Book Synopsis Holographic Techniques for the Study of Dynamic Particle Fields by : J. D. Trolinger
Download or read book Holographic Techniques for the Study of Dynamic Particle Fields written by J. D. Trolinger and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A brief review of the techniques of small-particle holography is presented. These results are extended in an elementary way to show that multiple-exposure holography can be used to study the dynamic properties of particle fields. Experimental techniques for performing such a study are then described. Finally, as a typical example, a multiple-exposure hologram of an aerosol is presented with a portion of the data extracted from it. The hologram exhibits a vast amount of information including the determination of the velocity field, density field, size distribution, flow structure, and diffusion rate. (Author).
Book Synopsis Particle Field Holography by : Chandra S. Vikram
Download or read book Particle Field Holography written by Chandra S. Vikram and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1992-07-23 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to provide a thorough and systematic description of the entire subject of particle field holography. The use of holography to study very small objects in a dynamic volume is a technique of importance for scientists and engineers across a variety of disciplines for obtaining information about the size, shape and velocity of small objects, such as dust particles, fuel droplets, raindrops, pollen, and bubbles. Professor Vikram has made major contributions to the field, and here provides a coherent, comprehensive and self-contained treatment of the theory, practice and applications. The volume is written to satisfy the needs of researchers in the technique, practicing engineers dealing with applications, and advanced students in science or engineering departments. All the necessary mathematical formulations, figures and photographs, experimental procedures and results, and literature citations are therefore included.
Book Synopsis The Techniques of Holographic Particle Sizing by : Robert L. Kurtz
Download or read book The Techniques of Holographic Particle Sizing written by Robert L. Kurtz and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Depending on the mechanism of particle production, the resultant particle size and velocity distribution may range over several orders of magnitude. In general, if particle size information is desired from a given type generator, one must resort to some form of experimental determination of the distribution. If the source of particle production is a dynamic one involving a reasonable volume, holography provides a tailor-made particle size and velocity distribution detector. This is evidenced by the fact that holography allows the entire volume to be recorded on one exposure without any interference with the volume of interest. Herein lies a very important characteristic of the holographic particle detection technique: It provides a holographic nondestructive testing technique in the fullest sense of the definition of nondestructive testing. This report provides a description of three different systems useful in this technique and includes the experimental results from one of the holographic systems which was used to detect particle size and velocity distribution from the Skylab waste tank.

Download or read book Particle Field Clustering and Dynamics Experiments with Holographic Imaging written by Jeremy Christopher De Jong and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ?Pub Inc Collision and coagulation processes of inertial particles suspended in turbulence are of considerable significance in a wide variety of both natural and industrial flows. Due to the complex nature of these processes, they are typically studied through the use of direct numerical simulations (DNS). However, these exists a pressing need to experimentally validate the DNS results. In this regard, we utilize digital particle holography to study a dynamic particle field in a stationary, homogenous and isotropic turbulent flow and evaluate important collision parameters such as the radial distribution function (RDF) and the radial relative velocity probability density function (PDF). We compare the experimental results with those obtain by DNS under similar flow and particle conditions and define correction factors that must be applied to the DNS to account for limitations and uncertainties inherent in experimental measurements. These factors include correction for the limited experimental volume, a polydisperse particle size distribution, lower dimensional measurements and uncertainties in the measured particle locations. Additionally, we defined a particle signature function that enhances the ability to distinguish real particles from noise in numerically reconstructed digital holograms and developed a method the uses inertial range fitting of the second order velocity structure function determine the dissipation rate inside a stationary turbulence chamber that allows complete characterization of the flow.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Holography by : Vincent Toal
Download or read book Introduction to Holography written by Vincent Toal and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-12-13 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fully updated second edition of Introduction to Holography provides a theoretical background in optics and holography with a comprehensive survey of practical applications. It is intended for the non-specialist with an interest in using holographic methods in research and engineering. The text assumes some knowledge of electromagnetism, although this is not essential for an understanding of optics, which is covered in the first two chapters. A descriptive approach to the history and principles of holography is followed by a chapter on volume holography. Essential practical requirements for successful holographic recording are explained in detail. Recording materials are considered with detailed discussions of those in common use. Properties peculiar to holographically reconstructed images are emphasised as well as applications for which holography is particularly suitable. Mathematical tools are introduced as and when required throughout the text with important results derived in detail. In this new edition, topics such as photopolymers, dynamic holographic displays, holographic optical elements, sensors, and digital holography are covered in greater depth. New topics have been added, including UV and infrared holography, holographic authentication and encryption, as well as particle beam, X-ray, and acoustic holography. Numerical problems are provided at the end of each chapter. This book is suitable for undergraduate courses and will be an important resource for those teaching optics and holography. It provides scientists and engineers with knowledge of a wide range of holographic applications in research and industry, as well as an understanding of holography’s potential for future use.
Book Synopsis Techniques for Measuring Displacement Fields of Deformed Bodies Using Holographic Interferometry by : Gene E. Maddux
Download or read book Techniques for Measuring Displacement Fields of Deformed Bodies Using Holographic Interferometry written by Gene E. Maddux and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Holographic interferometry has reached a state of practical application wherein many different structural deformations have been recorded. Some of these recordings can be interpreted by casual observation while others require a detailed mathematical analysis to convert fringe patterns into displacement data. A few investigators have proposed different mathematical models for fringe formation resulting from surface displacements. Most of these models, however, do not adequately represent realistic structures. The report is concerned with examining these approaches and devising a systematic plan of investigating displacement determination for complex structures.

Book Synopsis Optical Holography Applications for the Zero-g Atmospheric Cloud Physics Laboratory by : Robert L. Kurtz
Download or read book Optical Holography Applications for the Zero-g Atmospheric Cloud Physics Laboratory written by Robert L. Kurtz and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complete description of holography is provided, both for the time-dependent case of moving scene holography and for the time-independent case of stationary holography. Further, a specific holographic arrangement is proposed for application to the detection of particle size distribution in an atmospheric simulation cloud chamber. In this chamber particle growth rate is investigated; therefore, the proposed holographic system must capture continuous particle motion in real time. Such a system is described.
