The methods of the elocutionary manual have been discarded. Commonsense is a better substitute. The expositions and explanations are designed to be plain and straight-forward, assisting the speaker to find the way to the hearts of his audience. The clearly marked divisions of the volume should add materially to its value as a text-book. The hortatory style here and there adopted is neither unusual nor unwarranted.
