Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Next Generation INDIE Book Awards Grand Prize Winner, Best Non-Fiction Book in 2017; and Winner in the Science/Nature/Environment category Finalist for Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards in Ecology and Environment In this book, Lowell E. Baier, one of America’s preeminent experts on environmental litigation, chronicles the century-long story of Americas’ resources management, focusing on litigations, citizen suit provisions, and attorneys’ fees. He provides the first book-length comprehensive examination of the little-known Equal Access to Justice Act (EAJA) and its role in environmental litigation. Originally intended to support veterans, the disabled and small business, EAJA, Baier argues, now paralyzes America’s public land management agencies. Baier introduces readers to the history of EAJA, examines the many beneficiaries of the law, describes in depth 20 of the most prominent litigious environmental groups in America, and recommends carefully tailored amendments to the EAJA to correct environmental abuses of the law while protecting legitimate interests. Inside the Equal Access to Justice Act will be a valuable resource for the environmental legal community, environmentalists, practitioners at all levels of government, and all readers interested in environmental policy and the rise of the administrative state.

Book excerpt: Modeling and Simulation in Python teaches readers how to analyze real-world scenarios using the Python programming language, requiring no more than a background in high school math. Modeling and Simulation in Python is a thorough but easy-to-follow introduction to physical modeling—that is, the art of describing and simulating real-world systems. Readers are guided through modeling things like world population growth, infectious disease, bungee jumping, baseball flight trajectories, celestial mechanics, and more while simultaneously developing a strong understanding of fundamental programming concepts like loops, vectors, and functions. Clear and concise, with a focus on learning by doing, the author spares the reader abstract, theoretical complexities and gets right to hands-on examples that show how to produce useful models and simulations.
Book Synopsis Scholarship Reconsidered by : Ernest L. Boyer
Download or read book Scholarship Reconsidered written by Ernest L. Boyer and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-10-06 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shifting faculty roles in a changing landscape Ernest L. Boyer's landmark book Scholarship Reconsidered: Priorities of the Professoriate challenged the publish-or-perish status quo that dominated the academic landscape for generations. His powerful and enduring argument for a new approach to faculty roles and rewards continues to play a significant part of the national conversation on scholarship in the academy. Though steeped in tradition, the role of faculty in the academic world has shifted significantly in recent decades. The rise of the non-tenure-track class of professors is well documented. If the historic rule of promotion and tenure is waning, what role can scholarship play in a fragmented, unbundled academy? Boyer offers a still much-needed approach. He calls for a broadened view of scholarship, audaciously refocusing its gaze from the tenure file and to a wider community. This expanded edition offers, in addition to the original text, a critical introduction that explores the impact of Boyer's views, a call to action for applying Boyer's message to the changing nature of faculty work, and a discussion guide to help readers start a new conversation about how Scholarship Reconsidered applies today.

Book Synopsis The Easy Dictionary of the Qur'an by : Shaikh AbdulKarim Parekh
Download or read book The Easy Dictionary of the Qur'an written by Shaikh AbdulKarim Parekh and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-07 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a great favor of Allah that many Muslims are nowadays more inclined to read and understand the Holy Qur'an. Alhamdulillah, the number of such people is increasing. In order to encourage as well as help such readers of the Holy Qur'an, I compiled the difficult words of the Qur'an in the form of a book in Urdu, titled Aasaan Lughatul Qur'an (Easy Dictionary of Qur'an) and published it as a dictionary way back in 1952. In this dictionary, words were placed in order of their occurence in the Surahs of the Qur'an, avoiding those words which were repeated. For example, the words Alif-Laam-Meem of Surah al-Baqarah come first and those of Surah aale-Imran come next, and so on.

Book excerpt: He's a bear. She's a wolf. They shouldn't be together, but they can't be apart. Rowan needs some time away from the pressures of being an alpha and a weekend trip to Seattle. He needs to produce his heir, and his mother is convinced he needs to find his mate as soon as possible. At a small dive bar, he meets Holly, a petite, green-eyed force of nature. Holly just happens to be a wolf shifter. She's been dragged to the city by her alpha father to be matched with the son of a neighboring pack's alpha. Against the odds, the Rowan and Holly hit it off, and they come up with a plan. Holly needs to get away from her pack, and Rowan needs a mate. Why not kill two birds with one stone and have Holly go back with Rowan, posing as his mate? It'll work for a while at least. Or that's what they think. Their plan begins to unravel when it turns out they're a lot more than friends. In fact, they've been meant for one another all along, despite the fact that this is unheard of between a wolf and a bear. Will the star-crossed lovers overcome the odds against them?
