Book excerpt: Three sisters arrive in San Francisco after their mother dies with dreams of making a new life for themselves. Honora, the eldest, quickly falls in love with the suave and devastatingly handsome Curt Ivory, an employee at the engineering firm of the girls’ wealthy uncle, Gideon Talbott. When Gideon hears of the twosome’s romance, he fires Curt, and the young couple must flee down the Californian coast. Desperate to support himself and Honora, Curt starts his own firm, which quickly gains prominence and becomes Gideon’s biggest business rival. Meanwhile, Crystal, the beautiful but manipulative middle sister, and the spunky and clever younger daughterJocelyn are left with Gideon, and Crystal agrees to be Gideon’s wife out of greed rather than love. Jocelyn is horrified by Crystal’s choice and runs away to Los Angeles to live with Honora and Curt. In L.A., Crystal flourishes, graduating from a prestigious college and working as an engineer at Curt’s firm. Despite her talent in the workplace, she gives up her job to marry the charming but reserved Malcolm Peck, a decision that leads her to make choices she will later regret until the day she dies. Through it all, the three sisters remain connected by an unbreakable bond—one that is tested again and again by acts of betrayal and deceit, and twists of fate that shake them to their very core. A steamy saga that takes readers from engineering sites in the most remote corners of the globe, to the posh neighborhoods of Hollywood, and finally to a dramatic conclusion on the floor of the Senate, Too Much Too Soon is the ultimate exploration of love and the relationships that define us all.

The Day of the Lord will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the earth. And the Word of God says, "He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still. And behold, I am coming quickly, and My Reward is with Me, to give to everyone according to his work."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unlike most other ancient European, Near Eastern, and Mediterranean civilizations, Jewish culture surprisingly developed no early epic tradition: while the Bible comprises a broad range of literary genres, epic is not among them. Not until the late medieval period, Beginning in the fourteenth century, did an extensive and thriving epic tradition emerge in Yiddish. Among the few dozen extant early epics, there are several masterpieces, of which ten are translated into English in this volume. Divided between the religious and the secular, the book includes eight epics presented in their entirety, an illustrative excerpt from another epic, and a brief heroic prose tale. These texts have been chosen as the best and the most interesting representatives of the genre in terms of cultural history and literary quality: the pious “epicizing” of biblical narrative, the swashbuckling medieval courtly epic, Arthurian romance, heroic vignettes, intellectual high art, and popular camp.

Numerical Reasoning 3. Verbal Analysis 4. Sequential Reasoning 5. Spatial Recognition 6. Three-D 7. Systems 8. Vocabulary 9. Aptitude Profiling and Selection of Subjects 10. Aptitude Tests Scholastic Aptitude Test comprises four Scholastic Aptitude Tests in each of the following subjects : 1. Mathematics 2. Science 3. Social Science 4. English By going through these books, the learner will be able to (i) know what to study (ii) identify his/her weaknesses and overcome them (iii) actually improve his/her mental ability (iv) develop speed and (v) gain confidence. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Case Studies in Mental Health presents a variety of global cases from both developed and developing countries, detailing descriptions of the people who are seeking help to eliminate their distress and of the exceptional practitioners who provide the help. In most of the cases, the practitioner is someone who shares a similar heritage with her or his help seeker, and who is influenced at least partly by Western psychotherapy traditions. Each chapter also is a showcase of how scholars pair up with mental health practitioners to create a work that weaves together contextual and individual qualities to inform an understanding of the help-seeker and the intervention. This book aims to help prepare both mental health trainees and practicing professionals to be effective in the provision of healing in their work with people in different regions of the world. Consequently, the authors hope to offer practitioners a glimpse of what can be achieved in these regions by people whose reputations within the respective communities are strong.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This insightful study examines the deeply personal and heart-wrenching tensions among financial considerations, emotional attachments, and moral arguments that motivate end-of-life decisions. America’s health care system was built on the principle that life should be prolonged whenever possible, regardless of the costs. This commitment has often meant that patients spend their last days suffering from heroic interventions that extend their life by only weeks or months. Increasingly, this approach to end-of-life care is coming under scrutiny, from a moral as well as a financial perspective. Sociologist Roi Livne documents the rise and effectiveness of hospice and palliative care, and growing acceptance of the idea that a life consumed by suffering may not be worth living. Values at the End of Life combines an in-depth historical analysis with an extensive study conducted in three hospitals, where Livne observed terminally ill patients, their families, and caregivers negotiating treatment. Livne describes the ambivalent, conflicted moments when people articulate and act on their moral intuitions about dying. Interviews with medical staff allowed him to isolate the strategies clinicians use to help families understand their options. As Livne discovered, clinicians are advancing the idea that invasive, expensive hospital procedures often compound a patient’s suffering. Affluent, educated families were more readily persuaded by this moral calculus than those of less means. Once defiant of death—or even in denial—many American families and professionals in the health care system are beginning to embrace the notion that less treatment in the end may be better treatment.
