As we leave the 2nd Industrial Revolution, we are entering the 3rd Industrial Revolution, which is characterised as 'the information society and network age'. In this time of transition, in some countries, human resource is often seen as software that can be amended at relative ease in order to achieve the optimum cost, whereas other countries theorize that it resembles more of a piece of hardware that cannot be upgraded but only replaced. These aspects are covered in this book, and addressed through research by the authors in individual subject areas.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation is devoted to attitudes of consumers toward luxury in two agricultural markets, horse sports and foods. Literature postulates a change of perceived luxury definitions and motives for luxury consumption. Accordingly, personally-oriented luxury consumption has gained significance while socially-oriented motives have been pushed into the background. Based on this, the following studies were aimed to reveal how far it has affected the consumer behavior in both agricultural markets. The research results are used to define the target groups for different kinds of luxury marketing and to give recommendations for the design of accordant marketing strategies. The studies provide empirical evidence for the existence of a shift of motives for luxury consumption and luxury definitions away from prestige and conspicuousness toward self-realization, hedonism, intangible values, functionality, sustainability and authenticity. Moreover, the results imply that luxury consumption can be categorized in tangible luxury goods and luxury experience. Despite intersections by means of hedonism and self-realization, the studies revealed differences in the consumption motives for both categories of luxury.

Book excerpt: The Employability Market Orientation (EMO) model, which is more extensive than traditional approaches in the field of personal marketing, along with a questionnaire for its measurement, makes the employee "anti-fragile" behaving as a micro-entrepreneur (workpreneur). It achieves high levels of employability and marketability and low job insecurity. This attitude has consequences for employers such as low employee loyalty and commitment. Thus, HR specialists will be able to develop adequate solutions and methods reducing the effects of retention. The EMO questionnaire contained in the book will allow them to diagnose such attitudes. This book guides readers through the world of the rules of the contemporary labor market with the end of life-long employment, encouraging to have a proactive attitude by both the employee and the employer. Its originality lies in the fact that it focuses on employees who can be adopted, not being victims of flexible human resource management. It is written in an objective manner, supported by reliable research with advanced statistical analysis, and will be of value to researchers of management, the labor market, career counselling, sociologists and work psychologists. Proposed indicators of often imprecise concepts such as mobility and professional flexibility are explored. These concepts will help scholars to conduct research on new phenomena and develop theories of modern organization with disappearing borders and transactional relations.

Book excerpt: It is difficult to overstate the importance of China to the world economy, and yet the majority of books either look at Chinese business by applying Western frameworks or models to the context of China or focus on a particular aspect of business in China. Authored by an academic expert on China, this new, completely revised edition of Chinese Business offers its readers a comprehensive and systematic body of knowledge of Chinese business. It has taken a holistic perspective, intending to achieve a balance between the academic and practical, between theory and practice and between traditional and current (Internet-based) industry. The framework of this book subsumes all the major factors that should be taken into consideration when Western companies contemplate a China strategy, including history, philosophy, ancient military classics, strategy and marketing, innovation, Internet business and human resources. The discussion of these factors is supplemented with insightful case studies. Chinese Business, Second Edition, can be used as a textbook for undergraduates and postgraduates at business schools and as a useful reference for researchers, senior executives, consultants and government officials involved in Chinese business.
