Book excerpt: On the tenth anniversary of a series of unsolved murders, the Five Point Killer is back for blood—and retired cop Arn Anderson could be the next investigator who gets too close to the truth. Retired detective Arn Anderson never thought he'd be broke enough to take on a cold murder case. Or desperate enough to team up with a TV reporter. Or pathetic enough to go back to his rundown childhood home after he swore he'd left Cheyenne for good. But here he is, hunting a serial killer who also appears to have come out of retirement. On the anniversary of the Five Point Killer's crimes, Arn's only option is to survive the carnage of a murderer who may be too twisted—and too brilliant—to catch. Praise: "A slow-burning cold case with copious clues, conscientious detection, a high body count, periodic interruptions from the killer's viewpoint, and all the pages and pages of unraveling you'd expect from such a generously plotted mystery."—Kirkus Reviews "A terrific debut...Wendelboe is a skilled writer who ratchets up the suspense.—Margaret Coel, New York Times bestselling author of Winter's Child

Download or read book How to Survive Puberty at 25 written by Nina Bhadreshwar and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where do international adventures begin? Well, this one begins in the head of an imaginative mixed-race British girl who grows to be a frustrated journalist in recession-hit, racist Britain in the 1990s. Real Live Gangster is the true story of Nina Bhadreshwar, the British editor of the Real State magazine, later recruited by Death Row Records, the infamous LA-based record label that forever changed the music industry and not a few lives. An anorexic depressive, fed up of UK prejudice, Nina sets up her own magazine, the Real State, on her quest for "the real" in 1992. Finding a fellow seeker in Tupac Shakur during one of her graffiti missions to New York, they start a pen-friendship while her magazine is picked up by several international distributors. Decamping to Watts, South Los Angeles, just after the riots, her world is blown wide open by the injustice she witnesses. Her own delayed puberty kicks in, and with it, come the opportunities. Recruited by Westwood-based Death Row Records to help launch its own cultural magazine, Death Row Uncut, the mute British girl soon becomes one of the family and its voice and writer. But just as the dreams become reality, the cataclysm hits. This is the chronicle of the real—no more, no less—as told by a participator, not a theorist or a spectator.
Book Synopsis Forensic Medicine and Death Investigation in Medieval England by : Sara M. Butler
Download or read book Forensic Medicine and Death Investigation in Medieval England written by Sara M. Butler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-08-21 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: England has traditionally been understood as a latecomer to the use of forensic medicine in death investigation, lagging nearly two-hundred years behind other European authorities. Using the coroner's inquest as a lens, this book hopes to offer a fresh perspective on the process of death investigation in medieval England. The central premise of this book is that medical practitioners did participate in death investigation – although not in every inquest, or even most, and not necessarily in those investigations where we today would deem their advice most pertinent. The medieval relationship with death and disease, in particular, shaped coroners' and their jurors' understanding of the inquest's medical needs and led them to conclusions that can only be understood in context of the medieval world's holistic approach to health and medicine. Moreover, while the English resisted Southern Europe's penchant for autopsies, at times their findings reveal a solid understanding of internal medicine. By studying cause of death in the coroners' reports, this study sheds new light on subjects such as abortion by assault, bubonic plague, cruentation, epilepsy, insanity, senescence, and unnatural death.
Book Synopsis Crucial Errors in Murder Investigations by : Ted Duhs
Download or read book Crucial Errors in Murder Investigations written by Ted Duhs and published by Boolarong Press. This book was released on 2016-08-29 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why is it that some people are convicted of murders that they did not commit, while others are not convicted of murders that they did commit? Australian Police Services are generally well funded, so something more must be involved. Just what that is, is investigated in this book. To minimise the prospect of future errors, we need both to scrutinise past cases where errors have been revealed, and to investigate police training procedures with a view to uncovering any errors of omission or commission, to see what scope there is for improvements. Each of us has good reason to take an interest in such matters, since any one of us could be a victim if we are in the wrong place at the wrong time. In fact all of us are victims to the extent that some guilty parties continue to walk free on our streets, and as taxpayers all of us fund the additional costs of dealing with crime, including the sizeable compensation payments that are made to those whose wrongful convictions are quashed. This book deals with instructive cases which continue to agitate the public mind, and makes practical suggestions for improved procedures.

