Asthmatic attacks, in some cases, are triggered by eating certain food substances. So, having knowledge of what to eat and what to skip can actually decrease the frequency of asthmatic attacks. Section one - Asthma - an overview Asthma - What is Asthma? Asthma is a common health condition related to an immune reaction taking place in the respiratory track. It's a breathing disorder characterized by several symptoms like air way obstruction, difficulty in breathing, tightness of chest, coughing and wheezing. For most of the people asthma is not a big problem. But, in reality it can cause serious hindrance in performing routine activities. If it goes untreated, it can produce serious and life threatening conditions. Asthma is an immune reaction triggered when the respiratory track is exposed to certain irritating stimuli. Human body has got a strong immune system which protects it from the harmful effects of foreign substances like chemicals, pollutants and organisms like bacteria and viruses. An important component of this immune system is "mast cells". These cells respond to the presence of certain "antigens" and release several mediators of inflammation, in the presence of these antigens. For example, if these cells are exposed to the smoke of cigarette, they'll release several chemicals which, in turn, will start a cascade of events leading to the development of symptoms of inflammation. These mediators cause spasm in the muscles of respiratory track, increase the production of mucus and make the respiration difficult. Asthma is a combination of several environmental and genetic factors.

Book excerpt: Table of Contents Introduction Main Visible Symptoms of Asthma The Immunotherapy Scam Some Helpful Tips Conclusion Try Alternative Medicine Remedies Author Bio Publisher Introduction A couple of months ago I wrote a book about how to cure asthma naturally and I decided to extend that knowledge again, in another book, because of the number of asthma cases increasing day by day. Believe it or not, the percentage of asthma patients, and people suffering from chest infections and problems have gone up by 3% in the past 5 years, and this situation is going to worsen, due to their lifestyles, and the environments in which they live. Once upon a time, a person suffering from asthma said, thank God it is winter, and I do not have to worry an asthma attack, brought about through dust and allergy and pollen grains. That is not the case now. You may find yourself coming down with an asthmatic attack, in any season, anywhere in the world, thanks to the pollution in the air and water, through emissions from industries, vehicles and other natural and human made sources. Coupled with the greenhouse effect, which prevents this particular ever-growing and unprecedented sheer volume and mass of pollution from disappearing up into space, far away from our nose and lungs, is it a surprise that people who did not know about asthma 30 years ago suddenly find themselves whooping and wheezing for air, because their air passages have been blocked? Once upon a time, wintertime was very pleasant, because of the fresh air, but alas, now the cold prevents the process of dispersal of all those particles of toxic dust, hanging in a black gloomy pall of pollution, over our heads and over our cities. And once when we breathed fresh crisp winter air, today, just take in a deep breath, and what enters your lungs? Chemical toxins and dust and other such undesirable things, of which human beings had not thought half a century ago. Forget about the poor asthmatics. Just think about what the effect it can have on a healthy human being with a hitherto healthy chest and lungs system. Asthma is a more common condition than you would believe. This condition affects the lungs, and makes breathing difficult. For people who have never come across such an ailment before, it can be very terrifying, especially when they feel totally helpless when confronted with an asthma patient for the first time.

In recorded history, rye was first grown in Germany, back in 400BC; this is not that long ago, considering wheat was being grown in Jordan as far back as 7500 BC! Rye is believed to have been originated from a class of Asian wild grass found in Iran, Armenia and Syria. The Roman philosopher and author, Pliny the Elder stated that rye was a food that wasn’t consumed until every other food item had been exhausted. Despite its ruggedness, rye slowly started gaining importance in Scandinavian and Eastern European cultures, and now, science has discovered that rye is a very nutritious cereal that can keep the body fit. More and more people are getting excited about this crop and are now looking for ways to incorporate it into their diet. This book comprehensively explains every aspect of rye & how it benefits the body.

