Book excerpt: A novel breaking boundaries between fiction and reality. Wisconsin could be going down a path towards disastrous outcomes. Only a few key adolescents see the insane direction. Citizens convince themselves to be mentally fit for the future and to do all they can do for a better tomorrow. Basement Bonfires occur everywhere in the State. Entire families up and leave for California in the middle of the night to escape forced evolution. Public education begins to replace all forms of private education. Suddenly, a revolution takes place, sealing off the State since citizens have only joined the Wisconsin National Guard. One choice is mandatory for each person to make, whether they are Social Citizens or capitalists. A capitalist ant farm is created with plexiglass around the Third Ward and named a "Living Museum." Submarines are manufactured once again in Manitowoc, but this time to patrol Lake Michigan. Capitalists begin to wonder why a private library exists in the Living Museum filled with books they never knew existed and operated by a red bearded man. Rumors of a nuclear-armed Wisconsin are spreading as the President of the United States makes it clear she has no interest in dealing with the problems of the Mid-West. Many people begin to wonder if surrounding States will invade Wisconsin or if Wisconsin will be conducting invasions into surrounding States. Interaction between States should not happen in this manner, but you will find out why there is no other choice than war. Time will tell how this novel ends. No matter the outcome, you will think about how you think. Who are any of us to deny progress?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Rochester experienced the explosive growth generated by the Erie Canal, what began as a pioneer neighborhood of cabins quickly became an impressive ward of mansions for the city's social hierarchy. Today's generation knows it as Corn Hill, but it is actually the old Third Ward, an extraordinary neighborhood that rivaled Charleston, Savannah, and Natchez in elegance and importance. Rochester's Corn Hill: The Historic Third Ward offers the first comprehensive pictorial history of this ruffled-shirt district from its humble beginnings, to its Victorian peak, through its eventual decline and subsequent rehabilitation into a landmark ward.

Book Synopsis Gentrification, Displacement, and Alternative Futures by : Erualdo González Romero
Download or read book Gentrification, Displacement, and Alternative Futures written by Erualdo González Romero and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-05-05 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gentrification is one of the most debilitating—and least understood—issues in American cities today. Scholars and community activists adjoin in Gentrification, Displacement, and Alternative Futures to engage directly and critically with the issue of gentrification and to address its impacts on marginalized, materially exploited, and displaced communities. Authors in this collection begin to unpack and explore the forces that underlie these significant changes in an area’s social character and spatial landscape. Central in their analyses is an emphasis on racial formations and class relations, as they each look to find the essence of the urban condition through processes of demographic change, economic restructuring, and gentrification. Their original findings locate gentrification within a carefully integrated theoretical and political framework and challenge readers to look critically at the present and future of gentrification studies. Gentrification, Displacement, and Alternative Futures is a vital read for scholars and researchers, as well as planners and organizers hoping to understand the contemporary changes happening in our urban areas.
