Download or read book Zen Pilot written by Robert DeLaurentis and published by . This book was released on 2016-11-16 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I was rocketing toward the ground in an aircraft loaded with high-octane aviation fuel. All I could do was negotiate where the impact would happen."Robert DeLaurentis had an impossibly big dream: to circumnavigate the globe in a single-engine piston plane. Meant to be the ultimate test of his flying skills as a pilot, the journey would take him to the ends of the earth and over some of the most inhospitable terrain on the planet. He diligently prepared himself and his plane, the "Spirit of San Diego," for the excursion. Having previously flown to far-off places, he thought he knew what to expect. But reality doesn't always make for the best co-pilot.What began as a call to adventure turned into a soul-defining mission riddled with equipment failure, fierce weather, foreign bureaucratic nightmares, and nearly ended in a crash into the vast Pacific Ocean. The voyage would stretch his limits, test his mental strength, and eventually define him. Beaten down, broken and discouraged, he found that the only way to survive was to surrender to the Universe. In this follow-up to Flying Thru Life, DeLaurentis shares the insights he gained for overcoming paralyzing fear, defeating obstacles, and confronting any situation with grace and ease. This raw, at times terrifying, real-life adventure will inspire anyone who loves flying, yearns to fly, or simply has their own "impossibly big dream."DeLaurentis' extraordinary journey shows us what it takes to be a Zen Pilot.
Book Synopsis Single-Engine Airplane Procedures Quick Reference by : Darrel M. Gilbertson
Download or read book Single-Engine Airplane Procedures Quick Reference written by Darrel M. Gilbertson and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-04-18 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Single Engine Airplane Maneuvers Quick Reference: This maneuvers guide is a compilation of standard flight training maneuvers and procedures for the typical training single engine fleet. It is designed to provide standardized procedures for each flight-training maneuver listed in typical light aircraft and flight training courses. This reference guide's main benefit is in "chair flying." Chair flying allows pilots to mentally run through the procedure and maneuver while at home. The brain's capacity to imagine and visualize the procedure is far more impressive than most give it credit for. A student pilot who spends considerable amounts of time chair flying will greatly outperform those who don't. Chair flying cements the procedure for the various maneuvers in the pilot's brain so that when done in the airplane time is not wasted trying to remember how the procedure goes. Each maneuver will include a list of references indicating where further information about the maneuver may be obtained. The references should be used to help develop a complete understanding of each maneuver before attempting them in flight. Along with an understanding of the completion standards and common errors. The Second Edition includes changes resulting from the release of the Commercial Pilot ACS.

Book Synopsis Commercial Aircraft Propulsion and Energy Systems Research by : National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Download or read book Commercial Aircraft Propulsion and Energy Systems Research written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2016-08-09 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary human activities that release carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere are the combustion of fossil fuels (coal, natural gas, and oil) to generate electricity, the provision of energy for transportation, and as a consequence of some industrial processes. Although aviation CO2 emissions only make up approximately 2.0 to 2.5 percent of total global annual CO2 emissions, research to reduce CO2 emissions is urgent because (1) such reductions may be legislated even as commercial air travel grows, (2) because it takes new technology a long time to propagate into and through the aviation fleet, and (3) because of the ongoing impact of global CO2 emissions. Commercial Aircraft Propulsion and Energy Systems Research develops a national research agenda for reducing CO2 emissions from commercial aviation. This report focuses on propulsion and energy technologies for reducing carbon emissions from large, commercial aircraftâ€" single-aisle and twin-aisle aircraft that carry 100 or more passengersâ€"because such aircraft account for more than 90 percent of global emissions from commercial aircraft. Moreover, while smaller aircraft also emit CO2, they make only a minor contribution to global emissions, and many technologies that reduce CO2 emissions for large aircraft also apply to smaller aircraft. As commercial aviation continues to grow in terms of revenue-passenger miles and cargo ton miles, CO2 emissions are expected to increase. To reduce the contribution of aviation to climate change, it is essential to improve the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to reduce emissions and initiate research into new approaches.