Green tea comes in this category. A majority of us cannot do without the cup that cheers, early in the morning. Sometimes we may even find ourselves addicted to our cup of hearty java, first thing in the morning before we can wake up completely. But since ancient times, green tea has been such a major part of the lives of people who are very careful about their health, that it is no wonder that it is one of the most popular of natural healthy drinks going in the world today. The ancient Chinese preferred going without food rather than forfeit their cup of refreshing “Cha”. That is because tea was such a major part of Chinese culture in ancient times, that tea drinking ceremonies which were then adapted by Japan, were a major part of the social fabric. Even today, there are exotic teas which are going for thousands of dollars on the auction table, because they are considered to be such rare, distinguished and exotic beverages. Of the three major beverages of the world, tea is definitely the most popular. “Cha” is a word which is recognized all over the world, especially when one demands something refreshing to drink after a hard days’ work at the office or sitting doing that hard days’ work in the office. History of Tea Historically, tea has been assimilated in the social fabric for millenniums. Serendipity has a great hand in the knowledge of tea, like that of coffee. Coffee was supposedly found by a shepherd who had seen his goats eating some berries off a bush and then acting in a very enthusiastic and frisky manner. In the same way tea was supposedly discovered by a Chinese Emperor more than 3000 years ago. He was sitting in his garden and a few leaves of a fragrant camellia bush accidentally fell into a cauldron of boiling water in the vicinity. The resulting fragrance tempted the Emperor to sip this refreshing brew. And soon everybody in China was steeping the leaves of the Camellia in hot water and drinking the resulting infusion down. It was only later that the proper preparation of tea, in the form of drying the leaves, fermentation, oxidization and other tea preparation methods before it was packaged and sold to the consumers, became known globally down the ages. The Camellia sinensis plant is normally used for the preparation of green tea. The tea available in the market is normally found in 3 forms – black tea, green tea and oolong tea. All these teas are made through different phases of drying and intensity of the fermentation process. About 3 billion kgs of tea are consumed all over the world annually, of which the major tea drinkers are the Chinese, Japanese, Indians, which come up to 43% of the world population of tea drinkers. In ancient Eastern medicine, tea has been used as a relaxant, and healing drink. According to the Chinese, drinking lots of tea meant that you would not suffer from stomach problems, headaches, nervous tension, and any other disease, of which you could think. For the last 4000 years, tea has been an important ingredient used to cure people in alternative medicines in the East.

Potato Salad Potato Salad Dressing Traditional Mayonnaise Conclusion Author Bio Publisher Introduction Knowing what to cook was as important as knowing how to cook, for grandma. She also learned how to make the best of whatever was in front of her, from her grandmother, and so on for centuries. Millenniums ago, her ancestors when gathering in the woods for herbs and vegetables while the menfolk of the family trapped and hunted for meat, game and anything else edible and delicious. It was then grandma’s many times great-grandmother’s job to make all these ingredients into something delicious and healthy as well as palatable and nourishing. So she used her instinct and her creativity to make delicacies with the ingredients available at hand. Although science-fiction already has stories about scientists making complete little nutritional packages in the shape of pills that are going to take the shape of food in the coming centuries, we are very fortunate that we do not have to face that sort of blandness in our meals today. We still have the good fortune of going to the nearest market or the nearest organic garden and collecting fresh greens, as well as herbs. We have plenty of fresh meat at hand. And best of all, we have all the ingredients to make good wholesome food. We only hope, judging by the pleasure most of us get from eating, the preparation, cooking and serving of this nutritious food is going to be a human activity which is going to be around for a long time. But most of us cannot afford to have some of the more exotic ingredients, of which we dream. Either they are not available to us in our city. Or perhaps they are beyond our budget. Unfortunately, for a large percentage of people all over the world, budget constraints are the reason why they have to make do with makeshift meals instead of eating what nature intended for them – good wholesome, natural ingredients. Grandma was a frugal person. She lived in a time when the dollars earned by grandpa had to be stretched in such a manner that the whole family could be fed and fed well. Times changed and times of prosperity came along, and the eating habits of the whole family changed. Instead of two or three healthy meals in a day, there was food aplenty and the whole family could now afford to eat whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted, and in large quantities. This naturally gave rise to problems including obesity. Also, by not regulating the meal intake as well as the quality of the meals, the quality of the general health of grandma’s children deteriorated as time went by. However, the circle of financial constraints has gone and come around again and the time for tightening belts and looking at our budgets has become the top priority. A majority of us all over the world again are looking for ways and means in which we can get the proper nutrition in the form of proteins, vitamins, minerals and energy, which our bodies required to keep functioning in a healthy manner.

