Issues with focus and concentration. Headaches. Substance abuse. These are all common problems that teenagers deal with. We have long been acquainted with the conventional treatments of therapy and prescription medications. It turns out there are also many complementary and alternative therapies available that have evidence-based track records of success. This book presents therapies based around the five senses—including acupressure, aromatherapy, yoga, sound/music therapy—to help teens with their mental health. Each chapter reviews the signs and symptoms of a problem and presents detailed treatment protocols and therapies. This all-inclusive book is one-stop shopping for teens and parents looking for new, synergistic, and different ways to handle life’s problems. As both a trained medical doctor on the faculty at Harvard Medical School and a noted complementary and alternative medicine specialist, Nada Milosavljevic brings a rich background of experience to this book.
Book Synopsis Holistic Health in Children: Conceptualization, Assessment and Potential by : Valerie Michaelson
Download or read book Holistic Health in Children: Conceptualization, Assessment and Potential written by Valerie Michaelson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-21 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the results of the Canadian Holistic Health in Children project. Rooted in an ancient concept, this study addresses some novel thinking surrounding the assessment of health and its determinants in adolescent populations. Holism refers to the assessment of complex systems as composite wholes, instead of or in addition to their constituent parts. This idea is rarely applied to the study of health in children, and its application to adolescent populations represents a potentially important gap in knowledge. It fills this gap by conducting a series of analyses in a mixed methods paradigm. Quantitatively, it develops new measures and analytic strategies to be used in the assessment of health and its determinants in adolescents, and then applied these a series of national and cross-national studies. Qualitatively, it explores the origins and models of health inferred from existing theory as well as quantitative findings with groups of young people, and captures the richness of their stories in recurrent themes and metaphor. This book outlines the basic elements of theory that underlie holistic understandings of adolescent health, quantitative and qualitative findings, and then presents and interprets the results and translates them into a series of practical recommendations.
Book Synopsis Adolescence and Health by : Joav Merrick
Download or read book Adolescence and Health written by Joav Merrick and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Think positive and not negative. For too long, the "deficiency" or "pathological" approach in understanding children and adolescents has been prevalent, but in recent years we have seen a greater interest in positive youth development programs with a shift from looking at the negative to turning the related programs and approach into something positive and highlighting the positive side of youth development. This has resulted in a focus on talents, strengths, interests and potential in order to facilitate a stronger and better youth development. Instead of viewing children and adolescents as "problems" or "issues" to be resolved, they are regarded as "resources" and "assets" to be developed. In particular, it is argued that it is important to nurture the developmental assets such as psychosocial skills in children and adolescents. The notion of positive youth development bears striking resemblance to the beliefs of Chinese medicine and holistic medicine, which maintains that when a person has inner strengths and talents, the chance of becoming ill will be reduced.

Download or read book Mental and Holistic Health written by Joseph L. Calles and published by Nova Biomedical Books. This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The search for optimal medications to support health has been part of human history since early times. One concept that was learned in early human civilisations was that medications can be harmful as well as potentially beneficial. Folklore and anecdotal information dominated human knowledge for more than 50,000 years until the work of the Chinese emperor, Shen-Nung (2737 BCE), who became a pristine, official, and erudite classifier of medicinal herbs. Pharmacologic management of human disease is clearly part of the 21st century medical armamentarium. Adolescents of the second decade of the 21st century and those adolescents soon to come will determine the outcome of our planet and life into the 22nd century. Pharmacology will remain an ever-growing part of clinicians' efforts to improve their patients' mental and medical health, but in this book, the authors' have taken a holistic approach, which they hope will please and interest the reader.