So when he learns he's inherited both a failing bookstore and a falling-down mansion in the quaint seaside village of Pirate's Cove on Buck Island, Rhode Island, it's full steam ahead! Sure enough, the village is charming, its residents amusingly eccentric, and widowed police chief Jack Carson is decidedly yummy (though probably as straight as he is stern). However, the bookstore is failing, the mansion is falling down, and there's that little drawback of finding rival bookseller--and head of the unwelcoming-committee--Trevor Maples dead during the annual Buccaneer Days celebration. Still, it could be worse. And once Police Chief Carson learns Trevor was killed with the cutlass hanging over the door of Ellery's bookstore, it is.

Download or read book The Tattoo Murder Case written by Akimitsu Takagi and published by Soho Press. This book was released on 2003-07-01 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of Japan’s most popular mystery writers delivers “scenes of fastidiously executed decadence” in a “tale of sexual obsession” (The New York Times Book Review). Kinue Nomura survived World War II only to be murdered in Tokyo, her severed limbs discovered in a room locked from the inside. Gone is the part of her that bore one of the most beautiful full-body tattoos ever rendered. Kenzo Matsushita, a young doctor who was first to discover the crime scene, feels compelled to assist his detective brother, who is in charge of the case. But Kenzo has a secret: he was Kinue’s lover, and soon his involvement in the investigation becomes as twisted and complex as the writhing snakes that once adorned Kinue’s torso. The Tattoo Murder Case was originally published in 1948; this is the first English translation. “Clever, kinky, highly entertaining.” —The Washington Post Book World “A delightful, different book, not only because of its unusual setting and premise, but because Takagi is a powerful plotter and constructor of fascinating, complex characters.” —The A.V. Club “Has all the mind-boggling braininess and dazzling artifice of mystery’s Golden Age, spiced with voyeuristic close-ups of a dying art in which postwar Japan remains supreme: full-body tattoos . . . Intricate, fantastic, and utterly absorbing. More, please.” —Kirkus Reviews

Book Synopsis Death Investigation by : Ann Bucholtz

Written for a criminal justice audience by a practicing forensic pathologist and educator, Death Investigation makes challenging forensics concepts accessible to nonscientists.
Download or read book Dead Wrong written by Randall Sullivan and published by Atlantic Monthly Press. This book was released on 2019-06-18 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of LAbyrinth exposes the cover-up surrounding Biggie Smalls’ murder with exclusive material from the FBI and his estate’s wrongful death suit. In his 2002 book LAbyrinth, acclaimed music journalist Randall Sullivan revealed the story of “gangsta cops” tied to Marion “Suge” Knight’s rap label, Death Row Records—and allegedly to the murders of Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. Now in Dead Wrong, Sullivan chronicles more than a decade in the B.I.G. investigations, and uncovers the conspiracy of silence blocking the wrongful death suit against the City. In 2001, an eyewitness identified the man who shot Biggie as Amir Muhammad, a former college roommate of LAPD officer, Death Row associate, and convicted bank robber David Mack. Yet LAPD Detective Russell Poole found his investigation repeatedly directed away from Mack and Muhammad. Biggie’s estate then sued the city to find out why. But instead, investigators encountered a disturbing pattern of selective investigation, hidden evidence, and possible witness tampering. Exclusive interviews with the FBI’s lead investigator of the Biggie murder demonstrate a conspiracy that went to the top, and which implicates some of the most powerful men in law enforcement nationally. Dead Wrong is a gripping investigation into murder, police corruption, and the corridors of power in Los Angeles.