Preparing Ducklings Ducks and Water Feeding Your Ducks. Layers Mash for Ducks What is Grass Meal? What is Bean Meal? Drinking Water Conclusion Author Bio Introduction It must have been somewhere, and some time millenniums ago, when man found that the Mallard and Muscovy that he hunted in the marshes, and brought home to his family was a bird which could be domesticated. One is not very certain about which particular civilization decided that duck brought up in your own farmyard, was a good source of eating for the whole family. Roast duck, broiled duck, duck with seasonings and herbs, even wild duck, along with their cousins, the geese and the swans made excellent fare especially during times, when other food resources were not so easily available. Geese and swans are definitely not considered ducks, though they belong to the same family. The original ancestral species is the same, even though the characteristics differ. Geese and swans are larger in size and can be found in seawater, as well as in freshwater. Ducks are smaller in size, but prefer freshwater habitats. In the same manner, you should not confuse ducks with other aquatic birds like divers, coots and grebes. All of them are good eating, but they are unrelated, except for their liking for water. Apart from the meat content and eggs, ducks have also been reared for their soft down. Drakes are larger in size, when compared to the female ducks. Some of the popular species are Muscovy ducks, Mallards Paradise Shelduck and Aylesbury . The bills are long, broad and sometimes, they are serrated so that the ducks can feed on easily filtered aquatic plant and animal species. A duck shoot has always been a popular occupation of people who enjoy hunting for gain, especially when you are shooting these birds on the wing. A duck cannot fly when it is molting, and it normally molts before the duck group’s migration to a warmer climate.

Book excerpt: In the United States, some populations suffer from far greater disparities in health than others. Those disparities are caused not only by fundamental differences in health status across segments of the population, but also because of inequities in factors that impact health status, so-called determinants of health. Only part of an individual's health status depends on his or her behavior and choice; community-wide problems like poverty, unemployment, poor education, inadequate housing, poor public transportation, interpersonal violence, and decaying neighborhoods also contribute to health inequities, as well as the historic and ongoing interplay of structures, policies, and norms that shape lives. When these factors are not optimal in a community, it does not mean they are intractable: such inequities can be mitigated by social policies that can shape health in powerful ways. Communities in Action: Pathways to Health Equity seeks to delineate the causes of and the solutions to health inequities in the United States. This report focuses on what communities can do to promote health equity, what actions are needed by the many and varied stakeholders that are part of communities or support them, as well as the root causes and structural barriers that need to be overcome.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Severe asthma is a form of asthma that responds poorly to currently available medication, and its patients represent those with greatest unmet needs. In the last 10 years, substantial progress has been made in terms of understanding some of the mechanisms that drive severe asthma; there have also been concomitant advances in the recognition of specific molecular phenotypes. This ERS Monograph covers all aspects of severe asthma – epidemiology, diagnosis, mechanisms, treatment and management – but has a particular focus on recent understanding of mechanistic heterogeneity based on an analytic approach using various ‘omics platforms applied to clinically well-defined asthma cohorts. How these advances have led to improved management targets is also emphasised. This book brings together the clinical and scientific expertise of those from around the world who are collaborating to solve the problem of severe asthma.
