Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finding A Break In The Clouds brings the dark and elusive mystery of eating disorders to a comprehensible light by naming it. The "invader" (anorexia/bulimia) and its thugs (Guilt, Shame, and the fear monster) are exposed and conquered during the reader's experience. This is accomplished through use of symbols, interactive activity breaks, fresh new perspectives, and unique journal exercises -- all based on the newly-planted seed of self-care - "There is nothing wrong with me!" While implementing this unique process, the eating disorder is seen as less of a tragedy, and more of an opportunity to build a new, impervious strength. With this creative workbook, the reader gains access to the warrior within, signs a declaration of war on the invader, signs a peace treaty with food, learns how to naturally and gently re-nourish the body, rescues stifled emotions, builds a House of Being, constructs a relapse prevention kit, and climbs the clouds to reach the sunshine of freedom from food illness. The readers is able to separate himself/herself from anorexia/bulimia, and uncover the innate greatness which was there all along. In the last chapter, a peace treaty with the invader is signed, and the reader writes a good-bye letter to the eating disorder, acknowledging it as an experiential teacher. Finding A Break In The Clouds also reaches out to family members and friends who are attempting to understand what is happening to their loved one. Chapter ten (Frequently Asked Questions) and Chapter Eleven (Tips For Family and Friends) offer family members, friends, peers, and spouses a new inside understanding of the world of anorexia/bulimia, as well as advice on what to do, and what not to do when trying to help. Filled with diverse activities and exercises, Finding A Break In The Clouds allows each person to find the unique internal system of recovery which can ignite the individual healing process, and light the path to well-being.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Travel through a garden’s seasons toward healing, reclamation, and wholeness—for us, and for our beloved relative, the Earth In this rich collection of prose, poetry, and recipes, Teresa Peterson shares how she found refuge from the struggle to reconcile her Christianity and Dakota spirituality, discovering solace and ceremony in communing with the earth. Observing and embracing the cycles of her garden, she awakens to the constant affirmation that healing and wellness can be attained through a deep relationship with land, plants, and waters. Dakota people call this way of seeing and being in the world mitakuye owasin: all my relations. Perennial Ceremony brings us into this relationship, as Peterson guides us through the Dakota seasons to impart lessons from her life as a gardener, gatherer, and lover of the land. We see the awakening of Wetu (spring), a transitional time when nature comes alive and sweet sap flows from maples, and the imperfect splendor of Bdoketu (summer), when rain becomes a needed and nourishing gift. We share in the harvesting wisdom of Ptaŋyetu (fall), a time to savor daylight and reap the garden’s abundance, and the restorative solitude of Waniyetu (winter), when snow blankets the landscape and sharpens every sound. Through it all, Peterson walks with us along the path that both divides and joins Christian doctrine, everyday spiritual experience, and the healing powers of Indigenous wisdom and spirituality. In this intimate seasonal cycle, we learn how the garden becomes a healing balm. Peterson teaches us how ceremony may be found there: how in the vegetables and flowers, the woods, the hillsides, the river valley—even in the feeding of friends and family—we can reclaim and honor our relationship with Mother Earth. She encourages us to bring perennial ceremony into our own lives, inviting us on a journey that brings us full circle to makoce kiŋ mitakuye: the land is my relative.

Book excerpt: “In the heart of this world, the Lord of life, who loves us so much, is always present. He does not abandon us, he does not leave us alone, for he has united himself definitively to our earth, and his love constantly impels us to find new ways forward. Praise be to him!” – Pope Francis, Laudato Si’ In his second encyclical, Laudato Si’: On the Care of Our Common Home, Pope Francis draws all Christians into a dialogue with every person on the planet about our common home. In this insightful, full-color tour of Jamaica, Norway, Hawai'i, Japan, India, and Brazil, wellness and travel journalist Annie Daly shares a diverse array of philosophies, lifestyles, and practices for better living. Fed up with the commercialization of the wellness industry after working in it for years, Annie embarked on an inspiring adventure through some of the world's happiest and healthiest cities and villages to find out what we can learn from them. Whether she's hiking along gorgeous fjords in Norway to see why Norwegians are so dedicated to getting outside, soothing her spirit with Hawaiian salt water cleanses, or learning about the importance Brazilians place on community, Annie combines on-the-ground reporting with heartful personal narrative to share the global lessons, philosophies, and customs that prove that wellness is not about the products—it's about the way you live your life. With candid photography, lesser-known history sidebars, and guidance on how to incorporate these often ancient and always timeless practices into your own lifestyle, this culturally-immersive read invites you to view the world through a different lens and decide what being well means to you. Book excerpt: Journey to the moon on the Apollo 12 mission with Alan Bean, the fourth astronaut to walk on the lunar surface and the only artist to paint its beauty firsthand! As a boy, Alan wanted to fly planes. As a young navy pilot, Alan wished he could paint the view from the cockpit. So he took an art class to learn patterns and forms. But no class could prepare him for the beauty of the lunar surface some 240,000 miles from Earth. In 1969, Alan became the fourth man and first artist on the moon. He took dozens of pictures, but none compared to what he saw through his artistic eyes. When he returned to Earth, he began to paint what he saw. Alan's paintings allowed humanity to experience what it truly felt like to walk on the moon. Journalist and storyteller Dean Robbins's tale of this extraordinary astronaut is masterful, and artist Sean Rubin's illustrations are whimsical and unexpected. With back matter that includes photos of the NASA mission, images of Alan's paintings, and a timeline of lunar space travel, this is one adventure readers won't want to miss!
