good Witch around the office and not the Big Bitch. And, most important, Caitlin and Kim will teach you the secrets to owning your role and loving it. You’ve earned your promotion, so enjoy it!

Book excerpt: The contents of this book are a compilation of short commentaries about politics and life in general. These commentaries are presented in chronological order, beginning with the latest (August 2010), and ending with the earliest (June 2008). The objective of the commentaries is to foster a new awareness for the reader by being exposed to new and different ways of looking at and understanding some of the things that affect us all everyday. At the very least, the views, opinions and ideas presented herein should be a refreshing departure from the fare offered by the mass media and their established "talking heads and columnists." It is the opinion of the author that the mass media commentary we all are subjected to on a daily basis is not necessarily relevant to the large majority of citizens because they are made by those who rarely share the same stress of living that most of us do in our everyday lives. So, it is the sincere aspiration of the author that a new awareness and perspective about politics and life in general will result upon reading these humble offerings. Ronald L Clark was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and is the father of four children. Most of his professional years have been involved in design engineering for the United States Navy. He is the holder of a number of patents and was the Science and Technology leader at the Naval Air Warfare Center that featured a technical career that highlights system engineering as the most rewarding of his technical endeavors. He is an avid sailor and still enjoys hitting the links when the sun is shining brightly.
