Book Synopsis Elementary Mechanical Drawing by : Charles William Weick

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elementary Mechanical Drawing: Theory and Practice Mechanical drawing is the art Of exact drawing by means Of drawing instruments Of precision. It differs from free-hand draw ing because it uses instruments and in general aims to reproduce the Object not as it appears to the eye in perspective but in its absolute relations in space. Mechanical Drawing is a generic title; specialized branches Of mechanical drawing are known as architectural drawing, topographical drawing, machine design, etc. The elements which underlie or are involved in the art Of mechanical drawing are: First, The Theory Of Projection; Second, Geometrical Drawing, and Third, Mathematics. The principles Of projection are involved, since we aim to transfer Objects having three dimensions to one plane Of two dimensions (the drawing paper). The difficulty which usually attends the study Of projection will be greatly lessened if a good method Of instruction is followed. It is better, for instance, to begin with simple Objects, than with complex ones. It is better to study minutely each separate detail, rather than several parts at once; studies Of unit details can then be built up to cover the whole Of a complex Object. The student, moreover, Should not be content with one study Of the Object but should make several studies Of the same Object in different positions. He should early acquire the habit Of analyzing, from the draftsman's point Of view, every Object into its parts and details. This power Of analysis once acquired saves time, ensures correctness, and is the secret Of power in the handling Of difficult and unusual problems. Download or read book A Manual of Machine Drawing and Design written by David Allan Low and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-12 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Machine Drawing and Design In this work the authors have attempted to provide: - (1.) A large number of dimensioned illustrations which may serve as good drawing examples for students, examples ranging in difficulty from the simplest machine detail to a set of triple-expansion marine engines. (2.) Illustrations and descriptions of a great variety of machine details, which may assist the designer in selecting the form of detail best suited to his purpose. (3.) Many rules and tables of proportions, based on scientific principles or on numerous examples from actual practice, which may be useful to the experienced designer for the sake of comparison with the results of his own practice, and which may, to some extent at least, take the place of the well-filled notebook and collection of designs usually possessed by the experienced designer, but which the young engineer or draughtsman can scarcely be expected to have. (4.) Numerous examples showing the application of the principles of mechanics to the calculation of the proportions of parts of machines. The illustrations given are very numerous, and they have all been specially prepared for this work from working drawings, and the authors have been at great trouble to obtain examples representing the best modern practice in machine design. The authors would here acknowledge their great indebtedness to the many engineers and engineering firms throughout the country who have generously given them drawings and much valuable information, which they feel sure will prove useful to students, draughtsmen, and engineers. They would also record their indebtedness to the leading engineering papers, and to the published Proceedings of the various engineering societies, English and American, for particulars of examples of modern practice, which they have either incorporated directly, or have made use of in drawing up the numerous rules and tables which occur throughout the work. In the introductory chapter, besides several brief articles on drawing appliances and the making of working drawings, there is a collection of problems in practical geometry which are very often required in machine drawing; but the student must not imagine that the amount of geometry there given is all that he will require; in fact, as machine drawing is simply the application of practical geometry to the representation of machines, it is evident that a thorough knowledge of the latter subject will be of immense advantage in the study and practice of the former. Book Synopsis Notes on Practical Mechanical Drawing Written for the Use of Students, in Engineering Courses by : Victor T. Wilson

This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notes on Practical Mechanical Drawing Written for the Use of Students, in Engineering Courses This book is a collection of notes intended to furnish, the basis for a course in elementary mechanical drawing, so arranged, it is thought, that the teacher may have the widest latitude in his choice of sequence of subjects. Since its first edition, two years ago, the book has been rearranged with this particular point in view. It has been thoroughly revised and also enlarged by the addition of more explanatory matter and illustrations in orthographic projection, by a chapter upon isometric and oblique drawing, and by a number of exercises in working drawings from sketches. The usual geometrical drawing has been reduced to a minimum; it has been included, not for its value as exercise in drawing, but for the knowledge conveyed upon constructive processes useful in the science. Latest practice in teaching drawing shows the influence of utilitarianism. The aim of a mechanical drawing is to record useful facts; useful facts, therefore, are used as exercises from the beginning of the study. The theoretical or geometrical science forms but a very small part of the knowledge required in the subject and, where courses in drawing are necessarily short, the maximum of practical information is aimed at. The course here outlined uses working drawings as exercises almost from the very beginning. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
