Book Synopsis Handbook of Pseudo-Riemannian Geometry and Supersymmetry by : Vicente Cortés
Download or read book Handbook of Pseudo-Riemannian Geometry and Supersymmetry written by Vicente Cortés and published by European Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2010 with total page 972 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this handbook is to give an overview of some recent developments in differential geometry related to supersymmetric field theories. The main themes covered are: Special geometry and supersymmetry Generalized geometry Geometries with torsion Para-geometries Holonomy theory Symmetric spaces and spaces of constant curvature Conformal geometry Wave equations on Lorentzian manifolds D-branes and K-theory The intended audience consists of advanced students and researchers working in differential geometry, string theory, and related areas. The emphasis is on geometrical structures occurring on target spaces of supersymmetric field theories. Some of these structures can be fully described in the classical framework of pseudo-Riemannian geometry. Others lead to new concepts relating various fields of research, such as special Kahler geometry or generalized geometry.
Book Synopsis Extrinsic Geometry of Foliations by : Vladimir Rovenski
Download or read book Extrinsic Geometry of Foliations written by Vladimir Rovenski and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-22 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to geometric problems of foliation theory, in particular those related to extrinsic geometry, modern branch of Riemannian Geometry. The concept of mixed curvature is central to the discussion, and a version of the deep problem of the Ricci curvature for the case of mixed curvature of foliations is examined. The book is divided into five chapters that deal with integral and variation formulas and curvature and dynamics of foliations. Different approaches and methods (local and global, regular and singular) in solving the problems are described using integral and variation formulas, extrinsic geometric flows, generalizations of the Ricci and scalar curvatures, pseudo-Riemannian and metric-affine geometries, and 'computable' Finsler metrics. The book presents the state of the art in geometric and analytical theory of foliations as a continuation of the authors' life-long work in extrinsic geometry. It is designed for newcomers to the field as well as experienced geometers working in Riemannian geometry, foliation theory, differential topology, and a wide range of researchers in differential equations and their applications. It may also be a useful supplement to postgraduate level work and can inspire new interesting topics to explore.
Book Synopsis Foliations on Riemannian Manifolds and Submanifolds by : Vladimir Rovenski
Download or read book Foliations on Riemannian Manifolds and Submanifolds written by Vladimir Rovenski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is based on the author's results on the Riemannian ge ometry of foliations with nonnegative mixed curvature and on the geometry of sub manifolds with generators (rulings) in a Riemannian space of nonnegative curvature. The main idea is that such foliated (sub) manifolds can be decom posed when the dimension of the leaves (generators) is large. The methods of investigation are mostly synthetic. The work is divided into two parts, consisting of seven chapters and three appendices. Appendix A was written jointly with V. Toponogov. Part 1 is devoted to the Riemannian geometry of foliations. In the first few sections of Chapter I we give a survey of the basic results on foliated smooth manifolds (Sections 1.1-1.3), and finish in Section 1.4 with a discussion of the key problem of this work: the role of Riemannian curvature in the study of foliations on manifolds and submanifolds.
Book Synopsis Superstring Theory: Volume 2, Loop Amplitudes, Anomalies and Phenomenology by : Michael B. Green
Download or read book Superstring Theory: Volume 2, Loop Amplitudes, Anomalies and Phenomenology written by Michael B. Green and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-07-26 with total page 609 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twenty-five years ago, Michael Green, John Schwarz, and Edward Witten wrote two volumes on string theory. Published during a period of rapid progress in this subject, these volumes were highly influential for a generation of students and researchers. Despite the immense progress that has been made in the field since then, the systematic exposition of the foundations of superstring theory presented in these volumes is just as relevant today as when first published. Volume 2 is concerned with the evaluation of one-loop amplitudes, the study of anomalies and phenomenology. It examines the low energy effective field theory analysis of anomalies, the emergence of the gauge groups E8 x E8 and SO(32) and the four-dimensional physics that arises by compactification of six extra dimensions. Featuring a new Preface setting the work in context in light of recent advances, this book is invaluable for graduate students and researchers in high energy physics and astrophysics, as well as mathematicians.

Download or read book The Universe written by Martin Bojowald and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-11-26 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by a well-known author in the field, this book presents a modern understanding of the universe based on relativity, quantum physics and their elusive combination. It introduces the crucial theoretical ingredients in an accessible way, starting from the physics of Newton and developing subsequent theories all the way to the modern enigma of quantum gravity. The intermediate level presentation assumes only a general knowledge of math and physics, adopting a "two-level" approach: equations are retained throughout the chapters but set apart from the main text in boxes to allow for lay readers to understand the book. For scientists, researchers, students and lecturers in cosmology, astronomy, gravitation, quantum and theoretical physics; as well as mathematicians, students, lecturers, academics and non-experts in related fields with an interest in the subject.

Book Synopsis The Geometry and Topology of Three-Manifolds by : William P. Thurston
Download or read book The Geometry and Topology of Three-Manifolds written by William P. Thurston and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2022-07-19 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Thurston's work has had a profound influence on mathematics. He connected whole mathematical subjects in entirely new ways and changed the way mathematicians think about geometry, topology, foliations, group theory, dynamical systems, and the way these areas interact. His emphasis on understanding and imagination in mathematical learning and thinking are integral elements of his distinctive legacy. This four-part collection brings together in one place Thurston's major writings, many of which are appearing in publication for the first time. Volumes I–III contain commentaries by the Editors. Volume IV includes a preface by Steven P. Kerckhoff. Volume IV contains Thurston's highly influential, though previously unpublished, 1977–78 Princeton Course Notes on the Geometry and Topology of 3-manifolds. It is an indispensable part of the Thurston collection but can also be used on its own as a textbook or for self-study.
