Book Synopsis Television Cartoon Shows by : Hal Erickson
Download or read book Television Cartoon Shows written by Hal Erickson and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1949 the first made-for-television cartoon series debuted on a major network. Tele-Comics embraced the popular cliffhanger serial genre, using nonmoving comic strip panels and a handful of radio actors to produce a show at a fraction of the cost accrued by a live show. Despite the success of Tele-Comics and a few other such shows, television cartoons languished until 1954 when Walt Disney produced Disneyland. From such pioneers as Tele-Comics and Crusader Rabbit to modern fare such as X-Men and Beavis and Butthead, this is the first reference book to detail animated cartoons made exclusively for television from 1949 through 1993. Each entry includes the shows title, network, studios and full production information when available. An essay blending plot description, critical commentary, and background information is also provided for each cartoon. A discussion of the voice artist concludes the work.

Download or read book Stapme written by David A Ross and published by Casemate Publishers. This book was released on 2008-09-08 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This biography of the WWII flying ace recounts his legendary career in the RAF, his time as a POW and his postwar life as a beloved public figure. One of the most famous fighter pilots of the Second World War, Basil Gerald “Stapme” Stapleton achieved flying ace status in the Battle of Britain and was immortalized in Richard Hillary’s classic wartime memoir The Last Enemy. Born in Durban, South Africa, Stapleton joined the Royal Air Force in 1939 and flew Spitfires with 603 Squadron. His legendary escapades during the Battle of Britain account for nearly twenty enemy aircraft destroyed, probably destroyed or damaged. Stapleton later became flight commander of 257 Squadron and a gunnery instructor at RAF Kenley and Central Gunnery School, Catfoss. He returned to combat in 1944, flying Typhoons as commander of 247 Squadron. For his courageous combat during the Battle of Arnhem, he received the Dutch Flying Cross. In December of 1944, he was forced to land inside German lines and spent the rest of the war as a prisoner in Stalag Luft I on the Baltic coast. Nicknamed 'Stapme' after a phrase used in his favorite cartoon 'Just Jake', Stapleton was a larger-than-life character who became a beloved public figure in his postwar life. With his handlebar mustache and good-humored bravado, he became for many the quintessential ace fighter pilot. In this authoritative and intimate volume, Stapleton tells his full story to historian David Ross, author of the acclaimed biography Richard Hillary.

Here are accounts of UFOs, accounts of odd animals seen at sea or on land, mysterious attacks by what appear to have been animals, mysterious appearances of things and people in places they could not be. Here Forts epic account of spontaneous combustion, lights in the sky, poltergeists, unseen. murderous wild animals, mysterious disappearances, manifestations of psychotic mania, speaking in tongues¾and, of course, the cow that gave birth to two lambs. All of this Fortean wonder is prefaced by a magnificent new introductory essay by Jack Womack, winner of the Philip K. Dick Award and lifetime Fortean.
