Download or read book Hockey Moms written by Julie Bertuzzi and published by McClelland & Stewart. This book was released on 2015-10-06 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Julie Bertuzzi, the wife of NHL player Todd Bertuzzi and Hockey Mom extraordinaire, presents us with twenty hilarious portraits of the Hockey Moms we know and love. The perfect gift book for all seasons. Straight-shooting, observant, and uproarious, Julie Bertuzzi's Hockey Moms is an irreverent look at the many kinds of moms you are sure to find in the ice rinks, on the road, and in the hotel bars at tournaments across this hockey-loving continent. While always applauding the dedication of moms who support their players -- at early morning practices and on long drives to and from tournaments, in the triumph of a big win and the heartache of a big loss -- Bertuzzi pokes fun at herself and her fellow Hockey Moms, and brings alive the many characters she has observed during her years of experience as a Hockey Mom herself. Whether it's Big Mouth Betty shrieking from the stands, the Drama Queen stirring up trouble in the bar after a tournament game, Team Manager Mom with her clipboard and team jacket, the Yodeler, or the Leaner, readers will recognize and delight in these familiar profiles. This is a quick, funny read and a must-have book for Hockey Moms, and those who love them, everywhere.
Download or read book The Play written by Elle Kennedy and published by Elle Kennedy Inc.. This book was released on 2019-10-07 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A brand-new standalone novel in the New York Times bestselling Briar U series! What I learned after last year’s distractions cost my hockey team our entire season? No more screwing up. No more screwing, period. As the new team captain, I need a new philosophy: hockey and school now, women later. Which means that I, Hunter Davenport, am officially going celibate…no matter how hard that makes things. But there’s nothing in the rulebook that says I can’t be friends with a woman. And I won’t lie—my new classmate Demi Davis is one cool chick. Her smart mouth is hot as hell, and so is the rest of her, but the fact that she’s got a boyfriend eliminates the temptation to touch her. Except three months into our friendship, Demi is single and looking for a rebound. And she’s making a play for me. Avoiding her is impossible. We’re paired up on a yearlong school project, but I’m confident I can resist her. We’d never work, anyway. Our backgrounds are too different, our goals aren’t aligned, and her parents hate my guts. Hooking up is a very bad idea. Now I just have to convince my body—and my heart.

Download or read book A Guy Like Me written by John Scott and published by Howard Books. This book was released on 2020-10-13 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the NHL’s most unexpected All-Star MVP comes a sports memoir unlike any other. Hilarious, candid, and reflective, A Guy Like Me recounts the heartwarming story of John Scott: an average joe who became a sports icon overnight. Known as a willing-and-able fighter and bruiser in the league, John Scott was a surprising and tongue-and-cheek nominee for the 2016 NHL All-Star Game. He’d been in the league for over eight NHL seasons, playing for teams such as the Wild, Blackhawks, Rangers, Sabres, and the Sharks. Scott’s best attribute as an NHL player was dropping his gloves—never the best player, he did become the most feared fighter in the NHL, racking up extensive penalty minutes. In order to prevent him from playing in the game, his current team—the Phoenix Coyotes—traded Scott to the Montreal Canadiens, who demoted him to the AHL team in an attempt to disqualify him from playing in the All-Star Game. Fans were outraged and Scott was devastated. He’d been downgraded in his job—forced to relocate while his wife was pregnant with twin girls. But the fans wouldn’t back down and insisted the NHL let Scott play in the game. What followed was an inspiring and unforgettable Cinderella story. Detailing his life growing up and with plenty of his signature humor, A Guy Like Me is a moving, witty, and remarkable memoir that you won’t be able to put down.

You will read of a touching story of saving a cats life by crude surgery when a hunter shoots it with an arrow. Times in my life when all abandoned me, including my family, because I was too much bother. I was left to rot in a VA hospital. I somehow summoned enough strength to run away and force people to care even when they didnt want to. Even on how I was led to sing the Star Spangled Banner over and over from inside an isolation room in a hospital, where I was drugged by three gorillas and given a shot in the ass because I wanted to talk to the doctor in person before I took any medicine. An instance when an orderly was attacked by a patient and I helped the orderly by jumping on the patients back. There are all sorts of supernatural things that happened, and only the love of Jesus kept me sane and not desire to seek revenge. How the Holy Spirit healed me and taught me to forgive all the wicked things that happened. How our system needs a serious overhaul and how doctors are given way too much power. I hope you read this book and it gives you a little compassion for people. Is it a big step from having a thought enter into your head and actually hearing the thought being spoken in your head? You are used to thoughts coming to you, but if it was out loud in your head, you would probably react a lot differently.

When I became the legal guardian of my five younger siblings, I had no idea what I was doing. One year later, I'm still lost. Coaching CU's hockey team might be the only thing I'm excelling at. But when our star forward is failing math, I have to do what it takes to keep him on the team. Even if it's going head-to-head with Jasper Eckstein. One minute I'm confronting the notorious hockey-hating professor, and the next I'm agreeing to be his date to his twenty-year high school reunion. I don't know how that happened. JASPER My rules are simple. I don't give extra credit. Ever. No matter how entitled jocks think they are, I refuse to give them special treatment. It's not because I hate them. It's not because a hockey player broke my nose in high school. It's fair. But when Westly Dalton bursts into my office like a hurricane, all my principles fly out the window. Suddenly I'm giving extra credit. And I have a date to my reunion. After one explosive night together, I want more, but his home life is a mess, and I don't want to get in the way. If all we can have is quick thrills, I'm okay with that. It's not like I could ever fall for a jock.
