Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents original results on the leading edge of computer science research. The first chapter begins by presenting several supervised machine learning methods and their applications in analyzing microarray and genotyping data to classify and predict sample phenotypes. Chapter two presents the design and implementation of the EstiNet cloud, and evaluates its performance. Chapter three proposes a simple high switching power supply designed especially for large battery charging. Chapter four studies the constant control of temperature, with the microcontroller PIC, by iterative adjustments of the temperature on a thermal sensor from the heat source. Chapter five proposes two types of pinning control protocols to ensure group consensus regardless of the magnitude of the coupling strengths among the agents. Chapter six describes how point clouds are constructed, and provides a brief discussion on the currently available software that is used for the processing of point clouds. The final chapter reviews the metamodels used to approximate computationally expensive simulations.

Chapter Five defines a rating contribution ratio and quantifies it from the perspective of a collaborative filtering algorithm; discusses a method of efficiently improving the recommendation accuracy by performing several simulations experiments; and defines and formulates the rating contribution ratio based on a user-based collaborative filtering algorithm. Chapter Six proposes a conceptual bilateral Cloud Forensic-as-a-Service model where both consumers and providers can independently collect, verify the equity of the forensic analysis process and try to resolve potential disputes emerging from the independently collected results. Chapter Seven develops a cellular and iridium network based blood pressure and body temperature remote measurement platform for mobile healthcare education.

Book excerpt: The first part of the MIE 2008 conference theme - eHealth Beyond the Horizon - highlights the expectations for the future of ehealth and raises the question: What sort of developments in ehealth services can we imagine emerging above the horizon in the years to come? EHealth Beyond the Horizon contains a good number of high-quality papers giving different perspectives of this future, some of them already available today in picot scale, some of them outlined in visions. The second part of the theme - Get IT There - has triggered a large number of papers describing how to create, evaluate, adjust and deliver products and deploy services in healthcare organizations for the necessary information technology as a basis for the ehealth applications that are essential in order to respond to the challenges of the health systems. The papers in the proceedings are grouped by themes according to the submission categories and the supplied keywords. As the last theme, three doctoral students from different areas of medical informatics were selected to present and discuss their research under the guidance of a panel of distinguished research faculties.

This book was released on 1992-09-30 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced countries have shown an increasing convergence in their economic performance and technological intensity, with a relative decline of the position of the United States and the emergence of the European and Japanese economies. The Technological Specialization of Advanced Countries moves beyond aggregate patterns and examines the sectoral structure of technological activities, the process of specialization, and the impact on national performance. Indicators of technology and of scientific activity are examined together with other economic and R & D data, providing a wealth of empirical evidence on the activities, and areas of strength and weakness of individual countries. The amount of disaggregated data provided, and the assessment offered on the state of art in science and technology indicators, make The Technological Specialization of Advanced Countries an important reference work. A description of the fields of national effort is provided and a special study is devoted to the fields of greater innovative dynamism where patenting has grown most rapidly. Over time, countries have concentrated their technological efforts in the fields of their greater strength, under the pressure of increasing international competition and the proprietary nature of know how. Conversely, in science there has generally been a decrease in the degree of specialization, with countries entering new fields of research, taking advantage of the open flow of scientific knowledge. For science and technology policy, the findings of The Technological Specialization of Advanced Countries suggest that national efforts should be combined with the growing international integration. The aims of maintaining established areas of strength and of developing new specializations in emerging fields should be balanced, and a more selective policy at the sectoral level is suggested.
