Book excerpt: What you need to know about your customers Now more than ever, every interaction you have with customers is critical. Customers today have unlimited information at their fingertips—and can influence the purchase decisions and behaviors of millions of others. With this comes a shift in the balance of power, and every company must come to terms with the fact that the customer is in control. Interacting with customers in the way they want is an essential business strategy and in many industries, the key to business success. Executives still refer to B2B and B2C business models, as though companies control demand by going to customers with products and services. But as Bill Price and David Jaffe (authors of The Best Service is No Service) show, a new business model is emerging in which the customer directs the relationship. It is becoming a world of "Me2B"—one in which the customer, not the business, dictates the terms of engagement. In order for your business to thrive, you must create positive experiences to fulfill a range of customer needs. Though the mediums for customer engagement continuously evolve, Price and Jaffe show that customer needs remain unchanging. In Your Customer Rules!, they define a critical hierarchy of seven needs that your company can meet and apply as a methodology. Throughout this practical guidebook, Price and Jaffe share examples of companies who succeed by meeting these seven needs, including Amazon, Apple, IKEA, Nordstrom, USAA, Shoes of Prey, Vente-Privee, and Yamato Transport, as well as those that didn't. Your Customer Rules! offers tailored advice for companies at every stage, from nimble startups to legacy firms with established customer service practices—and everyone in between. With a simple, elegant solution for driving lasting value for customers, Your Customer Rules! is a clear guide for strengthening customer relationships and competing on more than price. It is essential reading for executives at all levels—business owners, marketing managers, and anyone who works directly with customers.

Book excerpt: Amazon FBA 2021 Amazon FBA or fulfillment by Amazon is a business opportunity that offers people the opportunity to operate their own e-commerce store without having to deal with all of the technical bells and whistles that can make traditional e-commerce seem daunting. If you desire to run your own e-commerce store, Amazon FBA is a wonderful way for you to get started. This unique business opportunity presents you with so many benefits that you simply will not gain elsewhere, making e-commerce easier to get into than ever before. The abundance of benefits that you gain with this opportunity means that you can run your Amazon FBA store as a full-time gig without having to put in full-time hours. Countless people have been able to make $10,000+ per month using this platform, all the while being able to enjoy their lives and time freedom due to the hands-off structure of this business. That’s right! Because of how Amazon FBA works, you actually do not have to invest that much time into your business to start and maintain it. While it will take some practice and effort early on to get started and get your business going, maintaining and even scaling your business with Amazon FBA takes significantly less time than it would with nearly any other business model. This means that not only are you going to be able to turn a great profit, but you are also going to be able to actually have time to enjoy that profit you are turning so that you can really live your best life! In this book, I want to support you with discovering all of the ins and outs of Amazon FBA. I am going to help you discover exactly what this business model is, how it works, and what you need to do in order to leverage it. I am also going to help you identify how you can set yourself apart from the others who are using Amazon FBA by supporting you with discovering the right products to sell, as well as the right brand to use to actually sell those products. By blending together all of the tips and techniques I give you in this very book, you are going to have all of the knowledge that you need to make your business work. Dropshipping Shopify 2021 Imagine a business where you could sell whatever you wanted without having to handle the product physically and being able to charge whatever price you wanted to charge on it. This is essentially what dropshipping amounts to. It is a wonderful business model; you’re going to learn all about it inside and out in this chapter. There are some disadvantages as well that would be remiss of me not to remind you hof. I’ll cover those as well since it is unrealistic for you to assume that everything will always beat hunky-dory. Either way, let’s jump in and look at what dropshipping is. Dropshipping is the process where a middleman retails a manufacturer’s or wholesaler’s product. The middleman, in this case, is you, the store owner. The store owner takes care of all of the marketing aspects and drives traffic to the order pages, and the wholesaler takes care of product fulfillment, such as delivery and packaging. In some cases, you can even have the manufacturer brand the product with your own name and have them ship it to your customers. This business model is of immense help to the manufacturer and wholesaler since they get to focus on investing in what they know best, which is manufacturing the product. You get to focus on what you know best, which is to drive traffic and bring in sales. In effect, you’re a one-person marketing team for the wholesaler’s products. What’s not to like? The customer will order the product via your website or sales channel and will pay you money. In turn, you pay the wholesaler at their quoted price, and you pocket the profits.

