He is miserable. And every day, Danny tries harder to make it worse." On the internet, on playgrounds, and in schools across the country, thousands of elementary and middle school kids are picked on, teased, and harassed by bullies. It's something that can jeopardize a child's development -- unless they have the tools to help stop bullying in its tracks. In Jay McGraw's Life Strategies for Dealing with Bullies, McGraw helps kids identify potentially harmful situations and deal with bullies through tips, techniques, and examples that apply to real-life situations. Jay doesn't just speak about the bullies -- he also speaks to the bullies themselves to help them change their ways. Jay takes a no-nonsense approach to bullying and the ways readers can handle it. This timely and much-needed book will be the tool kids across the country can use to stop being victims -- and take back the power in their lives.

Emphasizing character-building as a prime ingredient in overcoming conflict, the series uses no-nonsense dramatizations, candid 'school hallway' interviews, and expert commentary to define basic ideas, illustrate ways in which conflicts often play out, and ultimately present methods for diffusing them--based on honesty, awareness, and respect for others."--Publisher's web site.

Ms MacArthur's class is pumped about the fitness challenge at the park -- it's where kids from local schools compete in a series of events such as chin-ups, a tire run, a bicycle obstacle course and monkey-bar swinging. The winner will get a brand-new bike! But when Rilla and her classmates, Lauren and Nicholas, go to the park to practise, a threatening bully and his sidekicks stop them. Will they ever get to use the playground -- or hope to win any of the fitness challenge events? Though bullying is a serious topic many kids face, Nancy Wilcox Richards's tone is funny, light and positive, and in the end, the Bayfield kids succeed in pulling together to curb the bully's behaviour.

This book was released on 2016-09-14 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bullying has long been tolerated as a rite of passage among children and adolescents. There is an implication that individuals who are bullied must have "asked for" this type of treatment, or deserved it. Sometimes, even the child who is bullied begins to internalize this idea. For many years, there has been a general acceptance and collective shrug when it comes to a child or adolescent with greater social capital or power pushing around a child perceived as subordinate. But bullying is not developmentally appropriate; it should not be considered a normal part of the typical social grouping that occurs throughout a child's life. Although bullying behavior endures through generations, the milieu is changing. Historically, bulling has occurred at school, the physical setting in which most of childhood is centered and the primary source for peer group formation. In recent years, however, the physical setting is not the only place bullying is occurring. Technology allows for an entirely new type of digital electronic aggression, cyberbullying, which takes place through chat rooms, instant messaging, social media, and other forms of digital electronic communication. Composition of peer groups, shifting demographics, changing societal norms, and modern technology are contextual factors that must be considered to understand and effectively react to bullying in the United States. Youth are embedded in multiple contexts and each of these contexts interacts with individual characteristics of youth in ways that either exacerbate or attenuate the association between these individual characteristics and bullying perpetration or victimization. Recognizing that bullying behavior is a major public health problem that demands the concerted and coordinated time and attention of parents, educators and school administrators, health care providers, policy makers, families, and others concerned with the care of children, this report evaluates the state of the science on biological and psychosocial consequences of peer victimization and the risk and protective factors that either increase or decrease peer victimization behavior and consequences.

It isn't, however, simply a random mix of popular articles. It's a comprehensive work that encompasses every principle, theme, and methodology of the SCM approach. The book is laid out across six major areas of classroom management and includes the most pressing issues, problems, and concerns shared by all teachers. The underlying SCM themes of accountability, maturity, independence, personal responsibility, and intrinsic motivation are all there and weave their way throughout the entirety of the book. Together, they form a simple, unique, and sometimes contrarian approach to classroom management that anyone can do. Whether you're an elementary, middle, or high school teacher, The Smart Classroom Management Way will give you the strategies, skills, and know-how to turn any group of students into the motivated, well-behaved class you love teaching.
