Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written for the sole purpose of helping others avoid the many pitfalls of choosing a roommate. Our intent and feelings are generally good when we decide to take on a roommate. All the variances of why we are making this decision differ from one person to the next. It could help you financially, or just as well help a friend, acquaintance, or family member in need. There are more of us than you realize that needs a constant companion, and does not like to be alone. For most of files decisions, there is usually a price to pay. Some prices are great and works out for you, and some not so much. The not so much are the ones we tremendously pay for, and that's where my book comes in. There are so many ways to help others. Giving money, clothing, volunteering, donating food, visiting hospitals, and the list goes on. My way is to give strong advice on what and what not to do in life and the decisions we make. Put into focus that your current roommate just packed up and left, said, "I am moving back home." You're stuck in a twelve-month lease with eight months remaining. One job, school supplies, car, and insurance payments, groceries, utilities, and now the full amount of rent is on you. You ask around, no luck. You post sticky notes on the college boards as well as placing ads online. Then bingo, you get a response. They said they have a full-time job, are clean, father is a police officer, mom is a school teacher, and you say, "Great, my problem is solved." They give you the first month's rent and move in. You are quiet, an introvert, reserved, respectable, and tidy. The next month, the place starts to build up trash inside, more traffic in and out of the residence, personal items start missing, more and more loud music, you come home and someone is laying in your bed. You have a talk with your roommate about all the issues at hand, but they have a right to do as they please because it's fifty-fifty, so what do you do? It's unfortunate, but some are now deceased from not taking the wise first step and just went with the "I-need-it-now" mentality. There are certain things in life that are just unavoidable, but taking a step in the right direction from the start would be smart and wise.

Once she learns how Josh has made a name for himself, Clara realises living with him might destroy the reputation she's spent years building. But while they may not agree on much, both Josh and Clara believe women deserve better sex. Rosie Graham has a problem. A few, actually. She just quit her well paid job to focus on her secret career as a romance writer. She hasn’t told her family and now has terrible writer’s block. Then, the ceiling of her New York apartment literally crumbles on her. Luckily she has her best friend Lina’s spare key while she’s out of town. But Rosie doesn’t know that Lina has already lent her apartment to her cousin Lucas, who Rosie has been stalking—for lack of a better word—on Instagram for the last few months. Lucas seems intent on coming to her rescue like a Spanish knight in shining armor. Only this one strolls around the place in a towel, has a distracting grin, and an irresistible accent. Oh, and he cooks. Lucas offers to let Rosie stay with him, at least until she can find some affordable temporary housing. And then he proposes an outrageous experiment to bring back her literary muse and meet her deadline: He’ll take her on a series of experimental dates meant to jump-start her romantic inspiration. Rosie has nothing to lose. Her silly, online crush is totally under control—but Lucas’s time in New York has an expiration date, and six weeks may not be enough, for either her or her deadline.

Book excerpt: Wanted: One roommate to share a 3-bedroom house, split the rent, and ideally not be the guy I can’t stop thinking about. I’m a man with too many secrets, so the last thing I need is a new roommate with a sexy smile and blue eyes that see right through me. Eight years ago, Roderick left town after high school. We’re not friends. I owe him nothing. But back then, I let one of my secrets slip, and he’s the only one who noticed. Part of me knows I should run far, far away. But the other part wants him to come upstairs and spend the night. But if I let him in, I could lose everything. Seeking: a room to rent in town. I’m tidy, have no pets, and I will feed you homemade bread. I should probably add: Gay AF, and has no filter. It’s no wonder my new landlord is so wary of me. A smarter man would ignore those hot glances from Kieran Shipley. The broody lumberjack wants more from me than another homemade pretzel, but if I push my luck, I’ll end up back on the street. Too bad I’ve never been smart with my heart… Passionate, sexy, and emotional, Roommate brings all the feels and all the delicious heat! First time I see Colin wandering around the house shirtless, I realize the view has come to me. First time Tanner offers me an entirely different type of vacation—the no-clothes-horizontal-grind kind—I almost cave. But I can't hook up with a man almost a decade younger than me, and definitely not two of them. Can I?

Download or read book Living on Campus written by Carla Yanni and published by U of Minnesota Press. This book was released on 2019-04-02 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An exploration of the architecture of dormitories that exposes deeply held American beliefs about education, youth, and citizenship Every fall on move-in day, parents tearfully bid farewell to their beloved sons and daughters at college dormitories: it is an age-old ritual. The residence hall has come to mark the threshold between childhood and adulthood, housing young people during a transformational time in their lives. Whether a Gothic stone pile, a quaint Colonial box, or a concrete slab, the dormitory is decidedly unhomelike, yet it takes center stage in the dramatic arc of many American families. This richly illustrated book examines the architecture of dormitories in the United States from the eighteenth century to 1968, asking fundamental questions: Why have American educators believed for so long that housing students is essential to educating them? And how has architecture validated that idea? Living on Campus is the first architectural history of this critical building type. Grounded in extensive archival research, Carla Yanni’s study highlights the opinions of architects, professors, and deans, and also includes the voices of students. For centuries, academic leaders in the United States asserted that on-campus living enhanced the moral character of youth; that somewhat dubious claim nonetheless influenced the design and planning of these ubiquitous yet often overlooked campus buildings. Through nuanced architectural analysis and detailed social history, Yanni offers unexpected glimpses into the past: double-loaded corridors (which made surveillance easy but echoed with noise), staircase plans (which prevented roughhousing but offered no communal space), lavish lounges in women’s halls (intended to civilize male visitors), specially designed upholstered benches for courting couples, mixed-gender saunas for students in the radical 1960s, and lazy rivers for the twenty-first century’s stressed-out undergraduates. Against the backdrop of sweeping societal changes, communal living endured because it bolstered networking, if not studying. Housing policies often enabled discrimination according to class, race, and gender, despite the fact that deans envisioned the residence hall as a democratic alternative to the elitist fraternity. Yanni focuses on the dormitory as a place of exclusion as much as a site of fellowship, and considers the uncertain future of residence halls in the age of distance learning.
Book Synopsis My Brother's Roommate by : Kendall Ryan
Download or read book My Brother's Roommate written by Kendall Ryan and published by Kendall Ryan. This book was released on 2020-12-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sexy new brother's best friend romance from New York Times bestselling author Kendall Ryan. There are a few things you should know about my brother’s roommate. Wolfie Cox is . . . complicated. And incredibly sexy. Unfortunately, he has an impressive stick lodged so far up his ass, he’s about as emotionally available as a chinchilla. Actually, that might be an insult to the chinchilla community. So, naturally, I want to ride him like a bicycle. He thinks I hate him. Mostly because I’ve led him to believe this. It’s easier than admitting the truth. And while Wolfie is about as soft and cuddly as a fork, I’m the opposite. A good girl. Reliable. Conscientious. Oh, and completely panicked about an upcoming work conference. Wolfie’s usually allergic to altruism, so when my brother convinces him to help me out by escorting me to said conference where everyone else will have a plus-one . . . I say thanks, but no thanks. Surprisingly, Wolfie is unflinching about this. And that’s the story about how I got stuck in a hotel room with my brother’s hot (grouchy) roommate. Thank you for coming to my TED talk. In all seriousness, this isn’t a game to me, and hormones aside, I need to impress my boss this week so the promotion I’ve worked hard for doesn’t get handed to his worthless nephew. But with Wolfie and me sharing a hotel bed, things get confusing quickly. This is book two in the Frisky Business series, but each book can be read as a complete standalone.
