Book excerpt: Imagine waking up every day with the freedom to decide where you want to travel to, and how much you want to work the next week. Imagine making six-figures a MONTH, rather than a YEAR. Well, what if I told you you could be making $2,000 extra each month within 30 days? You'd think I was some kind of scam artist, right? I've read over 100 books on online money making and freelancing in the last two years alone. I've also interviewed dozens of experts who agreed to speak to me about the topic and how they got to where they are today. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I have some magic ability for getting people to make money online and start working remotely. It's just that I know one thing lots of other people don't: It's all about mindset. Top freelancers, remote workers and location independent entrepreneurs are willing to take risks, learn new skills, and sell solutions that customers really want. They don't care if they have credentials. They don't care if they've done this before. They don't even care if they have the necessary skills (yet). The bottom line? They shift their frame of mind away from the self and concentrate on what people out in the market are saying they want.

New digital, online, and social tools have the ability to transform the classroom and engage learners like never before. In the midst of this technological revolution, it is crucial for educators and administrators to be able to gauge the impact of digital tools on learners in a variety of settings. Measuring and Analyzing Informal Learning in the Digital Age addresses the need for educators, administrators, and professionals across industries to be more attentive to the learning process outside of a traditional classroom setting. As online learning, and MOOCs in particular, become more mainstream, tracking informal learning becomes difficult despite the necessity of feedback and measurement in non-formal learning environments. Investigating some of the primary technologies being used in educational settings and how a less structured and more open learning environment can effectively motivate students and non-traditional learners, this premier reference is a crucial source of information for educators, administrators, theorists, and other professionals in the field of education.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Terror Capitalism anthropologist Darren Byler theorizes the contemporary Chinese colonization of the Uyghur Muslim minority group in the northwest autonomous region of Xinjiang. He shows that the mass detention of over one million Uyghurs in “reeducation camps” is part of processes of resource extraction in Uyghur lands that have led to what he calls terror capitalism—a configuration of ethnoracialization, surveillance, and mass detention that in this case promotes settler colonialism. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork in the regional capital Ürümchi, Byler shows how media infrastructures, the state’s enforcement of “Chinese” cultural values, and the influx of Han Chinese settlers contribute to Uyghur dispossession and their expulsion from the city. He particularly attends to the experiences of young Uyghur men—who are the primary target of state violence—and how they develop masculinities and homosocial friendships to protect themselves against gendered, ethnoracial, and economic violence. By tracing the political and economic stakes of Uyghur colonization, Byler demonstrates that state-directed capitalist dispossession is coconstructed with a colonial relation of domination.