Seven long papers and three short papers were accepted for inclusion in the proceedings. The papers address various issues of transactions and database dynamics: { criteria and protocols for global snapshot isolation in federated transaction management, { uni ed theory of concurrency control and replication control, { speci cation of evolving information systems, { inheritance mechanisms for deductive object databases with updates, { speci cation of active rules for maintaining database consistency, { integrity checking in subtransactions, { open nested transactions for multi-tier architectures, { declarative speci cation of transactions with static and dynamic integrity constraints, { logic-based speci cation of update queries as open nested transactions, and { execution guarantees and transactional processes in electronic commerce payments. In addition to the regular papers, there are papers resulting from two working groups. The rst working group paper discusses the basis for transactional c- putation. In particular, it addresses the speci cation of transactional software. The second working group paper focuses on transactions in electronic commerce applications. Among others, Internet transactions, payment protocols, and c- currency control and persistence mechanisms are discussed. Moreover, there is an invited paper by Jari Veijalainen which discusses tr- sactional aspects in mobile electronic commerce.

Book excerpt: A field manual to the technologies that are transforming our lives Everywhere we turn, a startling new device promises to transfigure our lives. But at what cost? In this urgent and revelatory excavation of our Information Age, leading technology thinker Adam Greenfield forces us to reconsider our relationship with the networked objects, services and spaces that define us. It is time to re-evaluate the Silicon Valley consensus determining the future. We already depend on the smartphone to navigate every aspect of our existence. We’re told that innovations—from augmented-reality interfaces and virtual assistants to autonomous delivery drones and self-driving cars—will make life easier, more convenient and more productive. 3D printing promises unprecedented control over the form and distribution of matter, while the blockchain stands to revolutionize everything from the recording and exchange of value to the way we organize the mundane realities of the day to day. And, all the while, fiendishly complex algorithms are operating quietly in the background, reshaping the economy, transforming the fundamental terms of our politics and even redefining what it means to be human. Having successfully colonized everyday life, these radical technologies are now conditioning the choices available to us in the years to come. How do they work? What challenges do they present to us, as individuals and societies? Who benefits from their adoption? In answering these questions, Greenfield’s timely guide clarifies the scale and nature of the crisis we now confront —and offers ways to reclaim our stake in the future.

Download or read book Cancel This Book written by Dan Kovalik and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-04-27 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examining a phenomenon that is sweeping the country, Cancel This Book shines the spotlight on the suppression of open and candid debate. The public shaming of individuals for actual or perceived offenses, often against emerging notions of proper racial and gender norms and relations, has become commonplace. In a number of cases, the shaming is accompanied by calls for the offending individuals to lose their jobs, positions, or other status. Frequently, those targeted for “cancellation” simply do not know the latest, ever-changing norms (often related to language) that they are accused of transgressing—or they have honest questions about issues that have been deemed off-limits for debate and discussion. Cancel This Book offers a unique perspective from Dan Kovalik, a progressive author who supports the ongoing movements for racial and gender equality and justice, but who is concerned about the prevalence of “cancelling” people, and especially of people who are well-intentioned and who are themselves allied with these movements. While many progressives believe that “cancelling” others is a form of activism and holding others accountable, Cancel This Book argues that “cancellation” is oftentimes counter-productive and destructive of the very values which the “cancellers” claim to support. And indeed, we now see instances in the workplace where employers are using this spirt of “cancellation” to pit employees against each other, to exert more control over the workforce and to undermine worker and labor solidarity. Kovalik observes that many progressives are quietly opposed to this “Cancel Culture” and to many instances of “cancellation” they witness, but they are afraid to air these concerns publicly lest they themselves be “cancelled.” The result is the suppression of open debate about important issues involving racial and gender matters, and even issues related to how to best confront the current COVID-19 pandemic. While people speak in whispers about their true feelings about such issues, critical debate and discussion is avoided, resentments build, and the movement for justice and equality is ultimately disserved.
