George settled in Dedham, Massachusetts, where he married in 1642, Elizabeth Clarke, another English immigrant to the "colonies". To George and Eliza- beth were born eight children. Thus began the American line of the Barbers that would in 1823, five generations later, migrate by oxen-drawn wagon from Massachusetts to China Township (now the Town of Java) in the "wilds" of western New York.History of the Barbers of Java, New York describes the Barber five-generation line of descent from the immigrant generation to the generation that migrated to Java, New York.
